How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Loved everything- but don’t bring large suitcases. Lots of climbing and lifting to get to our bedroom loft.

Verified reviewI liked the location
When we arrived at the reception, the gentleman there sent us with a young lady to check us in. Instead of the spacious two-story cabin with a fireplace that we had booked, she showed us to a very small and disappointing cabin. My husband is 2 meters tall, and his legs were hanging off the bed by about 20 centimeters. The place was nothing like the property we had reserved. When I went back to the reception to raise this issue, the gentleman was extremely rude and dismissive. He told me that another couple wanted to extend their stay in the cabin we had booked (1st picture) , and since they paid for it, the management gave them our property and placed us in this smaller one instead. He insisted it was “the same price,” as if that justified the downgrade. This is completely unacceptable, as customers should receive exactly what they have booked. On top of this, the cabin we were given was dirty, full of cobwebs and dust, and very uncomfortable. It felt neglected and not properly cleaned. For the price we paid, this was a huge disappointment. I am extremely dissatisfied with my stay and would never recommend this property to anyone. Chamonix has plenty of other hotels and chalets that, for the same price, offer far better service, cleanliness, comfort, and even spa facilities. This place is severely overpriced for what it provides, and people should not be misled into booking it.
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us, although we are deeply dismayed by the issues you encountered. Please accept our most sincere apologies for this unacceptable situation. What you have described in no way reflects our service standards, and we are appalled that the cabin you were assigned did not match your reservation and was in such a poor state of cleanliness. We are also shocked by the lack of professionalism and impoliteness you described from our reception team. Such behavior is unacceptable, and we will immediately take measures to address this issue internally. To us, your reservation is a promise, and the fact that we did not honor it is an unforgivable error on our part. We completely understand your disappointment and frustration. We take your comments very seriously and will do everything in our power to regain your trust.

Verified reviewGood location, excellent if expensive food
Our room was tiny, which was not clear in the booking. It implied we would have a chalet type room
Thank you for your feedback. We're glad to hear that you found our location to be good and the food to be excellent during your one-night stay, even though you felt it was expensive. We sincerely apologize for the disappointment regarding the size of your room. We understand that you were expecting a chalet-style room and that the small size was a surprise. We strive to accurately represent our accommodations on all booking platforms and regret that we failed to meet your expectations on this occasion. Our chalets and rooms vary in size and style, and we will review our descriptions to ensure they are clearer for future guests. Your feedback is valuable to us, and we hope that despite the issue with the room, you were still able to enjoy your time in Chamonix. Sincerely, The Les Chalets de Philippe Team

Dear Guest, Thank you for sharing your feedback following your stay at Les Chalets de Philippe in Chamonix. We are truly sorry to hear that the room size and bathroom layout did not entirely meet your expectations. Our authentic, historic chalets offer a unique charm and immersion into the alpine nature, which sometimes comes with specific configurations. We take note of your comments as we continuously strive to enhance our guests' experience. You are absolutely right; Les Chalets de Philippe is a true haven of peace, close to nature and its splendor. Our privileged location, slightly set back from the bustle of Chamonix Mont-Blanc, is precisely what many visitors seeking calm and serenity appreciate. However, we understand that this might mean being a bit further from services and shops for others. We always aim to clearly indicate this aspect on our website so that our guests can plan their stay with full awareness. We hope that despite these points, you still hold beautiful memories of your time in our luxury hamlet hotel in Chamonix. The Team at Les Chalets de Philippe Hotel Restaurant & Spa

Verified reviewVery (!) characterful ‘quirky’ hotel in a haven of peace out of the bustle of Chamonix.
Although it was full of character it would benefit from some basic maintenance around the property. We stayed in Les Barrats, the shower door was broken. Railings on the stairs to the chalet need fixing. Having a hot tub for each chalet is a lovely idea but if it’s not hot when you arrive, unless you’re planning on staying up all night to heat it it’s pretty impractical. An extra 20 euro fee for the hot tub. 20 euros is a lot for a very basic limited breakfast…..no muesli to go with a yoghurt…. The gardener was weed whacking for about two hours during an otherwise peaceful evening. This perhaps could be done during the day when guests are out…..
Dear Guest, Thank you for sharing such a detailed review of your stay at Les Chalets de Philippe. We're delighted to hear that you appreciated the "very unusual" character of our property, describing it as a true haven of peace away from the bustle of Chamonix. We take your comments regarding property maintenance very seriously. We sincerely apologize for the issues you encountered with the shower door in your "Les Barrates" chalet and the condition of the stair railings. Your comfort is our top priority, and our maintenance teams will conduct immediate checks and repairs to ensure the quality of our facilities. Regarding the jacuzzi, we regret that it wasn't at the desired temperature upon your arrival. We strive to prepare them for our guests' arrival and will review our procedures to prevent this inconvenience. Access to the jacuzzi is indeed an additional charge, and we understand that the perceived value can vary. We are also truly sorry that our breakfast did not meet your expectations, particularly concerning the muesli. Your feedback is invaluable, helping us continuously improve our offering to be more varied and to meet the high standards we aim to provide. Finally, we apologize for the disturbance caused by the weeding work in the evening. This was an oversight on our part, and we will adjust the scheduling of these tasks to take place during the day, when most of our guests are out, to preserve the tranquility of your stay. We hope that despite these inconveniences, you will still keep pleasant memories of your time with us and that we will have the opportunity to fully regain your trust during a future visit to Les Chalets de Philippe in Chamonix. more on the go food - as the location is further out from the main city/any shops it would be good to have a ‘nibbles’ menu offering chips/pizzas and just some easy on the go food. However appreciate that may not be possible
Dear Guest, Thank you for your wonderful review! We're absolutely thrilled you found your stay "Brilliant and magical" at Les Chalets de Philippe. It means a lot to us that our team and/or owners were perceived as so charming and accommodating – that's truly what we strive for. We greatly appreciate your feedback regarding the food options, especially given our unique location, which offers peace and quiet a little further from the main town and shops in Chamonix. We understand the convenience of having more "grab-and-go" or "snack" items like fries or pizza available. While our current focus is on a more refined gastronomic experience at Alpine Garden Restaurant, your suggestion is valuable. We will certainly consider how we might be able to offer more flexible and easy dining options for our guests in the future, even if it requires exploring new possibilities. We hope to welcome you back soon for another magical experience in Chamonix!

Dear Guest, Thank you for your wonderful review! We're so pleased to hear you enjoyed the beautiful views and found our property to be a unique and charming place with original facilities in a lovely location here in Chamonix. Verified reviewAmazing place, traditional style, quirky hamlet of beautiful alpine buildings... super cute room with everything you could need, small but so cosy. Made you feel like Heidi with traditional mountain style, thick duvet and beautiful views. Absolutely loved having a little sauna next to the room and our own small, cute hottub. We were lucky to get a last minute, great deal on the room price but we live in the area and now we know of it we will definitely go again. The restaurant was closed the night we were there but would love to try it.
A small thing but the hottub outside the apartment below us came on frequently during the night.. on a cleaning cycle presumably... we had the windows open to enjoy the mountain air and forest sounds and the noise did disturb us, maybe the cycle could be turned off until the daytime? We loved the place despite this however....
