How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewStaff were great and location is excellent. Breakfast was amazing too and definitely worth the extra charge. The late check in (11pm) was really appreciated and the hotel can store your luggage during the day too.
The only thing worth or note is that the rooms are exceptionally small. We had a full size suitcase with us which literally took up all the free space in the room.

We stayed three nights at Hotel R. Kipling in Paris and had a consistently frustrating experience, starting from the very first moment. Poor cleanliness, faulty plumbing, missing basic amenities, lack of staff responsiveness, and excuses rather than solutions. If you're expecting a reliable, comfortable four-star hotel, I recommend reading the full details below before booking. --- Full Review: We arrived with high expectations and were let down immediately. The bathroom sink was leaking from the pipe underneath—not a small drip, but actual water flowing when used. The hotel later claimed a technician “found nothing wrong,” but the issue was clear and visible to us as guests. Denying this rather than acknowledging it was unacceptable. The sink was also absurdly small—the kind you'd expect in a camper van—despite the bathroom having enough space for a larger, more functional one. Cleanliness was subpar: we found a forgotten earring on the nightstand. Basic toiletries were empty upon arrival. We reported it to reception, and they promised to send up replacements “shortly.” After waiting 40 minutes, we called again. They eventually brought conditioner and body lotion, not shampoo or shower gel. I discovered this too late, already in the shower. We tried to call reception five times—no answer. My partner went down and found no one at the front desk, even though guests were waiting to check in. It took another 30 minutes for someone to show up and deliver the correct toiletries. The excuse? “Busy with other guests”—but there were no staff present when we checked ourselves. The shower was another disaster: low water pressure and a leaky handheld head, making it especially hard to wash long hair. Meanwhile, signs in the room encourage guests to save water and skip cleaning services... while the broken shower wastes water anyway. A contradiction. There is no minibar/fridge in the room. The hotel says

You never came to talk with us at the reception, I tried to call you but never got an answer ! I have responded to your complaint through message on Booking that the problems occured in the bathroom; the sink and the showerhead which was lose were verified and fixed by our technician. Regarding the forgotten earring in the room, it was an oversight. We are very sorry for that. Concerning the shampoo and shower gel, our colleague misunderstood and brought you the wrong products and he had other clients and to put away the delivery for the breakfast which is in the basement so the phone won't work there. You complained on the 1st of August after 11pm through message on Booking and sent again a message the next day an hour before my reply. The next day, on the 2nd of August, I proposed you a discount because I understood that the comfort of the room did not meet your expectations and we are sorry. I waited for your return and the confirmation till the next day, as there was no reponse, I made the discount as promised in the message on your credit card around 12h. Then you never replied to my message on Booking. I waited to talk with you but never got any answers from your side since the discount was made. Regarding the minibar in the room, our rooms are quite small as many hotels in Paris not all of course. Unfortunately, ours are small and we can't fit a lot of furniture, as there will be no space to put your things and the suitcases. We have to take everything into consideration in order to give the best possible to our guests. Also, we can store your things in our kitchen's fridge ad freezer if needed. Our hotel's four stars rating depends on various criteria and engagements we have made. The problems you mentionned have been resolved and not unresolved as you said ! The discount was made 2 days after your complaint and not before answering to your message or we are trying to cover the issue ! The exchanges are still on booking if you need proofs. Despite this complaint, you stayed at our hotel for four nights straight and never came to see us ! This rating is really exaggerated. This is really sad ! Best regards, Abivarna

We had a room with a balcony, the balcony was nice enough for morning coffee and evening wine but needed a bit of a tidy up (bird poo, faded furniture, some trash in the gutters). A few pot plants and fairy lights and it would be magical. Air conditioner was working and appreciated. Lovely clean shower room.
As expected a tiny room, but so small you couldn’t walk past the end of the bed so had to go over the bed to get to the other side of the room. Also to access the balcony you had to climb out the window which some people might find challenging. One of our coffee mugs was broken and looked glued together. It reappeared each day so not sure it was taken away to be cleaned? The shower gel was very watery so had to wash with the hand wash instead.

I don’t believe this hotel meets the standard of a four-star rating. There were no facilities, no hotel bar, and a general lack of amenities, which made it difficult to understand how it has been awarded four stars. I was visiting Paris for a long weekend with friends and intended to use the hotel primarily for sleeping, but I still had higher expectations based on its rating. Unfortunately, the experience did not meet those expectations. In particular, one of the night concierges was not especially friendly. When I requested an iron, I was told all three were in other guests' rooms, but no effort was made to assist me in retrieving one or offering an alternative. The tone of the conversation became uncomfortable, and I chose not to pursue the matter further.
