Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomI loved 4 Bears. It’s a small intimate hostel with great decor and a chilled vibe. Met some amazing people in the three days I spent there. Would definitely return on my next trip to Madrid.

United KingdomNot much space in the room once our luggage was in with us (though we were in a double with extra bed). Couldn't check in before 4pm but we were able to leave luggage in shared area, which was perfect.
Really clean, quirky and beautifully designed hostel. Loved all of the decor - had a warm, welcoming feel. Location was handy with short walk into the centre and just a few metres from Lidl & Carrefour supermarkets. Super, comfy bed and great air con in bedroom.

United StatesSharing a bathroom was an adjustment for my kids (waiting to take a shower), but I think we all thought it was worth it.
Location is great and the room is very clean and comfortable. Very hip and fun vibe. My teenage sons felt very comfortable here.

United KingdomPart of a hostel but the downside was there was one bathroom for 3 rooms so sometimes there was a wait for the bathroom. It wouldn’t put me off staying again though, one of the best hostels I’ve stayed in for a quiet clean stay!
Really clean facilities, quiet spaces and in a great location. They also organised evening drinks if you fancied it but it wasn’t so loud you could hear it from your room.

LatviaThe corner bed (nr 4) in the 10 people shared room didnt have good air flow
Cool place, very clean and pretty, awsome staff and good location. They also do wine nights once a week on random days, and we happend to be there then, got to talk to a lot of people and make new friends. Would stay again, 10/10 would recomend for group if friends or solo travelers. Tho keep in mind to bring a thicker lock for lockers, since the skinier ones didnt work.

United StatesAt check-in, the automatic lock at the door was broken (it had fallen off inside), but a call to the what's app number and someone came within a few minutes to let us in and repair the lock (a message did not do that, but the call was answered right away). The hostel is clean, newly renovated, and a great value. We loved the room with the net on top. It's tiny but unique

NetherlandsMany hostels allow you to leave your bags after when you check out - so that you don’t carry them the whole day. Since there was no receptionist, I was not able to request this. Also, the door opens with a code, so I wouldn’t be able to get in after I check out. Not really a place to meet new people, very quiet (also in a good way)
Shampoo, hair conditioner, toothpaste, and even make up remover and cotton were included. The 10-person room felt like less people because of the design of the room. Also I think they deliberately put women and men separated in the two sides, which was nice.

United StatesThe mattress was a little too soft for my taste.
Excellent location - 5 min walk to public transportation, 15 min walk to museums. Air conditioned room with everything you need - tiny space, but excellent efficiency. Great for active people who are exploring Madrid during the day and return to the room to rest and recharge for the next adventure.

IrelandThe shared bathrooms are in the dorm rooms, which is completely fine but can be inconvenient if someone spends a long time in there as there is only one - but the bathrooms themselves are immaculate. My light also would not turn off, but it’s only a strip light so not very bright - I recommend bringing an eye mask if that bothers you! These aren’t really issues to be honest, more just good to know!
Easy to find and super friendly staff who whilst aren’t physically present are so helpful and informative and happy to help with any requests. The curtain give you a great privacy that other hostels may not provide and it’s like having your own capsule room. There are cupboards in each bed unit where you can padlock (bring own padlock) any personal belongings. Towels and toiletries provided - they even had make up remover! The whole vibe of this hostel was cosy and aside from a slightly noisy sleeper in my room (that can always happen in hostels!) it was such a comfy nights sleep and I woke feeling refreshed!

It was perfect for a solo female traveller. The facilities were great (kitchen, solo area, big and clean bathroom, pod style bed rather than bunk bed in 4 person room). And it was very social and vibrant with activities to help people socialise in a relaxed way.

GreeceChoosing 4 Bears Sharehome was the best choice I could do. This beautiful hostel felt like home from the minute I checked-in. That happened because the place is designed beautifully and also the staff with their kindness and hospitality, really did everything possible to make me feel welcome. I would love to stay in this place again when I return to Madrid.
