Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

NetherlandsOur stay at this accommodation was an incredible, almost one of those unique-once-in-a-lifetime experiences. My parents and I stayed for 2 nights in the Verdale junior suite. The room was perfectly sized for three adults - with a spacious main bed and a separate, cozy nook with a single bed. This layout provided ample space and comfort for everyone. The grounds themselves are a breathtaking masterpiece with unique character and charm. The beauty of the entire property is truly indescribable, making every moment spent there feel special. The breakfast and dinner settings were magical. We spent an entire afternoon at the pool with rosè. What truly elevated our stay was the exceptional hospitality of Brian. He is an amazing host who consistently went above and beyond to ensure our comfort. It's clear that he has poured his heart into this place and has a genuine passion for creating a welcoming and memorable experience for his guests. I can't recommend this place enough - you absolutely will not regret staying here!

My husband and I had the most wonderful stay. We can't complain about a single thing. Brian was born to be a host - he is so welcoming. The food was excellent - breakfast was huge and dinner was absolutely delicious. We had the pool to ourselves 90% of the time. We loved having access to the bikes to be able to get into town.

United StatesThere is nothing to dislike, but I would add that this is more suited for seasoned traveled adults. The rooms are decorated with collected antiques.
The host is a more than marvelous Irishman and his restoration of his 300 year old property is a work of art. This is not a resort. Brian also cooks and provides morning meals and perhaps more if you make arrangements (not included in room pricing). This is a real country experience, but you supply your own daytime activities...maybe a Rhone kayak experience. We toured Avignon, only 15 minutes away. We would book Brian again.

United StatesThe Bastide is on a quiet island outside the walls of Avignon, but travel time to the city is only 15 minutes by bicycle and slightly less by car. And if you ride on the bikes provided, the wide path to the city is dedicated to bikes only, so there’s almost no car traffic between the property and the city walls. It’s well worth it. As for the property, it is so peaceful and relaxing, you might be tempted to stay there and skip going into Avignon for a day or two. That's what we did, as it was the end of our three week vacation, a perfect time to wind down with a glass of rose. Brian is a superb host, from the making the extraordinary breakfasts each morning to cooking the delicious dinners served on the patio each evening. He has a special skill in getting the guests to interact if they wish and to let them be if they choose. All the while, he exudes a contagious spirit of enthusiasm for life’s pleasures. We loved every minute of our stay and look forward to a quick return.

United KingdomWe loved everything - it was so good that we almost weren’t bothered to go sightseeing, preferring the peace and tranquility of such a luxurious and beautiful place to stay. My 13 year old daughter and I were greeted at the door by a smiling Brian, who turned out to be an incredible host - attentive, kind, discreet, never in your face but nothing too much trouble. It is clear that he loves what he has created here basically from ruins just five years ago, and should feel really proud of the wonderful homely luxury created. The historic building itself is gorgeous; the grounds are well tended and planted, with loungers and chairs to enjoy the tranquil outdoor space punctuated only by birdsong. The interior design is just fabulous - classic, tasteful and traditional with a careful modern curation. The beds are extremely comfortable and we slept soundly straight away - no mean feat when travelling. The stylish large bathrooms are new and pristine - always a winner for me. And the food - wow. An unhurried breakfast was more than one could manage and all fresh local produce - french pastries, cheeses and meats, fruit, omelette, freshly squeezed juice. I could go on..! Oh and there are bikes available too. - an easy 15 minute leisurely cycle into the centre of Avignon - MUCH better than by car. We’ll be back… if we can find availability!

United StatesWe had the most wonderful time at Bastide de Bellegarde, everything far exceeded my expectations, it was by far one of the highlights of our trip to France. Brian was the most wonderful host you could ask for. He went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable, but also so delightful to talk with and learn about the history of the home. The decor and rooms were gorgeous and impeccably clean, it was like being in a beautiful French dream home. The beds were extremely comfortable! The breakfast was delicious, fresh pastries, fruit, cheese, omelettes, and more, we were set for the day. One of the highlights of our stay was the five star dinner we had our last night. I’m still dreaming of it! Best meal I had in Provence. We will absolutely be back as soon as it’s possible!!

United StatesWe had the pleasure of spending two wonderful nights at La Bastide, and it was truly unforgettable. Bryan is an exceptional host—both warm and welcoming, yet perfectly discreet. He shared the fascinating story behind his meticulous selection of the furniture and details that give the bastide its unique charm. We thoroughly enjoyed our conversations with him, and his tips for exploring the nearby towns were spot on. Our room was incredible—more like a suite—radiating a perfect blend of Provençal elegance and castle-like allure. And the breakfast? Absolutely spectacular! It was a feast of fresh, high-quality ingredients: a vibrant fruit bowl, freshly baked bread, cheeses, charcuterie, pastries, a homemade omelet, and more (I’m sure I’m forgetting a few things!). Served in the bright and airy orangerie with a stunning view of the garden, it was the perfect way to start each day. Our weekend was truly magical, and I can’t wait to return!

FranceTaxis to / from Avignon can be expensive (20€ each way) so consider taking the bus or having your own car, and there are lots of mosquitos! Brian had a stock of spray, but definitely something to watch out for.

United StatesEverything about this property was picture perfect. Me and my fiancé spent 5 nights here, and it honestly still didn’t feel like enough time. Our jaws dropped driving up to the stunning property. Brian was the most incredible host. He was so attentive, caring, funny, and genuine. Our room felt so picturesque. The pool was absolutely beautiful and perfect for the hot days we experienced there. During our stay we felt like we got to know Brian as a friend and we truly can’t wait to come back to this property. The true star of the show was the food we ate here. I read the reviews saying the dinner on property every night was absolutely amazing. We chose to have dinner there our first night and we both agreed it was one of the best meals we have ever had. We ended up eating there 4 out of the 5 nights we were there, and every single night was immaculate. The breakfast in the morning was also incredible and the service was amazing. We got engaged on this trip and Brian made us feel so special and celebrated. I cannot recommend this property enough. It is a once in a lifetime experience.
