Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomNothing.
Enjoyed an excellent stay at this delightful hostel which is very comfortable, great value and nicely quirky. The period property and generous shared facilities have touches of a Gentlemen's club with some lovely aspects such as free access to a record player and the host's (superb) record collection. There is also a welcome absence of the various 'rules' that afflict many hostels today re booze, noise etc. We had a fantastic twin room with en suite bathroom at the top of the house. Tom is a great host - interested and interesting - and makes you feel very much at home in his, well, home. I hope to see him again soon in this great place, which has more in common with the best international hostels I have stayed in over recent years.

United KingdomThe mattresses were very firm and a little uncomfortable. The shower wasn’t great but likely due to water pressure with being in the attic space.
The room was cosy and just what we needed. The furniture was modern and the room was spacious. We loved having an en-suite.

The breakfast was amazing. I left very early and when I opened the door to my accommodation there was a box, full to the brim on the steps 😊❤️

United KingdomWe are frequent visitors to Moffat and have stayed in a variety of accommodation including Air BnB cottages and hotels. This is unlike any stereotype of a hostel. More like a grand old house. Fantastic welcoming staff and the best value for money we have experienced in the town. We stayed in the large twin room with en suite with the most amazing dark sky views of the stars 🤩.

United KingdomVery helpful, friendly team. We had a private 4 bunk "Superior Quad". Spacious room with big bay window and sofa. views to trees and hills. Beautifully quiet and comfortable. There was a TV though we didn't use it. Our own ensuite with bath and shower. Kitchen facilities were good - we cooked dinner and breakfast. Pool table was fun in the lounge. Lots of seating indoors and outdoors for eating. Well located near trails, not far from town centre shops and pubs.

We chose Moffat as our stop off on our way to Edinburgh. Our expectations were blown out of the water ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Our king size double room was exquisite in every way. Our room was beautiful ❤️ Every little detail was thought of which made our stay superb. I can confidently say this hostel rivals many of the 4 star hotels we have stayed at. We also recommend popping into town and ordering the traditional Scottish breakfast at Cafe Ariete.

Fabulous beautiful high quality classy, can't rave about this place enough! Stunningly beautiful grounds and building throughout. Super clean and comfortable all. Very friendly, welcoming and helpful host Tom. Bed, linen and ensuite all wonderful. Lovely views. Easy parking Furnishings are like that of a high class hotel. Unbelievably great value. Kitchen for cooking your own meals fully equipped. With fridges and freezers. I actually found this more liberating as it meant that I can have breakfast as early as I liked and good for midnight snacks. Also cheap way of doing meals, although the local Chinese takeaway came highly recommended. Check out 10,30 am, so could enjoy relaxing in beautiful surroundings in sunshine. Has outside seating in front garden, by house. Shared spaces of billiards/ pool room/ lounge with piano and also music/ dining room with record player and selection of records. Very civilised for evening relaxation. Gentle noise of stream opposite house. Stayed in July without any midges. It has bike storage and drying areas for sporty folks. Most amazing gem of a place. 15 minutes walk along stream to town. There's a Co-op tucked away. There are two fuel stations. There is a very budget friendly shopping mill Moffat Mill. The town of Moffat is very beautiful. Tom rang me with helpful advice on finding the hostel and buying supplies. He helped me in the kitchen with the electric hobs. Super friendly guy, without being nosey. Just helped and left you to enjoy:0)
