How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

'Free minibar' is just a welcome coke and water. Wasn't really expecting any more, but just say that rather than dressing it up as something more. Parking is expensive, although we did know this in advance so can't complain. Requested one room as a twin room for the kids but were given a double room. Didn't raise this as we were only there 1 night.

Verified reviewStaff at reception provided incorrect parking information, confirming it was safe to park outside the hotel. Despite this explicit confirmation, my car was towed overnight, resulting in severe documented costs (towing fees, city fines, taxi expenses). This poor advice from hotel staff severely impacted my stay and created unnecessary stress and expense. The hotel's response was professionally inadequate. Management refused all accountability while simultaneously admitting they would implement additional staff training - effectively acknowledging their advice was wrong. They offer parking guidance to guests but disclaim responsibility when that guidance proves costly. Professional hospitality standards require either competent advice or honest admission of limitations with alternative solutions. The hotel failed basic service standards: accurate information provision, adequate staff training, and accountability for employee errors. Their reliance on legal disclaimers rather than service recovery shows disregard for guests who suffer financial consequences from staff mistakes.

We had a rather regrettable experience at Meliá Aachen. Before arrival, we tried calling several times (5 calls) to confirm our reservation details, but no one picked up. Once at the hotel, we were given our keys and went to the room, only to find an insect on the bed (photo attached), hair on the bathroom floor, and a general lack of cleanliness. When we brought this to the reception’s attention (with photos), the staff member reacted in an apathetic way. His comments were along the lines of: “This is Germany in the summer, maybe a window was open” and “What do you want me to do? Come there and take it myself?” While we understand that insects can enter rooms, what was disappointing was the lack of empathy and unwillingness to provide solutions. This left us feeling more upset than the insect itself. Breakfast was decent, although a bit overpriced for what was offered. The views, however, were lovely. During checkout, when we explained everything again to a different receptionist, she was more understanding and kindly offered a 15% discount. While we hadn’t been looking for compensation, this gesture was appreciated. Overall, the experience left much to be desired, and the service did not meet the standards we expected.

Verified reviewQuiet location about an eight minute walk from the Altstadt. The Hauptbahnhof is considerably further, so best to get an Uber. The room was an adequate size. The bathroom was a bit unusual, and there was a separate toilet. The breakfast was great, although there was always a queue for the coffee machine!
The air-conditioning was noisy and it wasn't at all obvious how to control the temperature. There was a weird dial thermostat on the wall that had absolutely no temperature marks! I would have preferred the traditional bathroom arrangement.
