Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesA little too formal in the dining areas. After a day out in Luxor, I had to change my shorts (not gym clothes or swimsuit) into pants just to eat.
during low season, we were able to get an early check-in. Which was good since our cruise was over, and the hotel is right in front of the mooring. The grounds are beautiful, the pool is great, and the staff was incredibly helpful - including helping us find a ride to the airport

EgyptSome parts feel a bit outdated, but honestly that's part of the charm
It was like stepping into a story. Beautiful Nile views, lush gardens, and that old-world charm. You can feel the history in every corner

SwitzerlandFacilities like a gym were missing. The bathroom floor would flood due to an issue with the bathtub. While checking out, informed the reception so they could fix it for the next guest. The response was not apologetic but rather 'you should have told us before and we would have fixed it'. Staff needs a bit more training.
The hotel has its charm and is in a beautiful location. It lacks amenities of a luxury hotel but a good place to stay for a night.

United KingdomThe drinks we had made for us were utterly revolting. Worst cocktails I’ve ever had in my whole life. Please teach your staff how to make delicious drinks. The slow and sometimes non existent service at the pool. Unfortunately the food at the Corniche restaurant was really sad. Beautiful venue, sad food. We decided not to even bother with 1886 because of it and ate again at the garden bbq. The constant shouting and blasting of sermons and prayers on megaphones is INCREDIBLY off putting to guests. It disrupted my sleep the whole time I was there and then it disrupted my enjoyment of Luxor the whole time I was there. Please resolve this because we did not experience it as badly anywhere else in Egypt. Also the front of the winter palace should be pedestrianised. The constant noise outside is off putting. I felt really scared once I stepped out onto the streets of Luxor, there’s a lot of scammers, judgmental comments and outdated behaviour. It really upset me. Please reopen the gym and if possible offer spa/massages. Please advise your guests to be careful at eating at The Fish House, I got very sick from eating there and had a stomach infection that is still here 2 weeks later. Please update the shops downstairs and in front of the hotel, they’re so outdated and selling products nobody needs or wants. It needs updating and bringing into 2025. I wanted to buy things but just couldn’t find anything worth buying. The horrible looking shisha section is an eyesore. It looks so dated. You have stunning gardens so why not just have soft lighting and comfortable chairs for people and get rid of the weird looking statues and posters. It detracts from the beauty of the whole place and it horrible to look at.
The winter palace is stunning and our Nile view room was amazing too. The staff are so friendly and welcoming. The garden bbq was exceptional. Fresh salads and fresh food, really made me happy to be eating there. The fresh flowers every day made me feel so so happy and was such a nice touch. The way concierges handle all requests was top notch. The food at the pool restaurant was good. Excellent service from the young gentleman on the promenade serving sunset drinks. The pools and gardens are excellently maintained. We really liked our tour guide Jacky. The tours were excellent and so well organised.

United KingdomPool area is fab. Problem is the recently added Pavillion annexe means it can be a bit crowded at peak times.
Fabulous colonial British culture celebrated here. Carter Carnarvon Noel Coward have all visited. Very comfortable. Top quality food. Staff are top quality at all levels. All this set in botanical gardens and late Victorian grandeur. Do not miss it if you're Luxor.

United KingdomThe Nile-facing rooms can be a bit noisy, but the sturdy old windows do a good job shutting out the hustle and bustle. Disappointing to see peacocks caged rather than free to wonder the gardens.
The Old Winter Palace (don't confuse with the new one!) is a grand old colonial-era hotel in a perfect location along the Nile Corniche. The place drips with history and has a variety of restaurants and bars in which to relax. The gardens are beautifully maintained and very pleasant to wonder through. Staff were brilliant, hands down.

United KingdomThe hotel does need some new paint in places. Meals are incredibly expensive but quite average. We did not go to the French restaurant though so that might be different.
A hotel full of character and history with a fantastic location in Luxor. Staff were very nice. We had a room with a small balcony and a view on the Revier Nile and that was fabulous.

This was our third stay at the Winter Palace. Need to say more? Okay! Historic hotel. Superb location. Oasis of comfort and style. Gorgeous building and garden. Love the bar. Perfect choice for sightseeing on the East Bank. Breakfast in the room before heading off to Karnak Temple at 6am to beat the crowds. Excellent hotel!

South AfricaThe old school charm of this beautiful old hotel cannot be replicated. The staff were all excellent and were clearly genuinely invested in us having a wonderful stay. The bed was extremely comfortable and the location on the Nile was fantastic! In the evenings there was live music in the bar. The pool is hard to beat in Luxor. We had a fantastic stay!

United StatesReview: Sofitel Winter Palace, Luxor, Egypt Our stay at the Sofitel Winter Palace in Luxor was nothing short of extraordinary. This hotel, a converted 19th-century winter palace, exudes a timeless elegance that transports you to a bygone era. While the term “palace” may evoke images of castles or fairy-tale grandeur, the Winter Palace is instead a magnificent example of refined luxury—a stately, grand residence steeped in history and charm. Location and Grounds Nestled on the banks of the Nile, the property boasts expansive grounds featuring some of the most exquisite gardens we’ve ever seen. These meticulously maintained gardens are a true highlight, creating an oasis of tranquility in the heart of Luxor. Whether strolling among the lush greenery or relaxing by the inviting pool, we found the outdoor spaces to be a perfect complement to the hotel’s regal interiors. Timeless Elegance The Sofitel Winter Palace retains much of its late 19th- and early 20th-century character, making it a visual delight. The hotel’s interiors are filled with elegant touches: opulent chandeliers, richly crafted furniture, and intimate, atmospheric spaces. The bar, with its dark wood and leather furnishings, evokes the era of the British Empire, offering a warm and nostalgic ambiance. The vast salon area—a grand room reminiscent of a scene from Downton Abbey—is a place where you want to linger, read, or simply soak in the history. Nearly every corner of the hotel invites you to stop and take a photo, capturing its timeless beauty. Accommodations and Dining Our room, overlooking the Nile, was equally charming, blending classic design with modern comforts. The sunsets over the river were magical, and we spent our evenings on the front veranda, enjoying drinks and watching the day fade away. The hotel features a highly regarded French-style restaurant with a formal dress code, which we regrettably did not have the opportunity to try.

United KingdomI don’t usually write anything here but this is a note to other travellers. The minibar does not work like any other hotel we have ever been to - they do NOT stock it or apparently take note of what you have used! We certainly did not realise this until paying the final bill and making the assumption items used had been added. Unfortunately the receptionist was not too kindly when the error was discovered. It would be great if the hotel made this more obvious than it was - unfortunate end to a fab stay.
Great hotel in a fabulous location and full of history. Lovely room with balcony, staff so kind and helpful. Breakfast was excellent with so much choice. The swimming pool area was a great place to spend time and again staff so helpful. The view from our rooms was exceptional - looking across the Nile to the hills beyond. Also very central for the temples and Valley of The Kings.
