How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewLille is the capital of the Hauts-de-France region in northern France, close to the Belgian border and is a bustling university city steeped in culture which once was an important merchant centre known as 'the Capital des Flandres' The historic centre, Vieux Lille, is characterized by 17th-century brick town houses, cobbled pedestrian streets and the large central square, Grand Place. The Palais des Beaux-Arts Museum is home to the 2nd largest art collection in France displays work from Goya, Rembrandt, and Rubens. Encapsulating the Flemish influence central Lille is the Place du General de Gaulle (the Grand Place) the Art Deco home of La Voix du Nord (the leading regional newspaper) crowned with a gilded sculpture of the Three Graces. Denis is the perfect host polite and most helpful ensuring you have an enjoyable stay. On our return visit homeward bound noted that refurbishing/redecorating has begun we suggested beginning of June. Recommended is dinner and drinks on Achimedes Barge Bar/Restaurant - classical bistro cuisine in an urban chic setting aboard a moored Barge with an open deck - on a hot summers evening what a fun experience!

Verified reviewArrival at L'Esplanade Lille was the commencement of our travels through France and Spain although excited were sad to experience the premises lacked the lustre and depleted artwork displays that we have enjoyed on previous occasions. Denis was as affable, courteous and freindly as usual. The provision of private, safe/secure off-road parking for an extra fee from discussion with Denis is an absolute bonus for a short stay in this delightful city.
We have enjoyed Room "Scrive" on our last visit 2 years ago - however found that the Shower was leaking into the bedroom (which was promptly reported to Denis) The outside patio was unkempt and dirty spoiling the ambience. The Towels were not the usual quality expected. Sadly too the breakfast was disapointing not the sumtious feast we previously enjoyed - Elaine despite providing notice of lactose intolerance found the items offered were not as requested and thus totally unsuitable.

Verified reviewNewly refurbished room in a nice old building. The room was spacious and very clean. We liked the location close to the park where the fair takes place and at walking distance from the city centre. Nice decorations and pieces of art throughout the building.
The wc was in a suffocating cubicle (less than 1sqm) with poor ventilation and separate from the shower and basin. We asked for a room on a higher floor to avoid noise from above guests. We were assigned a room on the top floor (roof level) which had only roof lights and no windows. So the view wasn't great. Also the blinds did not shut properly, so we had sunlight through just above the bed. The breakfast was pricey and we decided to have it somewhere else.

Allow me to provide a few clarifications regarding your comments: Our breakfast, offered at €17.50, features a generous selection of fresh, high-quality products every morning: baguette, pastries, and sugar brioche prepared by our baker and delivered daily, homemade jams, unsalted and semi-salted butter, cereals, yogurt, organic orange and apple juice, boiled eggs, Serrano ham, a variety of cheeses, and a selection of hot drinks (various coffees, teas, hot chocolate, etc.). The room you stayed in has a walk-in shower with a sink, as well as a second bathroom equipped with a bathtub and sink. For greater comfort, the standard-sized toilet is separate. You will also find seven fully blackout VELUX windows offering views both over the rooftops of Old Lille and across the Esplanade with its Citadel. Our goal remains the same: to ensure every guest enjoys a pleasant and memorable experience. This is why we always take constructive feedback into account and provide these clarifications so that future guests have all the information they need. Verified reviewDescription stated noise proofing and this was definitely not the case. Although the location is quite the building itself has no sound proofing and so you can hear the sounds made by all guest rooms around you. Bathroom was also in the bedroom and although this is increasingly common it is unusual to have a shower tray without a rim so that it is almost impossible to keep the water inside. We used a lot of towels trying to keep the floor dry
Things seemed a little stingy for the price paid. Eg the coffee maker is a good touch but just one decaf and one normal coffee sachet in a double room is a bit tight

Easy check in. We loved having the access codes on main door and rooms so you did not have to worry about a key. Denis was a wonderful host. We highly recommend!

Verified reviewThe location was fantastic. I couldn’t have asked for a better location. Situated at the prettiest part of Lille & overlooking a park, I would say this was too good to be true location.
There were no staff around so we felt kind of left alone. No one to reach out to & even the bath towels n linens were not replenished adequately while we were staying.
