How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Verified reviewBreakfast was typically French (croissants and French bread and jam) plus the bonus of deliciously light chocolate cake - we took one piece with us for the journey! Jean-Francois was very welcoming and we found the setting fascinating: an old metal smithy which had been in his family for generations, lots of original tools on display in the dining room.
Nothing! Maybe a few teabags and coffee sachets would have been nice.

Verified reviewIt is a spacious and clean bedroom & a lovely living room (we didn't use it though) in a convenient location. 5 minutes walk to a nice restaurant/ bars. A lovely river and picnic area just across the property. Secure parking overnight (gate locked after 9pm) A wonderful breakfast ( homemade cake was bonus) was served in cosy "Atelier" which used to be metal workshop with old tools on display. Such a character, we really enjoyed staying there.

Rigid 2 hour check in 5pm -7pm so felt a little stressed about getting there on time. Bathroom needs refurbishing

Verified reviewVery clean, spacious rooms in old farmhouse type buildings situated by a pretty river, within easy walking distance to bars and restaurants. Included lounge with TV, access to a kitchen, very comfortable bed/bedroom. Pretty decor with an antiquities theme. Friendly welcoming host. Traditional breakfast. Easy parking.
Would have liked it to include orange juice at breakfast, shower gel or small toiletries, and an extra bath mat, but otherwise lovely and would definitely stay there again.

There was a kitchen but only 2 cups, no tea bags or coffee and no running water or sink, all rather odd really.

Your reserved space was bedroom, bathroom/toilet, living room. You also used a private space not intended for customers you called "kitchen" without asking, digging into private affairs does not do this, as we have a good sense of trade, we do not blame you. the minimum is not to criticize a place in the establishment that was not for you, by writing a note and an unfair comment. Just give an opinion on what was intended for you in the establishment.

We weren't sure which part of the building Monsieur was in to ask about heating. The bathroom was very dated.

The continental breakfast and homemade cake was really nice . The location is handy we stopped here overnight then travelled further south the next morning .

Verified reviewI booked this as an overnight stop for myself and daughter as we were travelling through the area. There is a very tight arrival window which wasn't well communicated. We arrived slightly late and called the property several times but had no response. We had to find last minute alternative accomodation for the night which was not ideal. The property have been contacted directly and through Booking.com and are uninterested in discussing the issues or even issuing a partical refund although they had no cleaning costs or breakfast to supply. I would avoid.

Travelers are attentive to this criterion, you had the possibility of booking an establishment open late at night if you had checked. You have not respected the arrival rule listed on the booking site. You do not notify of your delay before 7:00 p.m. You reported your arrival on site by written message at 8:10 p.m., one hour 10 minutes after the establishment closed. Which explains why there is no longer anyone to install you. The room was billed to you because it was blocked for you and could not be rebooked. Booking only made you explain that you had not respected the rules. You are the only responsible for your situation, take it only to you. The establishment has respected the reservation rules. As you want to have the last word, you spit out your resentment in a comment and give the establishment a rating of 1. Pitiful attitude... Future readers will judge your state of mind.
