Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

FranceThe beds weren’t really comfy in the small room we had but it was ok anyway and we slept well. The staff was serious and hard working but not really friendly. The job was nicely done anyway so it's a minor complaint.
Really nice location, one minute from small shops and restaurants and two minutes walk from Paddington trains and tube. Everything ran smoothly.

United KingdomBreakfast was really early (6.30 till 8.30) and if your weren't done by 8.30 the staff began looming large around you and clattering dishes. The breakfast room was tiny and so not big enough to sit everybody. It got very cosy and very hot. The breakfast itself didn't vary and had little choice to start with. There was lots of stairs. We rebelled by day 3 and had breakfast at one of the cafes on the Serpentine which was lovely, BUT we'd paid in advance for bed and breakfast so the next morning we sadly went back to the hotel's breakfast.
Great location - minutes from Paddington station and many bars and restaurants; some old and traditional ones too. Hyde Park and the Serpentine with its cafes and pedaloes was just across the road. We were in a room at the back of the hotel so it was fairly quiet at night. Our room was cleaned, I think, but the tea and coffee wasn't refreshed at all during our 4 night stay. The shower worked and got hot but the actual ensuite room was so small, it was uncomfortable.

United StatesHOT! Hot weather means hot rooms. Noisy and inadequate fans and limited airflow. Need to update fans or add some that could move cool night air into through the windows. Didn't sleep well.
Great location to Paddington station and local restaurants. Our room faced a courtyard and not a street so was quiet. Friendly staff. Clean rooms. Breakfast included

United KingdomThe only thing that was a concern was the key opened the front door and our room. Which I guess every other guest that stayed there had the same key. We did not leave valuables in the room based on this. Everything was fine. Cleaners kept room clean during our stay. Thank you.
Breakfast was good and staff were friendly.

United KingdomOur shower door was broken which made it quite hard to shower without splashing water out everywhere, this wasn't ideal! It was also very warm and they provided a tower fan which worked well but there wasn't a lot of air flow possible in the room even with the window open.
Great location, good walking distance to Hyde Park and stations, and easy check in and out. The tea and coffee facilities in the room were great and the little biscuits were a nice touch!

United KingdomLots of things could be improved: No plug sockets near the bed. The plug socket by the kettle didn’t work. The kettle didn’t fit under the tap - providing a bottle of tap water would have been helpful. No desk to sit/work/eat at. You had to cross the road to get to the rooms which meant I didn’t bother going back across the road for the included breakfast which stopped serving at the weirdly early time of 8:30. The shower head wouldn’t stay up and water pressure was terrible.
Well located. Reception staff seemed pleasant.

United KingdomIt was kind of what I expected... The disappointment, was if you wanted breakfast, which was included in my rate, one would have to get up and leave a whole building (top floor and 4 flights of stairs down) and walk 3 minutes across the road... to the main building. So if you're someone who prefers to eat brekkie before showering, as opposed to being "ready".... it's a real pain in the A*%!
This is a good economical town house style hotel, typical of London and the area itself. It's V close to station and surrounding bars and restaurants and is close to a gardened area so it feels much more suburban than city, which is nice. It's an old style hotel so remember it's not the ritz... But honestly, it does the job nice. Just be prepared to walk up lots of stairs AND... in my case, walking across the road to the next building where my room was located.

GermanyReception and dining room in the other Balmoral Hotel across the road - might merit mentioning this fact in the hotel info on the internet so guests arriving know where to check in straight away and don't have to trundle along the street twice with all their heavy luggage
Friendly & helpful staff, clean rooms and smoke detectors in good working order - I'd rather have the alarm raised at 5 in the morning than burning to toast in my bed :-)
