How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewWe've found this apartment to be well-kept and thoughtfully maintained. Situated right in the heart of the town, the location couldn't be more convenient- you're just steps away from shops, cafes, public transport. That said, its centrality comes with a little trade off: the evenings can get noisy as city sounds filter through. If you are sensitive to nighttime activity, a few ear plugs might be needed.
Our stay was enjoyable, but one issue prevented me from giving a fully positive review: the Wi-Fi signal was very weak, maxing out at only 14 Mbps. It noticeably impacted basic tasks like video calling and streaming. This is easily and affordably fixable. Installing a simple Wi-Fi extender would significantly improve the connection by strengthening the signal throughout the flat. Such a minor upgrade would make a big difference to guest comfort and connectivity.

Didn’t like the attitude of the agents. Wanted a £200 deposit, when there wasn’t £200 worth of equipment!

The apartment was very warm with no AC and we could hear everything from the street even with close windows. The mattress was very uncomfortable and noisy.

Lack of large towels for showering . Only supplied with one. A change of towels would have been nice and a tea towel to dry dishes .

Verified reviewThe location couldn’t have been better. Good facilities. The bed was comfortable and linen clean.
The floor throughout was dirty. We had to wear footwear all of the time otherwise the soles on our feet got so dirty. Slight smell of smoke inside on entry which lingered for a few days. No toilet rolls left for us to use. The bath towels were new, which was nice, but you couldn’t dry yourself with them as they needed washing first to they could absorb the water. The shower head needed replacing. The holes were clogged up with limescale which I tried to remove so we got a better supply of water. The light didn’t work on the balcony. A large frying pan was out back into the drawer and had not been washed. It would be useful to have a chair/stool in the bathroom and the bedroom to put clothes on.

1) The mattress wasn’t very comfortable; 2) no hairdryer meant we had to buy a new one. 3) although the location was good and central, it tended to be quite noisy at times but that’s obviously no fault of the hosts.

The property is small and comfortable for 2 people however they have few things go consider as an improvement. First was the cleanliness! Entire bathroom in general was bad. The shower was in really bad condition to my standard. The bathroom was not swept and moped thoroughly. Hair and dust was in all corners. Would’ve been really nice if there was some hand soap in the bathroom. The mop and broom left in the bathroom were really dirty too. The bed in the bedroom was very comfortable but from hygiene point not good. No mattress protector on. Fitted sheet so thin and full of fair. Two flat Sheets left to use as a blanket were stained. One duvet (also with a lot of hair on) left in the wardrobe without cover. Also would’ve been nice if there were some extra pillows. It will be nice to upgrade the coffee maker!

Verified reviewThe hosts were outstandingly helpful, making a personal visit to lend us with a much needed sun shade for the balcony.
Four flights of stairs was very difficult for my disabled husband. We were not warned of this. Booking was extra difficult with no clear notice that the first price given was for a sunless balcony facing north. Provisions were a bit sparce. I had to go out to buy rubbish bags and even a second cereal bowl.
