How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewMostly good things , location is great , it’s clean and it’s well designed . Downsides: the apartment is pretty dark and doesn’t get any lights unlike the pictures that shows a bright place. Since it’s dark and doesn’t get any sunlight it doesn’t get hot and you really don’t need an AC we did it even turn it on once. It’s on the first floor which not having an elevator is not a big deal but the stairs are pretty narrow so you need to be extra careful not to slip or fall down( it’s also dark in the hallways) . I don’t recommend for people with disability .
Just the fact that it’s pretty dark. If I knew the ac was not a big deal to have and it’s not that hot I would have booked another place .

Verified reviewIn the very evocative old part of the city, but at the far end where human traffic was minimal. The city's integrated transport system is superb: clean, graffiti-free, punctual and efficient. Abundant restaurants and places of interest. The Maison Debourg is in a very traditional building with unique character. Facilities are very good: the bathroom, bedroom and kitchen area are all well pointed and of impressive dimensions - for a couple at least.
It took time to achieve a response to enquiries about how to leave the keys on departure. Everything else worked like clockwork.

Verified reviewWashing machine
There is only a narrow spiral staircase to the 4th floor which was not communicated on the booking.com website and carrying heavy suitcases up and down is very unsafe. The entrance and stairwell smelt of stale cigarettes. The shower drain was blocked and a very noisy extract fan could not be switched off. The apartment was not clean and the higher rating on booking.com was very misleading.

Verified reviewLocation, clean and quiet.
We couldn’t get the TV to work despite the instructions. We are tennis fans and would have liked to watch some of the French Open.

Verified reviewFabulous location in Lyon for walking within Vieux Lyon and to the peninsula/central city, rivers, markets, Croix Rousse, Roman amphitheatre, cathedral, bike hire, museums, art gallery.... Nicely decorated spacious apartment for 2-4 people. Well equipped. Almost next door to a small store supplying fruit, veg, basic goods.
The shower base overflowed partly due to design and mostly due to a blocked drain. This was quickly rectified by the owner calling in a plumber. The 'terrace/balcony/overlooking courtyard' area was unattractive and smelt of others' cigarettes. **Be aware there are 77 steps up a spiral staircase to get to the apartment.

Verified reviewWe enjoyed staying in a building with such historical significance. Also the location was terrific for exploring. Had everything we needed, including a very comfortable bed.
4 flights of stairs with heavy suitcases!

Verified reviewBuilding was historic and quaint. Location was excellent. Bed was comfortable. Kitchen had all the necessities.
Really my only dissatisfaction is no fault of the property manager, it's the fact that the entire apartment and everything in it carries an inescapable, faint smell of smoke. This seems to mostly be due to the fact that the workers in the ground floor restaurant use the interior courtyard to smoke cigarettes constantly throughout their shifts. When we closed all the curtains and doors it seemed to keep the smoke out somewhat, but as my husband and I both have bad allergies and asthma, it was an uncomfortable stay.

Verified reviewA lovely location but we were confronted by the eighty steps up to the apartment. It was a bit rustic but the square outside was charming.
We would have liked to get the instructions on how to access the apartment on both our phone and email because when we arrived we had received no details and relied on a local girl to help us gain entry. Communication needs to be clarified.

Verified reviewNice apartment with a of lot care about the details and art. Excellent location.
Forth floor without elevator - but this we knew... ;) The air shafts were a bit noisy, and it was a bit chilly, but we resisted using AC...good blankets though! :)

Verified reviewLoved the location and the building! The shower was lovely and it was really helpful to have a washing machine!
That because smoking is allowed in the building’s courtyard, the whole apartment often smells of smoke because the courtyards get much of a through flow. The smell got a lot better once we opened the shutter between the courtyards on the balcony, which I highly recommend!

Verified reviewLocation great. Instruction and communication for check-in also.
For two evenings, there was a noticeable smell of cigarette smoke coming probably from neighboring apartments. Once notified the host, we did not get any reaction, though on the last night, the smell disappeared.

Verified reviewLovely cost atmosphere. Nicely decorated. Character. Comfortable bed.
There was a lot of rain the first day we were there, and the ceiling leaked. Luckily, we were there and were able to put some pots under the drips. The hair dryer wasn’t working (only cold air). Communication with the owner was slow and not very responsive when I raised some questions prior to my stay, and also with the leaks. Apparently there was a problem with her mobile, and it didn’t really affect our stay but made me a little anxious.

Verified reviewLocation was very good.
Not as advertised. Write up of property misleading. Owners have more than one flat at the building but are using a generic writeup to describe all. Our family flat was basically a one bedroom with a very old and thrashed pullout couch( unlike the photos). There was no microwave, fireplace( now a bookshelf),view ( unless you count the inner courtyard overlooking the bike rack and garbage cans) . On the positive side al appliances worked well.

Verified reviewGreat location to explore the city- easy to walk everywhere from it! Great bakery just a few minutes down the road for breakfast bits too. Had everything you need in the kitchen area. Some tea and basics already there which was helpful. Comfy sofa and TV area.
Lots of stairs up- I think 4 flights of a circular staircase which was challenging with suitcases! Nice apartment but not the biggest, has all the cooking stuff, but we decided it was nicer to go out rather than eat in.
