Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomHad a one night stay in a private room for 2 adults & 2 kids. Kids loved the four poster bunk bed. Room was clean and had ensuite + aircon. Received a warm welcome from the hostel staff. Having read some mixed reviews before staying, I think some reviews confuse the hostel and the cafe bar. Staff in the hostel were really friendly. Evening staff in the cafe bar were also friendly. The guy running the cafe bar in morning must be the person who is generating all the reviews about rudeness. He certainly was rude and unhelpful about getting breakfast from there. Although he was a bit nicer when he realised we were hostel guests.

Philippinesthe airconditioning was not turned on, so it was hot at night. The owner (I'm assuming?) could also have been a little nicer.

SpainThe overhead shower worked well, but the handheld shower wasn’t functioning. It wasn’t really necessary for us, so it wasn’t an issue.
Excellent location. The Santander bus station is right across from the hotel, and the train station is actually in the same building. The hotel also operates one of the best bar-restaurants in the area, so you get an all-in-one package. All local buses stop just across the street, and intercity buses like ALSA make it easy to reach nearby cities. (Tip: the bus station’s -2 floor has spacious luggage storage lockers, only €4 per day.)

PhilippinesCheck in and check out process was unclear and reception feels non-existent. No flexibility whatsoever by the hostel to check in slightly early (like 30 mins not even more than hour), despite not having much guests at that time. No one was there during check out.
Very central easy to go around and since it's beside the train station and across the bus station day trips to other cities nearby is easier too. Beds were nice as well.

United KingdomSome of the staff in the bar cafe were not as friendly. For example, I was simply inquiring if there was a baggage store in or near the hostel. The guy behind the bar was rude and cut me off before I'd finished the question. I don't know whether they get people taking liberties often but I just wanted information. If you want to know :) there's a wonderful baggage store opposite downstairs in the bus station €4. Very useful.
Good, practical location. Friendly staff in the hostel.

AustraliaThe shower cubicles could be better equipped with hooks for hanging possessions inside them, and the exceedingly wet, hairy floor cleaned during peak times
Surprisingly clean, private, well equipped and quiet for a room with 12 beds

United KingdomNothing. Exceeded my expectations tbh.
Literally seconds away from the bus and rail stations, but still quiet and close enough for a stroll to the centre of town. The place is spotlessly clean and the staff are friendly and helpful. Great bar/restaurant at the front. If you’re in Santander on a budget, you should certainly try Hostel & Co.

Czech RepublicThe kitchen could be equipped a little better - I was missing some simple mugs for making my own tea. I was glad the electric kettle was there though. However, one of the staff members was kind enought to bring me a mug from adjacent restaurant.
Comfortable bed, perfect location - right at the train/bus station, walking distance to city center and the boat to Somo.

ItalyThe fact that you have to leave the hostel for the cleaning, which is common in that area, is a little uncomfortable. The bathroom wasn't always clean. It is located by the bus station, so there's weird people around.
The room was clean, with big lockers and curtains for each bed. The bathroom was big and there is a bar next to the hostel.

NetherlandsExcellent location opposite the bus stations and facilities. The bed bunks are the best I have ever experienced in hostels so far. Spacious, comfortable matras, more than sufficient storage and the curtain provides your privacy. The hostel has its own kitchen and hang out area, but part of El Hostel is the bar with good food, coffee and a pleasant atmosphere.

United KingdomFridge not working in the lounge area, so drinking warm beer. Shower is excellent once the hot water reaches the head, like the sign says, give it a couple of minutes before you get in. No where to put clothes while showering. Small niggles, don't let it put you off. Excellent for the small cost.
The sleeping pods with curtains give a lot more privacy than normal bunks. Has light and power outlet for charging. Nice and quiet. The lounge area was spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was good, excellent coffee and a sweet croissant or similar.
