Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

RussiaNo wi-fi. Smell of drains outside of the property. We had power outage after the storm continuing for almost 24 hours, and nobody from the staff contacted us to check if we needed something.
Peaceful and quiet place, the Silver Birch cottage is well equipped by most necessary kitchen appliances. We had warm water running from the tab even during power outage.

United KingdomInstantly, as we arrived, we noticed that the tv was purely perfunctory. There was no internet for Netflix and some such, but the regular programming and cable didn’t work either. That was not the worst issue we encountered during our stay. As we arrived one day at approximately 7 in the evening, we discovered that a hurricane cut off our power completely. We couldn’t call anyone, there was no internet connection. I reached the main road and managed to try to call the staff. Nobody answered on the phone. The office was empty. Nobody messaged us at all. Some locals helped us find the relevant reports by the electricity services, and one of the houses we rented still had some hot water in it, which was good. But without assistance, we could not turn our hot water on at all, and we didn’t have anyone to explain the situation and if there could be anything done with the house.
The property was great. It was not very clean in terms of mould and cobwebs, but there were plenty of amenities, such as board games and dishes to make up for that.

United KingdomThe induction hob was not great , probably it has done its life or might be some technical issue, it use to go full power for 10-20 sec and then cut off after that , either you wait for 10 sec approx for it to auto trigger or restart that particular hob again. Cooking an egg etc was an issue and it took lot of time and still undone. This was the only feature which was slightly disappointing other than that there was no wifi, ( i did not expected there to have wifi on a mountain top) , we all had our phones powered with unlimited internet so wifi was not an issue.
Location was great, a cottage on top of a mountain with a private road, you cannot complain. Spacious property for at least 6 people. Good size kitchen and a separate utility room.

United KingdomUnfortunately the view out back was dreadful! Felt like we were sleeping in a construction yard. Extremely disappointed. Property was clean on the surface but not professionally done. Windows are filthy, skirtings not cleaned and spiderwebs on the lamps. The water pressure definitely needs looked at and general maintenance needs to be addressed (floor bows as you walk on it, shower needs fix - only usable if you are 4ft tall, kitchen needs TLC and garden needs sorted). Whilst there was no WiFi advertised, we were still disappointed to find no WiFi on site! There is a TV but it’s for show as you can’t connect to Netflix, etc. with no WiFi
Great location, although over 6 miles away from Loch Ness so to call it BCC Loch Ness is a bit of a stretch. That said the view out front is amazing. The bed is amazing! Firm and comfortable. The property is spacious for a family of 4 and ample parking.

United KingdomNo inside table or breakfast bar. One bed was very uncomfortable. Scanty signage helping us to find the cottage. Quite far from the town. Found a laundry there but nowhere to hang damp washing on return. We were there for 3 days after travelling for a week.
Views were amazing. Very roomy property. Comfy seating area and kitchen facilities. Excellent for one overnight stay.

United KingdomThe cottage needs some TLC. For example there is a large crack around the bath tub and the mattress on the main bed was very worn.
The cottage was very nice. It was warm and the dinning room furniture was nice. The kitchen was a good size and had everything we needed.

United KingdomThe kitchen wasn't well equipped and the frying pan was very burnt. The dining table felt a bit tacky to touch. There was no fenced enclosure around the property so we couldn't let the dogs out. The drive up to the cottage was really steep and dark so walking the dogs last thing at night was a bit tricky.
It was a good location for what we wanted to do in the area - There is a Bronze age grave and RSPB reserve just down the road which was fab. The cottage was roomy and nicely furnished. It was warm and cosey and the heating was set to come on which was nice and welcoming after a long day out. The bed was warm and comfortable and spacious. We were allowed to bring our dogs. The cottage was very clean except for the table. The shower was good and hot.

BulgariaCleanliness - bed linen didn't feel clean, there were other people's hair on the pillows Facilities - cutlery was not very clean, the pans were oily. Although this was supposed to be a self-catering cottage, there was not a pinch of salt, pepper, or oil in the house. There was a washing machine but no washing powder.
The house is big and spacious, hard-wood floor and the nature around it is great. There is a fridge and hot-water kettle as well as a Tassimo coffee machine.

United KingdomIt was not clean at all. Dirty floors, fridge smelled and was dirty, dirty pillows in the wardrobe, someone else’s clothes still in the chest of drawers, thick dust along the skirting boards, dirty kitchen cupboards inside and a cupboard with a child’s travel cot in it that is thick with mould up the walls and a health hazard.
The location was lovely and the quietness.
