Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Very impressive building, well converted into a modern hotel. Friendly and helpful staff. Great location and lots of open spaces around the estate.

United KingdomI had indicated a bedroom on the ground floor would be appreciated via Booking.com as my husband has difficulty with steps but was advised that rooms for disabled people had been taken. He did manage the many steps within the hotel. A handrail would be very helpful near the steps leading to the seats/outdoor table area. A pot of tea or coffee is always preferable to a range of tea bags, sachets etc.... fine for within the bedroom, but not the restaurant (breakfast).
Our room was clean and comfortable. All staff were polite, friendly and helpful. We particularly enjoyed our pre-booked evening meal with our party ordering chicken, steak and duck respectively. We enjoyed Eton Mess afterwards. We pre-booked breakfast at £10 per person, otherwise it would have been £11.99. There was a good choice of cereal, fruit, yogurt, croissants and a hot breakfast - self service.

United KingdomNo lift! No staff in the bar serving drinks after dinner - presumably all busy at the large wedding in the ballroom?
Impressive building with a lot of character, surrounded by lovely woodland walks. Spacious room, bed very comfortable, modern bathroom with efficient walk-in shower. Evening meal and breakfast were excellent.

United KingdomOur room was fairly basic, not helped by the very small shower being extremely difficult to control water temperature wise. It either ran stone cold or very hot. The television aerial feed had been disconnected although this was fixed for the second day of our stay. One of the bedside lights had also been disconnected (unplugged from the wall socket). Also the room overlooked a very rough and untidy yard used as a store for recyclables. To be fair, this wasn't our intended room as we opted to be moved on account of a potentially noisy party taking place near to the original room; the room in which we were relocated was quiet and peaceful.
Wonderful building, super location, comfortable. Staff friendly and helpful. Especially enjoyed the terrace for summer relaxation. Excellent food, reasonably priced.

United KingdomCant say we didn't like anything but if you wanted to be critical at all you could say the decor is now looking a bit dated and tired and could do with a lick of paint etc. It's an old building so gets away with that more than a newer hotel would. The gardens don't seem as well kept as they used to be and could easily be tided up with no major effort.
Been staying here on and off for over 30 years. The Hotel is an old building with plenty of character. The restaurant was very quiet when we went in 8.00pm (Friday night), The food was really nice and good value we couldn't fault it at all. The buffet breakfast was also very good and excellent value. The room (King James) was large with comfy 4 poster bed and a small old balcony. Very quiet on a night time and through the day, all we could hear with the windows open was the wind blowing the trees.

United KingdomThis is an old building but does require attention and is quite frankly shabby, which is a shame as it could be magnificent. I stay here as it's close to visiting family. But as a single traveller it's over priced and doesn't offer value for money.
Breakfast and evening meal were delicious and good value, and the staff are lovely
