How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewSuper clean, modern room beautifully decorated. Shutters to keep room cool and dark but once open an amazing city view. Fan provided. Delicious breakfast-croissant bread jam juice and hot drink Terrace with city view. Short walk into town. Equipped kitchen. Takeaway next door for cold drinks.
Parking is additional €10 and needs to be transferred to the owners bank. Not being a French bank holder the transfer fee would’ve been more than the parking fee. I didn’t bother and found shaded parking nearby. The main door must always be locked. It can only be opened with a key. Not sure how safe this would be in a fire/emergency.
Thank you very much for this constructive comment, I have noted the problem and will remedy it for the door closure. 🤗🤗🥰🥰

Verified reviewWe really liked the property and its view to the castle. The bed was comfy and the priperty was ckean. Breakfast was ok.
The comunication with a host was all in french. The owner charged us 10 eur per night to safely store our bikes in a garrage, we even had to make a picture of 10 eur in a box before telling us another code to get the key of a garage. A bit too excessive, especially when at check out the next day 10 eur were still there.
Hello, I'm sorry, but I have to do this for Parking, because at first everyone used Parking and forgot whether or not to pay for parking... 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️ For the French exchanges, since I saw it was written in French, I exchanged in French. Otherwise, I can exchange in English on the app. You have the automatic translator on the three dots next to the message bubble.

Verified reviewThere was no air conditioner. It was imposible to stay at the room. It looked like an hoven.
Stop for a moment, I had three comments the same day as you: a 10, a 9, and an 8. That says a lot about your character. It's not an oven either; I live there too. And there's a fan, too.

Verified reviewWe loved the location and amazing view of the Castle/Cite from the outside terrace particularly at night and having breakfast alfresco. The room we had was very clean, spacious and well designed with new fittings and fixtures. We slept very well in the comfortable bed woke up to a delicious continental breakfast with fresh croissants and homemade jam. There is a delightful shared kitchen with fridge/freezer, coffee machine with coffee beans provided and lots of cups/glasswear etc. The host was so kind and thoughtful and we only met him when he brought the breakfast as the venue is managed remotely with key codes etc, however this was very efficient and he had thought of everything so we enjoyed our stay immensely and will revisit with friends soon.

Verified reviewLocation is great for visiting Carcassonne Castle. Room had a nice view. Bed was comfortable. Shower was good. Outdoor common seating area was nice. I booked last minute and didn't read the bad reviews as booking shows the good ones first. I highly recommend you read them before booking this place.
Stairs to the rooms are metal and seem unsafe, windows and doors rattle, found loose ear plugs next to the bed, host said they provide them to guests, but they were not individually wrapped, so not very hygienic. Room wasn't cleaned well. There was no washing machine or body soap. Missing smoke detector. It's not a bed and breakfast it's a hostel with shared kitchen. Pay attention when booking, the rooms are called the same, have the same price but one is much smaller. Host was rude when I complained, said that he always has problems with Americans, not really knowing my nationality assuming I am American because I live there. Demanded apologies and said that I ruined his family dinner with my complains. I own a short term rental and would have never treated a guest like this.
Hello, I've owned four properties in four years, and this is the first time I've seen one like you. You sent me messages non-stop for four hours complaining that the room wasn't 25 m², even though you rented a 14 m² room. I had to go back to Booking.com to show you the room you booked and circle the size. Four hours of incessant messages complaining, even though you were the one at fault. I even had to call Booking.com to get them to call you and show you how you're the one at fault. This is unprecedented. Following that, you searched the house all night, looking at everything larger than 2.10 m, even 2.20 m, trying to find dust and send me a photo the next day. I repeat, this is unprecedented. I don't recommend you even for triple the price.

Verified reviewThe view from our window was excellent. Breakfast was reasonable. Location is good for visiting the citadel.
No staff at the location. After a long journey it took us quite some time to gain entry. Secure parking was charged at €10/day.
Hello, please take a good look at the ads next time instead of picking on me and giving me a bad rating. Everything is written in black and white, it's not enough to just look at the photos. Just read the options and services, it says it's an additional €10. And that the arrival is remote, thank you for learning to read.

Verified reviewWe were happy with parking in garage. Also very close to street with restaurant and connection to castle. Nice view from garden. Save place.
Room with windows to main street is very noisy. Very very simple breakfast. Little complicate go to garage if you dont know exactly where it is and you dont have key.

Verified reviewGreat location, Awazing view. Very Clean Self check-in & out Good price Okay breakfast (it is light, think of it as a freebie, not a hotel breakfast) Close to resturaunts and a corner store across the road. Only 1hr walk from the airport (but note there are no footpaths near the airport)
I read another review about rooms not locking and took the risk that this had been resolved. Unfortunately it had not as when we checked in, we found another guest already inside our room (which would not have happened if the keys worked on only their own doors). Check-in wise, these things happen, however not having secure rooms is completely unacceptable (I also checked our key and it opened the neighbouring room number as well)....this is a cheap fix which needs to be addressed. Worth noting also that it is possible to be locked outside on the shared terrace by other guests (again keys would solve this). Poor sound isolation -I understand there is a cost involved, but there are cheap fixes which would go a long way such as door seals, or not having a coffee machine that grinds beans availible 24/7 to guests. Beds & Pillows not particuarly comfortable, but acceptable for the price of room. Cleaners entered our room at 10:30am (presumably to see if we had checked out)...they should wait until check out time at the earliest.
