How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewBeautiful property by service levels not at par with expected 5 star hotel, especially given price point
As a guest at a 5-star hotel charging nearly €3,000 per night, I expected exceptional service and value. Unfortunately, several aspects fell short. The hotel offers a shuttle service, but we were never informed about it. When arranging transportation, we found the hotel’s partnered car service charged a 100% premium compared to local alternatives. At checkout, the concierge questioned our claim of having paid the drivers, requiring verbal confirmation from them, which felt dismissive and untrusting—an experience I’ve never encountered at other 5-star properties. Additionally, a canceled car booking incurred a fee of 125% of the original fare, equating to 300% of what other providers would charge. For a hotel of this caliber, such minor charges seem petty and inconsistent with the luxury price point. Similarly, the booking process was rigid, requiring full prepayment well in advance, with no flexibility for credit card holds—a first in my extensive experience with 5-star hotels (600–700 stays). While the hotel has potential, these practices detract from the expected luxury experience.
Dear Dario, Thank you for your article and for your stay at Villa Marie. You stayed with us from July 13th to 16th in a Prestige room at €2,739 per night for 2 people, including breakfast. Villa Marie offers a non-stop shuttle service every day, from 8 a.m. until midnight, or even 1 a.m. during high season, free of charge. Our three electric vehicles: a Mercedes van, a Mini Countryman, and a vintage Méhari, identifiable by their Villa Marie signs and their unmistakable presence in front of the hotel, transport all our guests upon request to the center of St. Tropez, to a specific point, very close to Place des Lices. A return trip to the hotel is, of course, guaranteed under the same conditions. For all other destinations, especially beaches, we recommend a passenger transport company known as Grande Remise, equipped exclusively with premium vehicles driven by bilingual drivers. The level of service, while fully in keeping with the concept of luxury, is indeed not at the same price as other providers. A trip to the port costs €40, compared to €30 with a provider on a well-known app, or 33% more. A trip to the beaches costs €50, compared to €35 with the same provider on a well-known app, or 43% more. You requested a driver's service on July 14th at 1:17 AM, through our services. At 1:19 AM, the driver contacted you to find out your exact location: 7 Av des C.... in Ramatuelle. Knowing your location, he confirmed to you at 1:20 a.m. that it would take 20 minutes to arrive, as traffic was heavy on the eve of the national holiday following the fireworks. In response to this information, you asked him to contact you by text as soon as he arrived at the location. At 1:43 a.m., 23 minutes later, he informed you of his presence, which he reiterated at 11:53 a.m., specifying that he was finally leaving. However, in the absence of a response and out of professional conscience, he still decided to wait for you until 2:03 a.m., for a total of 20 minutes. The driver waited 20 minutes, billed €20 in addition to the €50 service charge that he hadn't provided, for a total of €70. (The service charge is normally €120/hour). Allow me to be factual: While the driver was waiting for you, you simultaneously preferred to use a service provider from a well-known app, without even informing us and canceling your order. Your experience with transportation gives us food for thought. We are now seriously considering developing a system, via mobile phones, which, in the future, will require systematic validation of services ordered by our customers. Room was loud, you can hear other people showering, flushing toilet. Overall stay was good but far from luxurious. This is our second time at the resort and first time we stayed it was better. This time upon departure we had to pay city tax which was nowhere mentioned upon booking etc.

Everything 'is the decision of the owner', but staff don't really listen and react to complains and concerns. When we complained about a hole in the middle of the bed, the reaction was 'they are new', when we told them we left early because of that and the fact that there are too many wasps there to be able to enjoy, the lady at the front desk replied that we had to pay it all. Not even a discussion on my side, if I leave because I dont like it, ofc I will pay it all. But that this was her first reaction was painful from our guest perspective.

Verified reviewThe Hotel was amazing, very peaceful. I loved that our room was on the ground floor. Near to the pool and the gym. I loved the turn down service. They would replace everything such as towels, tea, coffee, empty the bins. I loved the terrace I had in my room overlooking the sea. I also enjoyed the limited equipment of the gym, it kept me fit. The team were very helpful. The team would come during the breakfast and ask every client about their stay and needs.
The towels and the bathrobes were worn out. They need replacement. The city tax was the same price as the my entire stay - very expensive. Unfortunately, i could hear any movement in the rooms near me and above me.
