Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

FranceVery old and run down. Notices need changing on door - very confusing as they give opening hours for Reception but don’t explain that you’ve got to go to the Campanile to check in! Very hard to find my room upstairs at the back and I got locked out at 22h because the key card didn’t work! Luckily the girl from the company that came to my rescue as it was two floors up and I had all my luggage up with me.
Comfortable bed and nice breakfast at the Campanile.

New Zealandannoying that the previous person left a smell of smoke and ash on the floor by the bed. hard to clear the smell out. but maybe mop the floor. Not everyone obeys the no smoking rule.
we have stayed in a few premiere class hotels. they are cheap, warm, convenient which we appreciate. Definitely budget no frills and that's what we paid for. nice clean sheets and clean bathroom. Restaurant nearby. Get the access key from there. in winter there are no staff

SwitzerlandThere is no one to meet you or to see you go. You have to go to the sister hotel for that were the staff were pleasant. The hotel itself was terrible. The rooms were dingy. There were stains on the bed sheets. We asked for 2 rooms together as we are a family of 4 and they put us on 2 different floors at opposing ends. The people next door woke us up about 4 am and we couldn't get back to sleep because of the noise and no one to report it to. In addition the hotel car park is used by young people to drink and do drugs(whippets)which is intimidating when you arrive at night and the hotel isn't manned and in the middle of nowhere. Yes it is cheap but it is seriously worth spending a bit more to stay somewhere better. We only needed to stay there as a lay over but it was worse than sleeping in the car
Nothing really to like

SpainThe room stank of a mix of tobacco, cheap perfume and cleaning products. Really intense unpleasant stink. The Aircon unit is located inside the room itself, makes a huge amount of noise (I am not exaggerating) and the air coming out of it badly stinks of tobacco and only god knows what else. Super cold aircon but cannot be regulated at all.
Nice location, nice people and cheap (but even cheap places should meet some minimum standards)

NetherlandsAlthough the website said "24 hour reception" we arrived to find the entry gate closed. An intense search eventually turned up a manager who, despite only having 2 couples arriving as it turned out, could not find my reservation, even though my name was clearly visible on his piece of paper. After some discussion we were allowed entry to the parking area and given a room key. Our first entry to the room was, let's say, not the best. A LOT of water on the floor ("because of the AC leaking the man said) and a bathroom that was not clean and probably never will be clean. Going back to the car to get the rest of our luggage only to find out that the key to the room no longer functioned. Again we went looking for the guy, who was nowhere to be found. The phonenumber of the hotel got you into an infinite loop of the answering machine and calling booking.com for assistance ended after about 25 minutes with the phrase "sorry, we are unable to reach anybody at the hotel". At the other side of the parking area at the back of another structure there was a faded note of a 24hour alarm number. Called it, and about 15 minutes later the guy comes out, tries to prove we don't know how to open a door with the hotelkey, only to find out the cardreader in the lock is broken and his actual masterkey is the only way to open the door, only to find even more water on the floor. From first arriving at the gate to getting into the room at last took almost 2 hours. Even at 32€ a night, this was not worth it.
Not a lot. The location proved to be useful, but if that is mentioned as an upside, I think you get where this review is going.
