Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe pub next door was closed but nothing to dislike about the property
Ideal for what we needed for a 2 night stay for a wedding. Well kitted out in the kitchen, really good space throughout and great to have 2 en-suits as there were 2 couples staying. The owners were really accommodating so thank you for your help and the two dogs are lovely!

United KingdomCould do with a few things maintaining and spring clean. You need to take some extra tea towels and dishwasher tablets. An aerial connection to the TV would be handy - it does have a fire stick but took some working out!
Oak Cottage downstairs apartment - very good layout, especially the kitchen. Nice and cosy. Lovely host. Pub next door is good.

United KingdomThe entrance was through a gate and up some metal stairs, it was dark at night.
Lovely and clean, spacious. The kitchen was great- all the facilities that you'd need and more with the dishwasher and washing machine (we didn't use as only stayed for a short break but would definitely have used if staying longer). The pub next door served great food and everyone was very friendly- there was a good atmosphere.

United KingdomCould do with a deeper clean - hairs in bath, toilet and bedding, cobwebs around all the windows, dog hairs all over the sofa which transferred to our clothes, limescale/rust in toilet bowl of en-suite. No allocated parking for guests of the cottages and when the pub is busy it is difficult to find a suitable parking spot. The garden to the pub was at the front of the property and so the noise was relatively loud during the night too. Didn’t expect to have to use metal stairs to enter the property, not ideal when it was really rainy as it made it very slippery.
Spacious with enough amenities. Was cold on arrival but the heating was really good and came on quickly and warmed the entirety of the property. Generally tidy. Well priced for the size of the property.

United KingdomThe lounge lighting was a little dim for comfortable reading. The Wifi was too weak to use the Amazon fire stick (which uses the TV remote to operate it but we had to ask for the 'firestick remote' to find this out!). With no connection for an aerial we had no TV and only use of the dvd's available at the property. The pub has BT wifi with their small wifi extender discs so why doesn't the accomodation have one, if the 2 buildings are linked? There was no dishcloth in the kitchen to wipe surfaces with etc, kitchen roll or sufficient cups / mugs for 4 unless 1 person had a different drinking vessel to the other 3. The corner shower bar control valve was dangerous as the water flow from it was a choice of either too hot or scalding and therfore unuseable. The 'cartridge' must be at the end of it's safe useable life and the controls were both loose, but they are not the reason that the temperature of the water is too hot unless the cartridge has become incorrectly set because the control has been loose enough for the control to have been moved but it would have had to have been moved against it's splines. In the same bathroom the sink taps drip constantly wasting water. In the other bathroom the leak from the shower screen has to be fixed before the sodden flooring collapses and someone has an accident.
Breakfast was not supplied or implied. The accomodation was excellent but lacking 'necessary maintenance'. The location was 'off the beaten track' but was reasonably priced and was close to where we needed to be and the location is in an area of glorious countryside yet close to interesting places to visit. The meal that we had in the pub was exceptional and the pub was definitely the heart of the village.

United KingdomWe were in the upper half of the building, which was accessed by 13 stairs. This surprised me but maybe I had not read the information properly. It was not a problem to us and the stair case is very sturdy with a landing half way.
Very good location, well placed for visiting Monmouth and other towns and villages. Good walks from the property with excellent views on a clear day. Laminate flooring throughout, easy to keep clean when you have a dog as we do. Very quiet.

United KingdomPub could be a little noisy late at night as the cottages were very close to the smoking area outside. We also did not realise that there would be an extra charge of £25 for our dog when we booked pet friendly accommodation through booking.com, we thought that was in the total price when we booked the accommodation.
The cottage was clean cosy and well equipped. Good provision of plenty of towels and crockery and cutlery everything was available to ensure a comfortable stay. The cottage was lovely and warm with plenty of heating appliances. Landlady was very friendly and welcoming and the food in the pub was very tasty.
