Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

CanadaWe liked it all, can't think of anything we didn't like. Maybe the size of the shower in our room it was a wee bit tiny and it took a very long time to get hot water there. Not really a big deal, the hot water eventually reached us.
We stayed for just one night and wish we stayed longer, the grounds are beautiful and the mansion stunning. All the staff were helpful and very friendly. We had a lovely dinner at the mansion, and enjoyed a very nice breakfast with a wide variety of choices.

United KingdomThe (Executive) room was under the eaves, so quite stuffy on a warm summer's day. You couldn't open one window more than a couple of inches, and the other not at all. View from the bed on to a sloping roof wall. Not enough provisions for afternoon and early morning tea (tea bags and milk). Of course you can always ask for more, but in a hotel of this class you don't want to have to do that. We had to pay extra for a bathtub in the bathroom. No hooks in the bathroom for towels (where to hang your towels when taking a shower?). Warm water pressure in shower poor. When we arrived, there were no towels in the room and no extra loo roll. To be fair, staff were quick to provide, but this shouldn't happen when you are paying around £360 for a night's stay for two people.
Excellent location for our purposes (visiting a relative in Musselburgh en route to the Highlands). The house and the grounds are stunning - you relax immediately when you go for a walk in the park and woodlands - which after a long car drive is wonderful. Staff at reception were lovely. Room very nicely and comfortably furnished, spacious bathroom with enough shelf space (rare these days!) The food in the Bistro restaurant was good, but took a long time coming.

United KingdomRoom and furnishings a bit tired and paintwork could use some attention. Carpet clean and room refurb would not go amiss. Sink in bathroom was cracked.
Comfortable bed. Good breakfast. Lovely views of the surrounding countryside and gardens from our bedroom windows.

Switzerland- we had a short 1 night stay and dinner at the restaurant. Good ingredients, but result is a bit raw lacking to level with the surroundings. I believe it would apply for the breakfast too. Nevertheless, a very pleasing experience, we’d book again without reserve
- Splendid location, easy to see rabbits on the lawn, our daughter was so happy. - a beautiful estate full of history, - a quiet place, for a peaceful resting - loved relaxing on the first floor lounges - the royal suite and the bathroom

United KingdomUnfortunately there was no water when we arrived, not the fault of the hotel but was catered for with bottled water bought in. The room was stifling hot as it was the hottest day of the year, there was a fan supplied in the room but it didn't really help. Shower pressure was poor and felt like a dribble.
Lovely clean rooms, comfortable beds and amazing pillows. The whole place is very well kept for a 500+ year old building. Staff were absolutely fantastic and could not fault them with every interaction we had...5*

I came here five years ago with one group of friends and decided to bring another group this year. Everyone loved the hotel, it has so much charm and character, with different areas to sit and relax and a wonderful outdoor space. I also found the staff to be kind and professional. The restaurant food was also very good and my friends commented on the food as well.
