How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewLovely location for walks in the forrest and exploringing Saxon Switzerland. The hotel has some old fashioned charm. The rooms are basic but clean and comfortable. The breakfast was great - although 500m away.
This is basically a pension with no facilities, which is associated with a 4* hotel 500m away. In October many facilities were closed. The only place for lunch was an open air kiosk with indiferrent service and basic food. Lights werent working in our bathroom and it would take a week for them to find someone to fix it. We were charged 4* hotel rates at over EUR 250 per room off season, for 2* pension facilities. Breakfast was also 500m away in the main hotel. The restaurant in the main hotel was good, but the menu was very limited. One starter, one soup and 3 main courses to chose from.

Verified reviewThis Hotel is situated in a restored historical Water mill and has only 9 rooms. The mill still works and bread from it is served at breakfast and dinner. You have to walk to the restaurant for breakfast and dinner around 10 minutes from the Mill, but that doesn't really bother, because the views of Elbe river along the way are stunning. Our room was not big, but had a balcony and with open windows you could hear the Stream running right underneath your building. That was very cute and calming. There's also no elevator, if that might be important to you. The system of Bio-hotels consist of several hotels, so the reception is in a separate building and so is some part of SPA. Sauna and open air jacuzzi along with water vats to relax in are in the Mills' yard, which is very convenient. Local brewery is also next door. Dinner consists of 4 courses every day, made in their 'bio'- concept. The cost of staying was rather high, but the hotel had a few really nice surprise bonuses, like local transport tickets and free Gluwein cards. There are also 'rituals' including bakery excursion and spa time that are free of charge for guests. Those can be found during check-in. I liked the 'bio' concept of the hotels and Schmilka village itself - it's a very cosy place on the bank of the river with nice trekking opportunities. You could also go the the Czech side of the Saxon Switzerland by bus, train (if the ferries are working) or by foot (around 45 min walk to closest Czech village). We were staying there around Christmas time, but the weather was not snowy, so I can't say anything about Winter Wonderland. Like in many places in Germany that time, Elbe was out of its' banks, so most of the ferries didn't work.
Unfortunately, we didn't get the Mill and bakery excursion on our last day - we checked in, but no one came to the meeting point. If you want to visit the famous Bastai bridge, that might be tricky. It's about an hour by public transport. Plus, the weather conditions might be bad - for example, we couldn't get to the right side of the river from the train station because of high water and non-functional ferries.

Verified reviewIt is a lovely hotel in an idyllic location, surrounded by beautiful nature. The house is walking distance to the Elbe river. It features the wellness area with sauna and the bier garden right next to the house. Our booking included breakfast which was very nice as well. It was in another location with the terrace outlooking the river. There was no Wi-Fi in the room, which is intentional, but you can catch free Wi-Fi in the restaurant and beer garden , if needed. It was a very relaxing stay and we loved it! Thank you!
The only thing that was maybe not necessary was the tv in the room. It is a bio hotel. No Wi-Fi in the room, which is good. Then the tv is also not needed.

Verified reviewSchmilka is a small gem, breakfast in the Helvetia hotel is superb. The room was clean and the bed comfortable. Super hiking routes stary almost at the doorstep and Schmilka has super coffee places, bars. Dinner and breakfast is recommended - they both were fabulous in Helvetia.
If you have heavy luggage, it is not convenient, as the hotel has no elevators, but a great stairway to climb. Some balconies are not what you see in the pictures in the front of the hotel, they look to the sides and are not as “inviting”. The shutters in the bathroom were a bit see through, which was not so comforting, although in the dark you only see shades through.
