How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Verified reviewThe location was very good, as it was only a short walk into the centre of the city. The room was clean and tidy, appreciated amenities like coffee and shower gel etc being provided. Parking access was easy once we had pre-booked.
The cot bed we were given didn't have the base piece that goes inside, so we had to improvise with spare bedding and cushions. The apartment was quite small for a family of four though we only really used it for sleeping anyway.

Verified reviewIt was very easy to get into the building, parking slots was available and it was green from 7pm till 9am. It was a nice cosy flat. Very clean and had everything you need. The only problem was the sofa bed that was making a strange noise when my children were turning to their sides, so the noise woke us up a few times. Other than it was all good and we already reported the sofa to the staff, so hopefully they will look into it.

Verified reviewLocation is good. Easy to park in front if you haven’t requested parking. If you request it, you drive through the garage to a courtyard. It was fine, but I’d have happily parked out the front if I’d realised it’d be so easy. Check in is simple if you follow the instructions.
I was disappointed with the cleanliness. I didn’t use the coffee making stuff as it was not clean. It would have felt much more comfortable if there had been a thorough clean.

No hot water in the shower, bathroom smells of sewer

As for the bathroom odor, sometimes if the bathroom hasn’t been used for several days, a slight smell from the pipes can occur. Running some water usually resolves this quickly. Verified reviewThe price and location were perfect for a one-night stop over en-route back to Calais. Great apartment for 2 adults and two children with a useful kitchenette, making it really easy to sort snacks, breakfast etc. Easy walking distance to convenience stores and park, and although we didn't this time, it's only a short walk to the centre. Really easy check-in with all access info provided upfront, secure parking and relaxed checkout.
We could have done with more cutlery, as we booked as four, and a clean sponge for cleaning the dishes. The secure parking, costing an extra €10 was a very tight basement spot. I'm happy to have paid for it, but was a bit confused as any member of the public can access the parking. I felt assured that the car itself was perhaps more secure, it just felt as though it could still be vulnerable to breaking and entering, a risk in our situation given we were en-route and had a full load of holiday and camping kit.

Verified reviewPerfect little self catering apartment for a cheap city mini break. A short walk into the centre of Reims. It was easy to check in and out and we were contacted beforehand with all the information we needed. Secure underground parking that we were able to book in advance was a bonus.
The bed was a bit small for two of us.

Everything was unhygenic from toilets to bedrooms to the kitchen. Hair on beds and even in the fridge.
We are sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations. That said, we are quite surprised by your review, especially the claim that everything was unhygienic. Our apartments are cleaned before each arrival, and we take hygiene very seriously. As mentioned clearly in the check-in information, there is no on-site staff during weekends, but we remain available and reachable at all times for any issues — including by phone or message. Unfortunately, you did not reach out to us at any point during your stay to report a problem, which would have allowed us to assist you immediately. If something wasn’t right, we truly wish you had let us know so we could have fixed it. Leaving such a harsh review without giving us the opportunity to address anything is unfortunate...

Dreadful place. No staff available at all on weekends if there is an issue. Self check in is ok if you get what you have requested. We had confirmation that secure parking for our motorcycle was booked. This wasn't the case as when we checked in (via sms & self access safe) there was no fob to access the secure parking. We rang the numbers specified but one rang in the office/reception that was unmanned throughout our time there. The other was simply for assistance with the WiFi. We had to park our very expensive motorcycle outside on the main road. The room was filthy throughout. Extremely disappointed with the whole experience.

Verified reviewThe place is not a hotel or hostel, it is an apartment complex and Bonnie works there or answers phone. They give you a door code and you have to open a safe and get your keys and check in yourself and check out by dropping keys in mailbox. No one helped. Could not check in until 3pm, could not leave bags. Very unhelpful

You reported a problem opening the key box… which turned out to be a simple code error on your end. Once corrected, everything worked as expected. We were fully available and responsive to assist you throughout. We therefore regret that you claimed no help was provided, as that is inaccurate and does not reflect the reality of our exchanges, so such a low rating is really not justified. By the way, as the name suggests, an aparthotel is a complex of furnished apartments, not a traditional hotel with 24-7 reception. It is therefore perfectly normal that there isn’t someone permanently on site. You were refused an early check-in simply because the apartment wasn’t ready yet — nothing unusual or unreasonable. Now, if you are looking for round-the-clock service, we encourage you to book a traditional hotel next time. But that does not justify blaming a different concept for not matching your expectations.

Rickety bed and chairs. The supports on the bed were not at the corners, causing the bed to tip up if sat on the edge. Poor quality bedding. A major issue was security. The key opened the front door into a small kitchen/vestibule. There were two doors to two apartments leading off vestibule and no way of locking our door. We felt insecure and placed a chair under the door handle to impede any outsider trying to enter. There were few plug sockets, so any guest should take an extension lead. The overall impression was of poor student accommodation. We arrived late after a long joirney and were looking forward to a restful night. At no time during our stay was there anyone in reception.

There was no risk of intrusion, and you did not need to lock yourselves in the bedroom, as no one else had access to the apartment. Since you reached out to us several times over the weekend regarding your booking (and we responded quickly), it’s unfortunate you didn’t also ask about the apartment layout — this would have cleared up the confusion and avoided any stress. Our reception is closed on weekends, as clearly indicated in the listing and welcome documents, but we remain available — as you experienced firsthand.
