Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomAbsolutely gorgeous setting among the trees in a pretty garden, but what made this hotel stand out was the lovely friendly family who run it. So kind, cheerful and genuinely helpful, a real home from home for weary travellers. Easy to find, spotless, interesting building, great breakfast, they contacted us before our stay to ask if we required a meal on the Sunday evening. We didn't but we wish we had. I had a nice walk in the village while my partner was in the bar then a peaceful night's sleep. Can't recommend this hotel enough, we travel a lot and this is a rare find.

NorwayA peaceful and charming place with cozy rooms, this family-owned establishment offers warm hospitality and recommendations for exploring the area. It is very nice to have breakfast on the terrace while listening to birdsong and taking in the picturesque scenery. You can also sit comfortably in the evening by the fireplace with a glass of good wine.

United KingdomOur stay was too short.
A tranquil location in a verdant valley next to the Vezere river. Easy walking through deciduous forest to Roque St Christophe (best to have a walking app) and back alongside the river via St Leon sur Vezere. Our hosts were attentive and charming. I km evening walk to excellent local restaurant. Packed lunch available from our hosts, and a set evening platter if you opt not to eat out. A much loved family operated auberge

United KingdomNothing, everything was perfect. Maybe if they have a kettle either in the shared kitchen area or in the rooms, it would be even better.
It's a little paradise, complete tranquility, unbelievably beautiful views from the garden terrace. The room was comfortable and spotless clean. The breakfast was great and we could have it in the garden which made it even more beautiful. The place is owned by a family and they are all lovely and great hosts and recommended many things we could do in the area and restaurants to try. The location was great too as you can get to an absolutely amazing restaurant 15minutes walk away from your stay and another small marvellous town can be reached by a 30minutes walk through a beautiful forest, it's a path that goes next to prehistoric sites on one side and the river on the other. We had an absolutely fantastic stay.

CanadaThe Auberge de Castel Merle is set on top of a cliff overlooking the Vezeres River in the Dordogne. It is about 20 minutes from Les Eyzies, one of the picturesque towns of the area, a town filled with good restaurants. We spent a very pleasant week at the Auberge and it was a great centre for our various visits to caves and chateaux and castles. The facilities were great. We had a separate little lodge which was very well equipped and comfortable. Breakfasts were excellent -- breads, jams, hard-boiled eggs, cheese, yoghurt, juice and very good coffee. In the evenings a bar was open and we could either sit out or go to the large common room where there was a wood stove. I should mention that the area was unseasonably cool for this time of the year -- real autumn weather. The staff were particularly helpful, especially for us our host who was most informative about the area and made several excellent suggestions. I was not surprised at all to find out that some other Canadians visit the Auberge regularly. I would go there again for certain.

United KingdomThe bar and garden close at 7pm, would have been nice to be able to maybe sit in the garden after 7, even with our own drinks.
Lovely breakfast in beautiful location, overlooking the river. Friendly, family run business. Bedrooms all have air conditioning which was really welcome! Fantastic traditional restaurant within walking distance.

Often photos on sites make a place look better than it actually is. Auberge de Castel-Merle is so much better than the photos led me to expect. Truly one of the most lovely accommodation experiences I have ever had. I hope to stay there again.
