How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe hotel is located in a very good area: right in front of the bus stop, opposite to the Telecabine Les Prez Le Flegere, 2 min walk from the train station, 10 min bus from Chamonix centre, 40 min beautiful and pleasant walk to Chamonix centre.
The 18 euros breakfast buffet is a GIANT disappointment. We had a rest day so we wanted to take our day slowly and took the breakfast at the hotel. We started our breakfast at 8:15 am. The breakfast timings is from 7:30 am to 10:00 am. When we arrived, there were only a few small pieces of bacon left + 2 spoons of scrambled eggs. The rest of the "buffet" was, what we would call, "ready-made items": croissants, pain au chocolate, charcuterie, cheese, butter, jam, baguettes. Noting that the bacon and eggs were the highlighting part when the staff told us about the "variety" of the breakfast buffet...we asked the staff for more bacon & eggs. We were told: They are doing it. So, we took our time, ate a bit of what was there while waiting for eggs. At 9:15 am there was still nothing there (eggs and bacon) so we asked the hotel staff again. We were told: I think it's over, let me check with the kitchen. He went somewhere and came back: Sorry, it's over. I have told the kitchen to prepare more tomorrow. What is the use for more eggs TOMORROW...? I just paid 18 euros for a croissant that I can buy at 1.5 euro in a boulangerie, 3 pieces of cold meats, two slices of baguettes with jam. It's not that adding a spoon of scrambled eggs would make it 18 euros worth but at least... refill it... coz you just sold two buffet breakfasts when the food was over!?

The service attitude is sloppy and the management is messy. Because the restaurant attached to the hotel is understaffed and there are many guests in the restaurant, there is no one at the accommodation counter to serve, and there is no staff even after waiting for a long time to check in. I had to check out at 8 a.m. the next day and leave my luggage, but there were no staff in the entire hotel. It was really a strange hotel. I have traveled all over the world and stayed in many hotels, and I have never seen a hotel with such chaotic and disorderly management. As a result, I had no staff to store my luggage, which delayed my TMB trip and missed my train time.

Verified reviewThe hotel is in a great position with spectacular views of the mountains and glaciers from all sides. It is a couple of Km's from the center of Chamonix, however there are buses which run from just outside the hotel on a regular basis and also a train service from the little station about 150m away. The hotel has a good restaurant and bar and there are others in the local village. Our room was very clean and comfortable and had a balcony with views of the mountains. The staff were very helpful, providing information and booking taxis.

Verified reviewConveniently located in Les Praz. A very short walk from the Les Praz train station and the bus stop at the steps of the hotel made commuting around the Chamonix valley a breeze. The Flegere gondola was a very short walk additionally. The restaurant on the main floor with patio dinning served excellent food. Our very comfortable room provided an outstanding view of Mount Blanc, the Aiguille du Midi and the surrounding mountains on both sides of the valley. This is an excellent place to stay and I will certainly book lodging in the Hotel Le Castel on my next trip to Chamonix.
The entrance into the hotel is a little confusing. What I thought was the entrance into the building was actually the door into the restaurant’s kitchen.

Verified reviewOur room with Mont Blanc View
Poor communication… they claimed they had to close the kitchen/bar for annual cleaning one night but clearly was because no staff. Then they locked the place up and we and another couple in another room would not have been able to get back in at night because an interior lobby door would have been locked if we let it close. I had to prop it open with a cabinet. The next day a person told us we should have been given a code to a keypad (that was like 8 feet away from that door) that would have allowed us to get back in. They failed to do that at check in for us and the other couple! Also one day we placed the “make room up” on door early when we left the room and when we returned later that evening it was not touched. Understand we travel often and the lock out situation with the closing of an entire lower floor with no way to contact anyone has NEVER happened to us! Very bad of the staff to do this to guests and also lie about why they shut everything down!
