I liked everything about this great place. Location was perfect. It’s pretty close to all the main venues in the city. Walking distance to all museums and El sol plaza. We also had the best host ever. Antonio was extremely friendly and helpful. He provided us with great information about the city and places to eat. The room was super comfortable and extremely clean. I highly recommend this hostal if you are looking for a wonderful and safe place to stay in Madrid. I am definitely coming back. It is my go to spot in Madrid.

The mattess was very hard and I did not like the long single pillow the width of the whole bed. A new mattress and smaller individual pillows would make it ten out ten.

No refrigerator, ice machine, etc. No "front desk". Tiny, 3/4 tub with shower wand and shower head. Felt expensive for what I got.

Excellent location in Madrid's Literary Quarter. Simple, but extremely clean, accomodation with private bathroom. Staff members were exceedingly kind.

We had to find a place to stay at the end of the Easter holidays, at very short notice when our private arrangements fell through. Fortunately, Hostal Gonzalo had one room available! We have stayed in other hostales in this street over the last quarter century, and it is our favourite part of the city, so we were very happy about this. The hostal is spotlessly clean and very comfortable, but the stand-out for us was the warm and friendly welcome and the kindness and courtesy of all the members of staff we met. We were not made to feel like strangers paying for a service, we felt really at home, surrounded by friends. This will be our first choice in future!

Spotlessly clean. Great location. Get the 203 train from the airport then a 10 minute walk to the hotel. It’s basic but the twin beds were comfortable and there was plenty of hot water for the shower. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

We didn't have a lock to the door, which made us take all our valuables with us every day and it was very inconvenient. We got a room with a double bed and another single bed. The double bed was a bit small and not the most convenient.

The owners are super friendly and nice!!! The location is amazing - close to the city center, but also, in the heart of an amazing neighborhood that is less familiar but we fell in love with it. The room was super clean. There are great Tapas Bars just around the corner.
