Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesWhile I had personal reasons I could not stay the whole time planned and was a some level disappointed, at another level it was a good thing, as that time of year was extraordinarily expensive. If I were choosing to go another time I would try to time the trip at a time it is a bit less expensive - understanding it will never be inexpensive (and given the need and cost to keep up a historic building that's understandable).
EVERYTHING! This was definitely a luxury hotel experience. I very much appreciated the historic nature of the hotel and the efforts to preserve the best of it, while ensuring the current experience is luxury. The grounds were a pleasure to ramble around and explore. We were clearly there at the peak of perfection in June - flowers were incredible, and everything was lush and green. There were several wonderful places to explore inside (especially the areas with photos from earlier times), and places available for private events, as well as places to hang out, including the lobby, the guest lounge and many small seatings around the building). And many more places to explore across the property, too numerous to name. My "room" consisted of the bedroom, and a bathroom, both opening off a large entry area that also included a very large, built-in closet. And it had a TUB! While I normally love high floor views, in this case I was enchanted with a ground floor room where my view was of the water tower. The staff was fabulous. Breakfast was terrific and almost eliminated the need to eat lunch. In fact, all the food was excellent ( a good thing as there was little close by if you didn't have a car, though the non-hotel National Trust areas had a couple of snack bar options during the day). We were a group of friends celebrating post-wedding and Cliveden made it easy to do things together and apart. There was falconry, a boat trip, archery and other options that various guests were able to enjoy and always the staff was terrific! This was truly a bucket list experience.

Extensive historic country house, beautiful grounds, relaxed informal atmosphere with attentive helpful staff. Superb evening meal in Astor Grill and amazing breakfast in main house. Large bedroom, huge comfortable bed. Great bathroom with massive bath and shower. Expensive but very good value for cost.

United Arab EmiratesThere are major areas of the home that need attention. In the room, cobwebs removed and window sills, flooring, walls deep cleaned. Outdoor area could be cleaned up and the outdoor fence would not lock shut from neighbor’s room/ side. The hot tub covers desperately need replacing. An automatic topper mechanism would be ideal for guests. The spa/ pool area need refurbishing. Tiles missing, jets in hot tub/ plumbing upgraded. The spa and hotel both could do more to offer a gift shop of signature specialities to take home from hotel. Such as treats from the restaurant, apparel, historical books/ relics telling the story of the home. Spa treatments, equipment would benefit to offer more advanced wellness offerings and expertise. It would be nice to have an upgraded and stocked changing area and a separate sauna for men/ women. The ability to order a specialty food/ beverage menu at the spa pool would have been lovely. The ambiance of the restaurant and view is unfortunately distracted by the many tourists who walk right up to the window on the balcony.
Every member of staff was exceptional. The grounds were beautiful. Loved the special touches: snacks, handwritten welcome guest note left in room and guest name on door of room. The single best scallop of my life was had in the main dining room. It arrived on a dish of vanilla bean butter. The scallop was perfectly seared and the flavor combination was surprisingly delightful! The bartender made an excellent cocktail.

During our recent trip to Taplow, my daughter and I were delighted by the idyllic setting and the exceptional service at the grand hotel. Upon arrival, a courteous gentleman assisted us with our luggage. Our room was beautifully appointed and well-equipped, and we thoroughly enjoyed the delicious English breakfast. The staff were outstanding, particularly George in concierge. We plan to return.

United KingdomCliveden House is truly a remarkable place, the setting, the history, and the elegance of the property are all unforgettable. The staff were incredibly warm, attentive, and professional, making the experience feel genuinely luxurious. The service exceeded all expectations. My only small suggestion would be to offer a wider variety of food options, but what was available was delicious and beautifully presented.

Cliveden House is packed with history. The present house (it's the third on the site) is mid-19th century and there are portraits and prints everywhere, as well as a terrific book in each bedroom about the history of the house and the people who lived there. The view from the main dining room and the residents' sitting room is stunning, out over the parterre and the huge lawn. The bedrooms are very well equipped. A real bonus is the spa with an indoor and outdoor pool, steam room and two hot tubs. Everything is beautifully presented, the staff are so friendly and helpful and the food is excellent.

United KingdomAbsolutely wonderful stay. The staff were excellent as was the service. We were given a beautiful room and staff went the extra mile to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. The spa was great, high quality and relaxing. The afternoon tea, breakfast and dinner in the Astor grill were delicious. And the grounds are so enjoyable to walk around and we were made to feel very welcome by everyone we encountered. Thank you to all the staff for making our stay so special.

AustraliaStaff were hit and miss. Some were very welcoming and kind, while the odd person let the team down. One young staff member made out that the Astor Grill was very busy and urged us to book a time that did not suit us. Upon arrival the restaurant had very few patrons and my steak was terrible.
Cliveden House is a spectacular property and having the opportunity of staying at such a property is very special. It is a little rough around the edges and not as polished as some high end hotels, but perhaps all the better for it. The lobby, residents lounge, restaurant, staircase and grounds are all very grand. There is even a secret room behind a bookcase door for hotel guests to enjoy complimentary snacks, beer, wine, softdrinks. During the day, tourists arrive and can pay for a tour through the hotel which was mildly annoying when I was relaxing in the lobby. For our March stay that didn't bother me, though I wonder if more annoying in peak season? But don't hesitate. Come stay for a night or 2.

United KingdomAstor food was not great and had a strange collection of dishes on it (e.g. Bao buns and Tataki with fish and chips and burgers on the same menu). Service was good though. Some of the F&B prices are extortionate and sit above what would be expected for a non-London based 5* hotel. 35 pounds for a club sandwich, 7.5 for water and nearly 10 pounds for a bottle of beer is too much. The fee to the National Trust should also be absorbed by the hotel. Passing this on to guests doesn't sit well when spending c.1,500 pounds with the hotel over 2 days.
Lovely hotel and enjoyable stay. Nicely decorated bedrooms, beautiful building and grounds, the breakfast was great and the service was brilliant too (very accommodating and we were never told "no" - our waiter Minguel from breakfast particularly stood out as going above and beyond for us- highly professional and friendly). Spa facilities were also exceptional.

Everything - the setting, the service, that ambience. It was quite simply, perfect. I've had the privilege of staying in many nice hotels around the world over the years, including being upgraded to a suite as we were here but I think this may have been my favourite of them all!
