Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

The whole experience at Safestay Micklegate House was fantastic. Very clean, beautifully designed communal areas, and incredibly friendly reception staff. My room was in the wine cellar with exposed brickwork and stone floors – stunning atmosphere! The private bathroom was spotless and nicely renovated. Beds were comfortable with feather down duvets, and each bunk had its own lamp and USB port which I loved. Breakfast was simple but great – fresh croissants every morning were a highlight. Food is also available 24/7 from the bar, and the cheese pizza I tried was really tasty. The dining hall with its long tables and benches had such a unique, old-world charm, while still being cosy and social. A truly gorgeous place – I’ll definitely be coming back.

UkraineThe guy on the top floor of the bank bed was dancing or whatever. The toilet and shower are at one room so when someone is using any of that no one else could use the other. The smell of the bedding and the room is not pleasant. There were no sockets near the bed so I wasn’t able to even charge the phone. The tag from the girl’s next bed card was on my bed.
Good location, nice building, helpful staff.

United KingdomI'd recommend ear plugs as some of the other guests can be quite loud, although this is by no fault of the venue.
The bed was surprisingly comfortable, the cafe was pleasant to sit and relax, plus good prices too. The staff were really friendly and there was a good range of food on offer (although I didn't try any myself)

United KingdomBooked a 8 bed dorm with shared bathroom as advertised on booking.com but was given a 12 bed dorm with ensuite. According to Booking.com the 8 bed cost more than the 12 bed so it was annoying to have paid extra. Still good for a Saturday night. Not enough toilets/showers.
Good priced Hostel and close to the train station. Only stayed here due to train delays and missed connections meaning I had to stay in York. Luckily they had availability on a Saturday night. Nice historic building. Continental breakfast was good

MalaysiaSome travelers were drinking and chatting outside on the street, and since the hotel isn’t very soundproof, I could hear them clearly from my room. It was a bit noisy at night.
I had a good experience staying at this hotel. I stayed in a room with 8 bunk beds and was given the top bunk. The room was very clean, and the person I shared it with was quiet and respectful. There was a small bathroom inside the room, but I didn’t notice it at first because it was hidden. The hotel is in a great location—only about 5 to 10 minutes’ walk to most of York’s main attractions. There are also shops along the way, which makes it convenient. Overall, it’s a nice and comfortable place to stay, especially if you’re traveling on a budget.

JapanI had to pay £3 just to drop off my luggage two hours before check-in, which felt a bit unreasonable. I’d understand being charged for storing luggage after check-out, but charging before check-in doesn't really align with the backpacker-friendly spirit you'd expect from a hostel. Breakfast costs £8 and includes croissants, pain au chocolat, a few types of cereal, milk, juice, tea, coffee, cheese, and ham. I had a deal through my booking and got it for £2, which felt fair — but at full price, I don't think it's really worth it. The mattress in my bunk was quite uncomfortable — worn down in the middle from years of use, and it sagged noticeably. The bed also shook a lot whenever someone moved or coughed, which made it hard to sleep. Each room has its own private bathroom, which is nice in theory, but mine was tiny and had an unpleasant smell. Overall, the place is okay for a single night if you're on a tight budget, but I wouldn’t choose to stay longer than that.
The hostel is quite big and there are many spots to sit and work. The staff was nice and overall it was clean. The wifi was good too. Each beds comes with curtains and outlets.

United KingdomThe shower room is a little on the small side so i had to bring in a plastic bag to stop my clothes / possessions from getting wet whilst showering but that was an easy fix.
The staff were friendly and helpful and seemed to remember each guest. The room was basic but that was all I needed and the cages under the beds for securing personal possessions were of ample size.

United Kingdom3 pounds for luggage storage but it was just a room with shelves. No place to put my glasses. Bathroom was not clean and sink was only tiny. The most unbearable thing was the smell in the room, it was choking and as if no ventilation at all. I had to put some toothpaste under my nose.
Staff was nice. Location was great. Quiet at night.

NetherlandsI stayed in a 10 person dorm and found the shower and toilet situation a bit limited. 1 toilet and 1 shower and one sink for the room. I did sleep in room 1 and there was some kind of ventilation which was noisy, so make sure to bring earplugs
Nice hostel with good and central location, staff was really nice and the privacy curtains were also a good addition. The dining room was also a nice place to chill, same for the little outside area.

United KingdomThe only downside is there is no electrical outlet for the top bunk. Roommates can be quite noisy in the early morning, but that how the dormitory is.
Nima, the staff, is really friendly and attentive. You can leave your luggage here for just 3£/day. Great location, close to the station. The room is clean. There’s a cage that you can put your belongings in and lock for safety.
