Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United StatesThe winding stone stairs were difficult to navigate at first with lots of luggage, but I was tired when we arrived.
History, warm and cozy. Great breakfast. Helpful host.

AustraliaThe seperate shared toilet to our room. I did not understand that we only rented a room and not the entire apartment - should’ve read other peoples reviews better.
We loved the fresh breakfasts and the historic building and renovation. Our host was very friendly and wanted us to enjoy our stay.

United StatesQuiet room, very clean and comfortable, wonderful host, absolutely wonderful breakfast, and a fantastic location in Bayeux. Our host, and the owner, Jean Paul treated us like family, making breakfast when we needed it to accommodate our early morning tours, booking dinner reservations at difficult to get highly rated restaurants in advance of our stay, and generally answering all my questions before our stay. I highly recommend La Matrisse and Jean Paul for all his attention to our comfort!

It was super clean and in a perfect location. Like most B&Bs, you have your own bedroom but share common space with the owner. The owner, Jean Paul, is so kind and helpful. Knowing that we had to leave early on our last day, and knowing that a pastry shop didn’t open early enough, he went to the back door and talked to the bakers to bring us fresh croissants! The property is truly a work of art itself as you can see in the pictures. Thank you Jean Paul!

United StatesThe description doesn’t make it very clear that you are sharing the apartment with the host. The toilet is down the hall but robes are provided. After I swapped out the duvet for a quilt my sleeping temperature was comfortable.
Great communication with the host! He allowed for early check-in and late check-out so we could secure our luggage. Breakfast was big and delicious. The host is very sweet and has some knowledge of English

United StatesSharing a toilet would not be my first choice but was not an issue. And our room had its own spacious shower and sinks.
Loved the location and the proprietor was so kind and helpful! I enjoyed hearing some of Jean Paul's local knowledge since he grew up in Bayeaux and has spent much of his life in Normandy. He has restored the property with much attention to detail! And he made an excellent cup of coffee!

United StatesYou are sharing the apartment with the host. JP was very nice and spoke enough English. The bedroom, shower and sinks are private. You may share a toilet. It’s separate and have to walk by his bedroom to access. Unsure if he uses the same one. We were literally there for 16 hours. Parking is on the street a few blocks away which was fine. Apple Maps routed us incorrectly. Its was guiding you the wrong way down a 1 way (where the BnB is). Had to do a big box around and the house number was quite small. Pass it the first time.
Very updated, centrally located and clean. Breakfast was good with bread from local bakery

United KingdomThe toilet was a little further away from the bedroom than we would have liked. Although the breakfast was tasty (traditional bread, jam and fruit) we would have liked more variety: for example croissants, yogurts, cheese and other fruits would have been good.
A beautifully appointed property. The bedroom was spacious with a splendid ensuite shower and the king sized bed most comfortable. The living room had a fantastic view of the cathedral. It was a very peaceful and relaxing place to chill out. The location to the cathedral and shops was excellent with free parking close by. The host was friendly.

New ZealandThis is a beautifully refurbished 13th-century building. Staying in this accommodation is like stepping back in time. As far as I could see, it only provides accommodation for two, and it does that well. On the days that I stayed; the owner served a particularly good continental breakfast. Whilst sitting and eating breakfast, the view of the cathedral through the window is quite spectacular, only 100 m away. Of my one-month holiday, this is my best-remembered accommodation. I particularly liked the walk-in shower.

United StatesNothing. It was great.
It is in a lovely old building near the Bayeux Cathedral. But it is completely updated. Very comfortable and spacious. You have a suite to yourself. It is very quiet at the home. The owner is very helpful and very respectful of your space. And he’s really really nice.

United KingdomAs I am quite elderly I found the two flights of stairs a little tiring. The help of a rail up the side would have made me feel a little more secure.
The host was very accommodating and helpful. The property was extremely well situated in the centre of Bayeux. The property was in a beautiful old building with a lot of charm and character. A lovely room and breakfast.

United StatesWhat a beautiful property. We had stayed at some really beautiful properties in Normandy, but our stay in Bayeaux with Jpol was a highlight. I am so impressed with the beautiful space Jpol has created from an ancient building. It’s truly a work of art. The photo of the cathedral from his living room window does not do justice to the dramatic view in real life. Originally this was a tiny asymmetrical window that he cut generously to make this view possible. Despite the antiquity of the building, the central location, and the ease of nearby free parking around Place Charles de Gaulle, the accommodations are quiet and peaceful. We were very comfortable. This is Jpol’s home, but he gave us lots of privacy. He made us a lovely breakfast in his spectacular kitchen/living room with its 13 century rafters. We are appreciative of the experience. If you get the opportunity to stay here, count yourself amongst the lucky few. Jpol recommended the nearby restaurant Le petit Restó also. It was also wonderful. Felt like we left friends behind in their staff and Jpol’s.
