How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Noisy till 10 at night, couldnt get TV to work, noisy doors and creaky floors but for the price .

Access to the rooms on a busy Saturday night was a bit awkward for someone travelling on their own. Music was loud but it was switched off at the time they promised it would be. I am not a fan of sharing bathrooms with other guests and realised this at the time of booking but that is my fault. The room was comfortable. There were tea & coffee making facilities but no spoons. The kettle cable didn't reach the plug socket so had to balance the kettle precariously on a stool to make a cuppa. Other than that, had a great night sleep!!!
Location was great. Bed was very comfortable.

Shank in the room + smell in the room+ nobody came to ask for services no hospitality the other bad thing is the rooms are on the first floor of this pub so the guests need to walk through all the people in the pub and last but not the least when my brother came down while he was leaving the guys their start taunting and abusing which was really very embarrasing for us. Not a good choice for asian or other race tourists, visitors . 3/10.

For the price, it's hard to complain. Decor is a little dated but didn't affect our stay.
Great location, free on-street parking, lovely staff at check-in. We used our room literally to sleep in as we were attending an event at the Witham nearby, and it met our needs.

The bar was closed when we returned at 10.30. There were some noisy people staying, but the management can not be blamed for that.
They do not do breakfast. It is a budget hotel, we got what we expected.

No mention of shared facilities wasn’t shown these when shown room Window didn’t stay open so room really hot even with rad turned off This is a contractor s hotel and should be advertised as 1 I was up on business and needed a receipt which could not be done on site I was promised a email 1 which I haven’t received

My bedroom although I had been up graded due to renovations at no extra price there were no bedside lamps, the window was wide open and I was unable to shut it. There was a kettle on the floor, teabags etc but no mugs/cups. Two very spacious chest of drawers but no facility to hang jackets etc.The bed was clean and comfortable.
I booked a room with NO meals so had my breakfast at a cafe across the road recommended by a staff member

checking out was a but awkward. I had to leave before the pub opened and it was not clear where to leave room keys since I had to use the rear exit. also the fire exit gate to the rear of the garden is not easy to open and would definitely fail a funeral inspection

Tiny shower, carpet in the shower/toilet not very hygenic. No toilet roll, had to get it from the toilet on the landing which was also carpeted.

Noise from some sort of motor running all night. Tea tray hadn't been replenished. The whole of the upstairs needs gutting, sound proofing and replacing but probably cost too much.
It was handy for a stop over and cheap for the area.

Sadly it needs a lot of work to bring it back to its former glory. Marstons should do more to halo the new tenants!!
The tenants were new to this pub and doing their best to update a rather tired establishment.
