How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewGreat room, super location, real cleanliness, nice lobby,
The only small problem was the intense smell just outside the hotel doors. I guess it came from a large "vault" that's in front of it. I think there's a public garbage collection spot or something like that.

Verified reviewThe hotel was very central and within walking distance to all of the sight seeing attractions. The windows were triple glazed and when closed blocked out any noise from outside. The room was spacious enough and clean.
I would prefer tea and coffee facilities but for the price you can't grumble.

Verified reviewThe Motel One design hotel concept is fantastic. Despite the small rooms, you still feel like you're getting a good value due to the quality of the experience within the hotel. The friendly staff when arriving in a big city is most appreciated. The gin bar menu concept was awesome.
The location on Dircksenstraße is a little rough and there was a foul smell directly outside the hotel while we were in town, but there's not much the hotel staff can do about that. It is Berlin after all.

Verified reviewThe location of the hotel is top notch! We had a front room with a great view of the famous TV tower. Really easy to travel to most places directly from Alexanderplatz. Hackescher Markt up the road had some lovely restaurants and atmosphere, and was a great place to grab a coffee in the morning and watch the world go by. The room was clean and toiletries provided smelled lovely. Very comfy beds. We liked the option of standard or ambient lighting, and the wardrobe set up (although compact), was perfect for a city break.
Staff weren’t overly friendly on check in, but bag drop was handy. The room was tiny compared to what I expected from the photography! It really looks more spacious with photography tricks. Bathroom was particularly small, but have to say the shower was fab. Our air con didn’t work and we came in August, it made noise but no effectiveness. Did not mention to staff as we worked around by opening the huge windows often.

Verified reviewI have stayed in many hotel brands but I think that Motel 1 is the most consistent across their properties. Brilliant staff, comfortable rooms, very clean and mostly good value. This hotel was no different.
Nothing to dislike.

Verified reviewVery clean and comfortable. The staff very friendly and helpful. Close to the Museums and the cathedral.
The street of the hotel is very dirty. Of course it is not the fault of the hotel, but I didn't feel save on the street outside and it smelled a lot of garbage from under the nearby bridge. Maybe an appeal to the local authorities to clean the area would help. Otherwise in the hotel itself all was great.

Verified reviewIt’s a good location. The room is very small.
I would like to share my recent experience during check-in at your hotel, which I found disappointing and stressful. When I arrived, the staff member named Aaron was unable to locate my reservation. It took approximately five minutes before he finally found it. During this time, I was already feeling tired from my journey, and when I asked him for alternative solutions in case the booking couldn’t be found, he remained silent and offered no assistance. Once the reservation was located and I proceeded to pay for the room, Aaron tore off the credit card slip in front of me in a manner that felt unnecessarily rude. Throughout the interaction, he did not smile or express any apology for the inconvenience caused. I believe Aaron would benefit from further training in customer service and emotional intelligence. A more empathetic and professional approach would have made a significant difference in my experience. Thank you for taking the time to consider this feedback. I hope it helps improve the service for future guests.
