Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe only thing I would suggest is for a decent size wardrobe. Lacking in hanging space.
Fabulous old house with plenty of character. Great hosts. Breakfast extremely good. A very large bedroom with a massive bathroom.

AustriaNo, everything fine...
Costilost House is a rare find. I had the pleasure of staying there in August '25. The hosts are a delight and nothing is too much trouble. The house is off the "beaten track" and if the beach is not important for you then its location is perfect for Polzeath, Padstow and exploring the Cornish coast, notwithstanding Cornish roads! The house itself has elegant charm, and has beautiful touches in keeping with the period of the house. The rooms (my room) was spacious and comfortable, the bed especially so. The breakfast was excellent: full English or continental style. The house despite its age had strong WiFi and hot showers, my room had a bath! If you are looking for a peaceful retreat, a base from which you can explore Cornwall, then Costislost House might be your solution, far from the madding crowd!

United KingdomA hidden gem! Thank you Lorna & Andre. Such a tranquil setting just 15-20 mins from Padstow/Polzeath & beaches. My dog & I were given such a warm welcome, she even had a box of toys & treats in our room! Our room was huge, but cosy, very comfy super king size bed and enormous en-suite bathroom. Fabulous breakfast selection (the best pain au chocolat) and delicious cooked breakfast set me up for our days out! Nothing was too much trouble ..we’ll be back 😊

United KingdomNothing really could be improved with the stay.
Lorna, Andre and family were very welcoming and hospitable. Beautiful country house in a fantastic location in the countryside which is still convenient for Padstow, Polzeath, Harlyn, Bodmin, Constantine Bay etc. Large bedroom and very large en suite. Lovely Continental and cooked breakfast in breakfast room overlooking the lawn. The best English/Cornish cooked breakfast I have had in many years! Very dog-friendly as well - our spaniel loved his stay.

I can highly recommend staying at Costislost House. It is a very beautiful place with big, spacious and clean rooms and lovely communal areas including a games room and a huge garden with patio area. It is in a very peaceful location with nothing but fields around it so it is very quiet and calm, especially at night. Lorna was a brilliant host who made us feel very welcome. If you are bringing a dog with you it is very dog friendly. We stayed for 2 nights and wish we had stayed for longer! It is great for anyone wanting to visit Rock, Polzeath or Padstow but stay a bit further out from these places. Will definitely return if staying down in Cornwall again!

NetherlandsCostislost House lies at a perfect location to venture to the north and south coasts of Cornwall. The house and its immediate surroundings are spacious, have modern utilities whilst honouring the charm of the 16th and 18th century buildings. And our hosts Lorna and Andre were so welcoming to each guest. Absolutely super.

United KingdomFrom the moment we arrived, we felt genuinely welcomed and at home. Lorna and Andre were incredibly warm, attentive, and went above and beyond to make our stay perfect. The room was spotless, absolutely beautiful, and full of thoughtful touches. We slept so well and felt so rested and looked after. Breakfast was a great: fresh, delicious, and clearly made with love. Great way to start the day. Lorna also attended to our dietary needs with no warning from us beforehand. The location was peaceful yet conveniently close to everything we wanted (camel trail, woodlands, beach, restaurants etc). The house and grounds are also absolutely stunning - although it was raining in June (typical UK summer), this meant we got to sit in the window, play chess, and watch the bunnies and trees. We also loved having cuddles with the very well behaved furry residents! We can’t recommend Costislost House highly enough and will definitely be returning!

We were so lucky to find this BnB last minute, and from the moment we arrived, Lorna and Andre made us feel completely at home. They were incredibly welcoming and went above and beyond to accommodate us – nothing was too much trouble. The house has such a warm, homely feel, with beautifully spacious rooms and idyllic views that made it hard to leave. A truly lovely stay - could not recommend enough!

United KingdomNothing.
We cannot rate our stay highly enough. Lorna and Andre are exceptional hosts - nothing too much trouble and very welcoming into their home. Technically this is a B and B but it is way more than that. A beautiful country house with extensive grounds and huge welcoming comfy sitting and dining areas. It really felt as if we were staying in a top end boutique hotel in terms of our surroundings. Our rooms were huge, exceptionally comfy and with a small number of rooms only you are very much house guests rather than hotel clients. There are also so many touches that Lorna and Andrew have thought about to make this a 5 star location - for example provision of fridges and fresh milk and not a UHT carton in sight. While there are good local pubs for dinner (we did not need lunch as the breakfast was excellent and never-ending...) - eg the St Kew Inn, St Mabyn Inn or slightly further the RingoBells at St Issey (all dog friendly) Lorna and Andre have provided microwave and crockery etc. and encourage you if you wish to cook microwave meals - a real plus that we did not have to go out every night. And to top it all this must be the most dog friendly establishment we have visited with our dog - Lorna and Andre are dog lovers and have really thought about making dogs welcome - excellent welcome packs but also an understanding that dogs are part of the furniture. We booked our 6 night stay last minute and although a car is really needed Wadebridge/Padstow and excellent bus service was only a short drive away - perfect for our walking the next sections of the SW Coast Path. We will certainly be staying again. This was hospitality to a level that is rare to find these days - for those of old enough to remember a time before booking.com it was reminder of when establishments built reputations by their hospitality not ratings - but given everything is now rated, the scores given here are no exaggeration.
