Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

CanadaJust two general words to the wise concerning the hotel: 1.If you arrive after 8 PM at night, Old Town feels more like Ghost Down. Do not despair, when the sun rises, so does the neighborhood. For night life, make a b-line for La Ronda. It's around a 5-10 minute walk away. 2. Entering and exiting hotels in Ecuador is hit and miss. You need to rely on staff being at the desk to let you in and out. I am guessing this is for your security. Press the orange button on your right for access. Though a little anxiety provoking at first, once you get used to it, it's no biggie. They are usually there within minutes. A more general word to the wise. Beware of pickpockets. The massive police presence provides a false sense of security.
This hotel generally lives up to the positive reviews. Central location, friendly and helpful staff, historic character and charm. The rooftop offers memorable and moving panoramic views of the city.

Breakfast was comparable to all breakfasts in Ecuador. Historical building in great location. Friendly & helpful staff. Stored luggage for us whilst visiting Galapagos. Great town with lots of history. Roof top viewing platform

United KingdomBreakfast was quite sparse, only eggs and a roll, with a slice of ham and cheese available as well as a tea, coffee or juice.
It was super close to the historical central of the town, the metro and restaurants! The staff were super friendly and helpful especially as we arrived just after 4 in the morning. Check in was easy!

SwitzerlandThe breakfast was a little basic and could use more variety & offer more options , having said that it was adequate to start the day.
Location was superb, 5 minutes walk main square and lots of places to eat, chocolate tastings and historic buildings. Also a very short walk to the Metro. Staff are very sweet and helpful. Building is authentic and the roof terrace was a nice bonus.

United StatesThere were others in the hotel who equally enjoyed the courtyard in the center of the hotel and it made for a loud evening as we tried to fall asleep.
The location of hotel was very convenient. From our room we walked all over old town. The staff were also very kind. The courtyard was lovely and we enjoyed the greenery.

AustraliaNo heating in the room, I asked for an extra blanket and was accommodated but if you are someone who really feels the cold badly this could make for an uncomfortable stay. It would also be great to have kettle to warm up at end of day.
Staff were very helpful although my lack of Spanish meant that a couple of things were mixed up but the staff were quick to help when we realised. Close to historic centre, supermarket and atm, I was glad because I did feel uneasy walking around on my own. I also booked two, one day tours through the hotel, this seems to be common practice.

United KingdomThe hotel is in a great location in the Historic centre. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was good and the room was clean, comfortble and plenty of hot water. The only downside to my room was it was quite dark as there was no window only a sky light. They could also provide coffee making facilities in the room as you are not able to purchase a drink in the hotel.

CanadaBreakfast was from 7-9. I had an early tour starting at 7 so missed out. Perhaps starting a bit earlier cuz I imagine a lot of people book tours.
A cute hotel in a perfect location. Staff was very friendly and arranged taxi service for me. Breakfast was fabulous. I had an issue with the door lock and they immediately changed me to a different room. Highly recommend

CanadaOur room didn’t have windows to look outside. The pictures show lamps and chairs and area rugs and all the things that make a room feel warm and inviting — but ours was sparsely furnished and felt more like a dorm story bedroom. Not very rich and inviting.
The building and history is incredible!! Garden courtyard and eating in the basement dungeons was really nice. Lovely small breakfast included in the room rate. Nice staff.

United KingdomNo hot water for the shower but I didn't report this at the time, so can't really complain.
The hotel is beautiful and has an interesting history. It has a rooftop with astonishing views of the city and a really nice restaurant nearby, that was recommended by Jimmy on reception. He was very helpful as I was quite unwell due to altitude. It was quiet at night once the daily hubbub of the city had gone.

Great location in the old colonial town so easy walking distance to sights, churches, squares, restaurants n shops. Very old building with quirks including steep staircases n rooms without windows but do have skylights. Helpful reception staff. Smallish n darkish room n tiny bathroom. Good security at front door. Ok breakfast downstairs.

CanadaThe morning breakfast was not particularly good to my taste. They tried hard with fruit and eggs but had no toast only croissant The juices each day seemed to be watered down. Due to the building being so old some rooms had a 10 inch approx step to get into the bathroom re plumbing in an old building The large cement stairs going to upper floors had no railing whatsoever and made it difficult for seniors to use. Had to hold onto the wall. Again due to age of place there was no way to get to the reception desk because it had no phone system at all. I had no phone plan so was unable to let reception know my needs as they came up. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout my 4 day stay
The lobby was beautifully done in a very old building. The staff were friendly and helpful. Great area close to many things. The Hop On Hop Off buses the many churches and cathedrals and great restaurants as well as neighbourhood stores walkable area.

United StatesNo elevators. We got there at the end of our 10 day trip and our legs were sore from all the hiking. We also climbed the Cathedral. When we got back to the hotel every night we had to climb more steps.
Great location in the middle of the beautiful historic center of Quito, walking distance to all must-see sights. Great old world feel with an interesting history. Tasty breakfast and courteous staff.
