How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewExcellent location just. 10 minute walk to the main beach.
Nothing, maybe just needs a tad more maintenance here and there. Slightly dated in places, but excellent experience.

Verified reviewSuch a beautiful, quaint and clean property, everyone was so sweet and helpful. The front desk girl was amazing and helped us with all of our needs. This hotel is very close to Monaco (25-30mins) away and also 20 mins from the Beach. Thank you for your hospitality!

Verified reviewRoom unavailable- Last minute cancellation from hotel as they had double booked so unable to stay despite confirmation from booking.com. Alternative accommodation given was many kilometres away and was not the same value for money. Very disappointed.
Dear Susan, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback, although we are truly sorry to hear about your disappointment. Please accept our sincerest apologies for this unfortunate situation. Due to an exceptional overbooking error, we were forced to cancel your stay at the last minute. We fully understand how frustrating this must have been, especially given that the alternative accommodations offered were not up to your expectations in terms of location or value. Please rest assured that we have already taken steps to ensure this type of incident does not happen again in the future. We are committed to the reliability of our bookings, and your satisfaction remains our top priority. We genuinely hope to have the opportunity to regain your trust during a future stay. Verified reviewSpacious, great view from the balcony that overlooks the port. Contrary to what was stated on the listing, there was actually a lift in the building.
No drinking water provided. There was also a miscommunication at the beginning when the hotel told us to cancel the booking as they have double booked, but it eventually was sorted out. Unfortunately due to the construction of the walking path along the coast we have to take a long detour with our heavy luggage (the journey was steep) from the train station to the hotel and back.

Verified reviewStaff were friendly and it was clean with a convenient elevator.
The bed was very uncomfortable and the room is in need of a renovation. We also had to wait until 4pm to check in because when we arrived at 1:30pm for check in time it was not ready. We had just flown 26 hours from Australia so were very disappointed with this.

Verified reviewOverall a great value. We had a garden room, which other reviewers said was small but we felt its size was decent. The room was clean (as was the whole hotel), staff pleasant, shower was good and breakfast on the deck felt like a fair value (14€). The rooms facing the marina did look lovely and we would return and request a room facing the marina/ocean. Dinner one night at La Stoa, a small restaurant that operates most nights out of the hotel breakfast area, was excellent! La Stoa’s food was a treat, the waiter was professional but also friendly, and being seated on the veranda for dinner was a lovely experience (and they had blankets to keep us cozy as the sun set and it got a little chilly).
The beds were too firm for our liking and as other reviewers have mentioned, there was some noise from the hallway (mostly doors and footsteps) but we’re used to using earplugs as needed, so the hallway noise was not a big problem. Not necessarily a negative in general, but be aware that the entire Villefranche area requires walking uphill & downhill, often on cobblestones, and there are lots of staircases throughout the city (though we saw an elevator at the hotel); having mobility challenges could definitely impact one’s visit to almost anywhere in this city.

Verified reviewThe Sea view room is definitely a better stay. Do NOT get the garden view room as it's a significantly smaller room. The view is well worth it! And the balcony is very nice to hang out and enjoy the sun and views.
The garden view room is very small and a tight space. The bathroom is small and the shower is not comfortable. Maybe the rooms can have hooks or something to hang clothes/jackets.

Verified reviewThe location is very well located if you want to get away from the more hustle bustle city centre, however still within walkable distance to everywhere. The room is OK considering the price, the shower is however quite small. The hotel offer beach towels, deck chairs to borrow if you're heading to the beach, a bonus for the service. Overall we are happy with our stay here.
