The price was too high for the quality of rooms. The first prestige room we checked into had a horrible smell. The staff switched our room and compensated us for the difference in level of rooms. The second room was not as smelly as the first at first but by our second night it started to smell similarly be likely due to drainage issues.

The staff was very professional and nice and friendly

A Charming Stay with Stunning Views at Mercure Monte Igueldo

The restaurant at Mercure Monte Igueldo was a bit of a mystery. The food was excellent, with delicious Basque dishes that arrived quickly once we ordered, making both dinners memorable. However, the lady running the restaurant - despite being very friendly - seemed out of her depth, which negatively influenced the rest of the staff. We waited 20 minutes just to get menus each time, and we saw other customers getting frustrated as well. Despite these issues, the food’s quality made it worth it.

We recently stayed at Mercure Monte Igueldo in San Sebastián with our daughter, booking two rooms for a memorable family trip, and overall, we had a wonderful experience. The hotel’s location atop Monte Igueldo is nothing short of breathtaking, offering panoramic views of La Concha Bay and the city below. The setting alone makes this hotel a gem, with its historic charm exuding elegance, particularly in the stunningly sophisticated lobby area, which feels like a step back in time. Our rooms were spacious, comfortable, and well-suited for our family, with large beds and ample space to relax. While the hotel’s exterior and some areas show signs of age, the old-world charm more than compensates, and the rooms were reasonably priced for such a prime location. The staff were consistently professional, friendly, and attentive, making us feel welcome from check-in to check-out. The pool area was a lovely spot to unwind, with stunning views enhancing the experience, though we found the poolside bar surprisingly pricey—a bowl of nachos cost €18, which felt steep. Despite this, the overall experience at Mercure Monte Igueldo was delightful, blending charm, comfort, and an unbeatable location. We’d happily recommend it to families and travelers seeking a unique stay in San Sebastián, just be prepared for minor service quirks at the restaurant.

The road to the hotel is always very congested due to ticket checks for the amusement park located on the hill. Hotel guests must always show their reservation and are admitted free of charge, but the queue of cars is very long and there's no way to avoid it, and it can take up to 30 minutes every time you return from the city.

This is an ordinary 3-star hotel, with rooms and balconies that are already a bit neglected. It hasn't been renovated for a long time which shows. The biggest asset of the hotel is the view. For this it is worth paying because it was one of the most beautiful waterfalls I have ever seen from the balcony. If you choose a room - it must be with a balcony and a view of the sea. Otherwise, it is not worth

Because the weather was awful we decided to eat at the hotel. This was a mistake! We ordered wine 2xturbot and a side order of fries. The fish looked fine on the outside so started eating then noticed most of the flesh inside was both translucent and red, so not properly cooked through ! . We called over server who took it away leaving us and cooling fries for 10-15 mins. The same pieces of fish then came back cooked and now dry. No apology at all made or any attempt to ask if it was fine now. So we ate our reheated fish and veg with our now cold fries. Again when the waitress came and collected our plates there was no apology or checking if our food had come back better just did we want to order coffee or desserts! When we delivered a perfunctory no thanks back the waitress laughed! Strange reaction we thought. Asked for the bill politely explained that the meal had not been satisfactory and that it would have been nice if they had replaced not reheated the badly cooked fish or at least given us hot fries with it. Again no reaction no apology just the €90 bill and a dodgy stomach for 2 days from eating partially cooked fish. The staff here need some proper training. This is not an acceptable way to run a high class expensive restaurant-and I assume that is how they would like to be perceived. For as little as an apology and a coffee on the house or hot fries I probably wouldn’t be writing this. The pool attendant does you a favour and passes you a towel if you ask 2-3 times but a drink from the bar there? No far too much effort

The location is as amazing as it looks in all the photographs and if you are lucky enough to secure a room with a balcony the views are some of the most amazing we have ever seen from a balcony. The lounge and bar areas are beautiful with floor to ceiling windows all around with plenty of space and comfortable seating. At the top Is a fabulous pool with inattentive staff but beautiful panoramic views across the whole area You are checked in and out in a perfunctory manner. It’s brusque but efficient.

Compared with almost any other hotel in San Sebastian area, this one is a bit outdated. Having a beer on the roof terrace must be the most pricey in the whole San Sebastian...;-)

Pool on the roof is very good. Top mark for that. Views from hotel to city / sea are very nice, particularly in the night time.

Be prepared to get lots of taxis if you want to go to town for dinner etc. no uber or taxi apps available and taxis aren’t cheap. Recommend getting funicular down and walking into town and then getting a taxi back.

Great views with lovely pool. Felt quite expensive for the stay though, didn’t eat here other than by the pool (food was good but vvv expensive). Room was comfortable but agree with reviews that parts could be updated, we did enjoy the balcony and views though.

We booked 2 rooms and one of them was the same as we had booked: with sea views and a balcony. But the other had only sea view (however, we booked with a balcony). Cons: The bad quantity of the rooms, they definitely need a renovation. There were no toothbrushes or toilet brushes (although a shoe brush was provided))

I would update the gym. It does not live up to 4-star hotel standard. And I would enhance the hygiene in the gym, e.g. provide disinfection wipes. The bar and breakfast restaurant is either understaffed or not trained properly.

We arrived 30 mins earlier than check in - and was not allowed to check in - I asked ok can we walk around the pool area while we wait ? No was the answer but not in a polite way. They kept saying it is only for guests. I advised that I would be a guest when you let me check in. No flexibility- and for this price you would expect better customer service

Clerk at the reception tried to downgrade our room with balcony to a room without balcony, lots of talks with her while she insisted she put us in a better room. That room was a solid downgrade from what we paid (75 euros a night downgrade). After two conversations of together 30-40 minutes, we got the room we had paid for. Then the clerk meant we were upgraded. Didn’t argue with her, as we were not upgraded, but got what I had paid for. Didn’t care for food there afterwards, apart from chicken and pizza at the pool, both ok, but a bit pricey. Otherwise, the staff were superb, the location is great.

The location is a plus and a minus. The views are incredible. It is easy to get down to the city when the funicular is running and taxis are usually fairly quick to come but the walk to the old town is approx 30-40 mins so depending on your fitness it may not suit everyone.

Lovely pool, amazing views, located close to beautiful beaches and reception staff were super helpful.

According to the description check in was possible at 15h. Rooms were not ready until 16h30 and we were not the only one. Check in also took a lot of time so there was a large line. And then to hear that the room is not ready and that you have to wait and come back again, is really ennoying. Specially when you are travelling with kids.
