Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomWe were hoping to get a fry up for breakfast as we'd read out kick ass fry ups online but it wasn't available at this location. We had to go down the road and have one in a cafe which was super pricey for what we got!
The staff were really friendly and helpful! I left my keys at the hostel and they contacted me, so I'll be able to get them back. The location was perfect, the beds were comfortable (a huge mixed dorm room as promised) and the showers and toilets were clean and plentiful (although a few were out of order when I visited). They have a nice casual area to hang out. I'd visit again!

United StatesThe Bathrooms were small and compact, and some toilets were out of order. WIFI did not work, No one knew how to fix it - (their solution was you can use the wifi at our sister hotel down the street) Staff very young and have limited knowledge with problem solving skills - seems to me. No chair in the dorm to sit on while getting dressed if you on a top bunk (even though i request a bottom) unless u sit, on someone elses bed, You have to sit on the floor to put your shoes and socks on.
Location was Awesome! - Near everything I wanted to be!

United KingdomShower facilities were disappointing. Female only showers/toilets were small and had no space to change and shower in private unless you did so in the shower cubicle. They were also messy and verging on unclean at night and early in the mornings.
Excellent location. Room was super clean and comfortable for my stay with plenty of space.

South AfricaCurtains on the beds would be a great addition to the dorm rooms, but otherwise can't complain.
Great location. Very central. Can easily walk to Arthur's Seat and the Royal Mile. Lockers in the room (own lock) and very convenient (and free) lockers at the check-in area that you can use all day even after check-out. Live band was playing most nights downstairs which is great. All in all a wonderful, safe, convenient stay. Perfect for solo female travellers. Ended up staying three nights.

United StatesThis was the first hostel for my week-long stay in Scotland, and these beds set me up for a pretty painful rest of my trip. For paying more than $100/night for a dorm, having every spring in the mattress poking at you all night is just not okay. The showers were not great -- I had to hold the button down the entire time, and the water was freezing cold. And there was quite a bit of mildew in the shower, too.
Pretty standard hostel. Nice location, albeit a little chaotic and loud. Staff was nice.

CanadaIt is noisy if your other dorm roommates have to leave in the night or are going out... But it is the hostel life. Also the cost of laundry was very expensive, and it was expensive also to sleep in a dorm, but it was Fringe so.
The location is great, there is a laundry service, the bathroom was clean, personal was kind!

United KingdomThe doors need greasing as do the windows (for opening and closing late at night / early in the morning and not waking the entire room), and the bathrooms whilst not terrible, could do with more dedicated cleaning particularly the showers and floors.
Fab location.

AustraliaLocated a 5min walk from Edinburgh Castle and the alley that inspired JK Rowling's Diagon Alley, it is perfect for those who want to be in the city centre. The bathroom was cleaned 2-4 times daily, making it pristine. There is a bar downstairs (with a beer garden) that offers great food and drinks.

IrelandThe breakfast could have had more options, I thought there were just few things to choose. They could also invest in better hairdryers hahaha. But what I really think was bad was the Wi-Fi connection, which I couldn't access. And it was unpleasant because my mobile Internet didn't work well in Scotland, but other things were fine.
I really liked the location. The staff was very friendly. I really liked being able to leave my things in the lockers before checking in. I liked the idea of the bar and really enjoyed the shows. I found everything well signposted, I was able to find my room easily. The showers were also great.

United KingdomThe top bunk ladder was painful on feet.. sharp metal frame. A table would have been useful for loading and unloading bags. Also a waste bin. When curtains closed, too dark.. gentle ambient light would have been useful, eg. Led at skirting. Breakfast could have been better - bacon + eggs please. Kick out time too early.. 11.30 better.
Location, staff, facilities, beer garden.

United KingdomIf you want to reach the City center / Castle within a 10-15 min walk, this hostel is an excellent choice. Had spacious storage (can fit a cabin luggage + laptop bag) within the rooms and storage units for when after checking out or before checking in.
