How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewQuirky apartment in an old building and the high ceilings offset slightly cramped living space (there were 6 of us). Well located near the opera house, hotel de ville and museum and with a number of very highly rated restaurants on doorstep (inc Michelin stars). Great transport links to rest of city through metro. Good value too.
Slightly cramped in kitchen area as there were 6 of us and we needed all the other space for beds inc. the mezzanine (best for children). Also, the bathroom is off the main bedroom which meant washing arrangements slightly awkward. The age of the property means no aircon but this was not an issue for us as we actually had a rainy night and fans also helped. Parking a challenge and can be very pricey in Lyon

Verified reviewWe had a wonderful stay at this apartment! The location is excellent – close to the city center but still quiet and comfortable. The apartment was very clean, well-equipped, and spacious enough for our family. The kids felt at home right away, and we appreciated the thoughtful touches that made our stay easy and relaxing. Communication with the host was smooth and friendly. A perfect choice for families visiting Lyon – we would be happy to come back!

Verified reviewThe apartment was extremely dirty - e.g. a bag of old and dirty sheets was in the cupboard and most of the apartment had not been cleaned (floors, surfaces, fridge), which was quite disgusting. Also, the apartment was run down and the kitchen badly equipped. Parts of the stove did not work. To top it all, we were asked for a 250 € deposit in case we break something. There was not much to break as most things were broken/worn out already.

Verified reviewWe felt the apartment had everything we needed for our stay including a couch, tv, dining table, all necessary cutlery and dishes and washing up liquid, however, a tea towel was not provided for drying was not provided. The owner has made great use of the space available. The shower is very good and modern with an overhead rainforest option or handheld shower hose - shower and sink are separate to the toilet. The location was very close to Hotel de Ville (City Hall) which has a metro station.
The loft where you sleep is difficult to get up and down via the stairs, you need to be careful to not hit your head. It is not possible to stand in the loft area, so it makes more sense to have somewhere to hang clothes downstairs, as you will likely get dressed downstairs in the living space. The apartment was on the 3rd floor, which is only accessible by stairs though we did not find this as problem but it may be important for others particularly with heavy suitcases. In this loft, there is no washing machine, however the neighbouring one does have one.

Verified reviewThe location of the property is close to old attractions in the city.
The place was infested with ants. The host indicated the cleaning staff didn't notice anything, which is hard to believe. The ants were on the counter in kitchen, the floor in the living room, the floor in the shower areas as well as all over the counter in the shower area.

The inventory instructions were not clear and were annoying.

Verified reviewLocation is perfect. Exceptional restaurants and bars on your doorstep, and easy access to everywhere including public transport. The apartment is attractive, modern, and overlooks the Rhone.
Little details like no coffee pods for the coffee machine, or dishwasher pods were disappointing.

Verified reviewPretty and clean. Great location - close to metro, shops and lovely area. The hostess was friendly but she only told us about the EUR 250 deposit required two days before we traveled when we were already on the plane with no WiFi. This should have been mentioned at the point of booking weeks before.

Verified reviewAmazing location, great neighbourhood. Loved the traditional building. Apartment spacious for 2 - nice linen /towels etc. Great shower. Access and Comms with the hosts all worked well
The conversion of a classic building into "loft-style" studio felt a little unfinished although perfectly functional

Verified reviewlocation is great, close to 2 metro lines and fine art museums the bed was not to confy but was not bad either; tv remote was not able to change channels and the host had no communication what so ever, they also need to add at least one more toilet paper roll since they are so small.

Verified reviewgreat location, decent kitchen facilities, good wifi
apartment was not as advertised on Booking.com, we expected a place on 1 level with parquet flooring. Instead we were allocated a mezzanine apartment with builder's OSB sheet flooring, and a bed upstairs. Access to the bed is via an unprotected stair which would not meet UK building regulations, and it is not possible to stand up properly around the bed area. Intermittent hot water so had to have a couple of cold showers

Lack of storage space meant that the little floor space was taken up by suitcases, but for a two night stay this was fine
