Although the property is beautifully restored I wouldn't recommend it for anyone who is infirm as the open plan, barn style steps up to the mezzanine bedrooms are quite steep. There were no decent knives for food preparation.

Beautifully restored and presented Gite on the lake at Ardres. Photos in the house show how it has been totally renovated from a ramshackle property with a well designed, chic and rustic interior. The location is great for the ferry or Eurotunnel as well as the beaches and countryside of Nord Pas de Calais. Ardres is a pretty village with a few restaurants although we only ate at one due to a short stay.

Just slight struggle going to the bedrooms. Love the whole idea of it but definitely not one for small children or elderly.

Beautiful house and garden that backs onto lake. Everything you need and lovely restaurants/bars 15 minutes walk. Easy lockbox check in which suited us perfect. The log burner is a massive bonus. The host was very responsive.

Stairs to bedrooms were very steep. Care needs to be taken particularly at night. Would be more than happy to book again and recommend.

Location was great for eurotunnel the next day. Dog friendly garden. The main room was nicely decorated/with quirky items and well equipped. Good spacious bathroom. Good dog friendly restaurant walking distance.

The property was an excellent standard with loads of thoughts gone into little details and was in an excellent location for accessing the town of Chablis. The hosts went out of their way to be really helpful and accomodating.

Lovely location, close to Eurotunel, very helpful host, easy to contact. Safe fenced grounds where our dog could run free. Beautiful views of the lake.

Everything was amazing. The only thing missing was an extra baking tray for the oven!

The location is great for relaxation! The lake is beautiful and we stopped over on our way to Disney. There seem to be a lot of local water sports available on the lake if you wanted a more active break. The icecream shop on the lake was amazing :) The accommodation exceeded expectations. It's really spacious and the kitchen appliances were great.

The access to the bedrooms on the mezzanine floors was difficult as access was up very steep staircase resembling a ladder with limited handrail and space to access upper level due to slope of ceiling, room beams and ledge on side. Also no instructions for any appliances such as radiates, oven etc. Pillows were particularly bad as provided no support due to being flat

The property location was good, the cleanliness was exceptionally good and the property had everything you required, east access and good parking.

We found the stairs to the bedrooms a little tricky to go up and even more so to come down (banister felt low). Because the bedrooms were mezzanine style, visitors need to be prepared to duck their heads to move around them.

A really well located property-close to the eurotunnel but away from the hussle and bustle. Quiet and pretty location. Really loved the log fire and football table. Open living area was great but took a while to warm up. Over all a gem of a place.

The toilet exhaust fan should be capable of manual operated. It is turned on only when relative humidity is high during shower. But it should be also turned on manually when people use it with bowel gas or unwell smell coming out.

It is beautiful with decoration, spacious drive in car park for max 6 cars.

It’s probably not the most suitable place for very young kids because of the mezzanine bedroom setup but that’s our fault rather than the property’s. We managed fine and the kids loved the house!

Beautiful cottage with a lovely maritime theme. Very impressive renovation. Lots of outside space and inside living space. Very well equipped. The location is also great as the lake locality is a real find so close to Calais. I will certainly remember it is there for future and sim to stay longer in the area.

The stairs to the bedrooms were very steep and hard to use for an older person. It made it difficult to go to the bathroom in the night. Lighting downstairs would be better split so that you can leave only some lights on overnight. Lighting in the double bedroom could be better on the right hand side for reading in bed.

Access to the bedrooms could be much safer with a proper staircase instead of ladders. We were four guests but only provided with two towels. The kettle was very dirty and unpleasant to use. There were also no toiletries available (no shower gel, soap, or similar essentials).

The house is interesting and full of character, with many nice features and a great secure parking space. However, it’s a shame that the service does not match the quality of the house.
