How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe location is very good, breakfast was tasty (and included in the price), and the overall atmosphere was calm and relaxing.
For newcomers, a few things to keep in mind: Check-in starts only from 4 pm, which was a surprise for me (after travelling to nearly 40 countries, I hadn’t experienced this before). Guests with a German address need to pay an €11 membership fee, while non-German addresses pay €3.50 per night. There is no private parking, only street parking nearby but it's good 6 euro per day. Soap is not provided in the bathroom, so it’s good to bring your own.
Hello Sujith, thank you for your review of your stay at our hostel. We're pleased that you enjoyed the location and atmosphere of our hostel and that you have fond memories of our breakfast. Check-in from 4 p.m. is openly communicated on our website and on all booking portals, so it shouldn't be a big surprise upon arrival. Membership fees and associated fees are also openly communicated, but this information is in the fine print on booking. We have no influence on this, however, as the text is set by booking itself. Our guests have access to a few parking spaces directly at the hostel. These can be reserved online or through our reception before arrival. If all spaces are full, there are plenty of parking spaces available in the underground garage of the neighboring office complex or in the streets surrounding the hostel. And a daily rate of €6 for a prime downtown location is quite fair in our opinion. Perhaps we'll see you again on your next visit to Dresden; we would be delighted. The team at the Dresden Youth Hostel

Verified reviewLocation, shower, friendly staff
I don’t think that it was worth money at all. Rooms on the photos looked a little better than what we got. Noise isolation is not that good, we heard everything what people were talking outside very clearly. We were placed on the very end of the building where the construction work was going on, so all looked very dirty and not presentable. Breakfast was quite small and not enough for all people. They didn’t even have normal coffee…

Verified reviewClose to the old town - you can pretty much walk everywhere No disturbances during the night
Shower head wasn't working well No body gel inside the shower - had to open the shower every now and again to squeeze out the gel provided above the wash basin Floor towel and big towel was provided, but hand towel missing Don't expect a peaceful breakfast experience - chaos in the little buffet (real size cleverly avoided in photos) but I guess it's normal with so many teens Asked for gluten free bread and it didn't come If you can get a cheaper place, have breakfast at a baker's (Bäckerei) of which there are plenty everywhere
Hello Michal, thank you for the feedback on your visit. You could have reported the malfunctioning shower head to us; we would have been happy to resolve the issue. It's not exactly common practice for a youth hostel to provide shower gel as standard amenities. In our opinion, a large bath towel and a floor towel are sufficient to meet all your showering/washing needs. For sustainability reasons, we do not provide an additional towel, but you would have been welcome to borrow one from reception. We are not trying to mislead anyone by publishing images that are supposed to represent a different room size. Everything we do is real—even the photos. We've never had a single complaint about this, by the way... When our hostel is fully booked, it can sometimes take a little longer to serve our lavishly stocked buffet, especially if many guests want to have breakfast at the same time. Unfortunately, we are not yet in a position to conjure up an additional room if needed. And when it comes to the selection at the buffet, we have no reason to hide behind anyone. We apologize for the lack of gluten-free bread. We always have it in stock (as well as gluten-free rolls), but apparently we simply forgot about it at that moment. Verified reviewI was very happy to have a single room at this price. The front desk was very helpful.
The breakfast was rich, but there were many people. There are a lot of guests, so the corridors are a bit narrow.
Hello Chen, we appreciate your positive feedback – thank you for that! We're glad the price was right for you and that you have fond memories of our staff and breakfast. Yes, when our hostel is busy, it can get a little crowded in the hallways during peak breakfast hours. However, the "congestion" quickly clears within a few minutes. The membership fee if you're not a person with the ID from the organization. But nevertheless its just few euros and they are in 50%off.
Hello Galvez, thank you for the great feedback! We appreciate your kind words about our friendly staff and the generous breakfast! Membership is required to stay at a German youth hostel. Hello Angelique, thank you so much for the great feedback! We're delighted that you felt so comfortable with us and that you compare our breakfast to that of a star hotel. Our chefs are delighted! As you correctly noted, we have a lot of young people staying with us in the summer. Things can get a bit hectic from time to time, which is quite normal at that age. But as long as you had some peace and quiet in the evenings, everything was fine. We would be delighted if you would recommend us to others, and we look forward to seeing you again soon! Verified reviewWhat I like the most is the breakfast. It was rich with a lot of varieties. The food was pretty fresh. The bread was toasted and crunchy. I suspect that they make their bread. The location is very central. It's just two stops away from the main train station.
The room was very small. I didn't like the bed at all. There were two single beds in the room. I was looking for a big twin bed. The beding was very basic. There was no real mattress but a foam one. The room furniture was very basic with a table two chairs and a wardrobe. The whole facilty is full of teenagers. They can be boisterous and loud, running up and down the hallway and stairs. If you are very sensitive about noise, this environment could be challenging for you. There was also some type of construction work going on right outside of my windows. So there was extra loud noise that I tried to keep out by shutting my windows.
Hello Frey, thank you for your feedback on your visit to our hostel. We're pleased that you enjoyed our location and that you were able to start your day well with our delicious and varied breakfast. Sorry that you apparently couldn't sleep very well. Double beds are rare in youth hostels. Most hostels, including ours, only have single beds. The mattresses meet the standard, but of course, they're not comparable to those in a star-rated hotel. It's common for a youth hostel to have many children and teenagers staying with them. And they love to express their zest for life and their thirst for discovery. Of course, we try not to let things get completely out of hand, but that's primarily the responsibility of the students' teachers. Our night auditor regularly monitors the quiet hours at night, but unfortunately, they can't be in every part of the hostel at the same time. Yes, our building is currently being renovated and modernized. The resulting construction work occasionally causes more noise than we'd like. The most noisy work was completed two days ago, so things are now quieter in the building again. Perhaps you can see for yourself how far the construction work has progressed on your next visit and, above all, that it's nice and quiet in the building again ;-). Lack of noise isolation, Looked like a prison
Hello Bruno, thank you for the brief review of your stay. Due to ongoing renovations, parts of the building may be a little noisier than usual during the day. The noise-intensive work should be completed in the next few days. We can't do anything about the exterior of our building—after all, it dates back to 1974... As already mentioned, the renovations inside will create a more comfortable atmosphere. The team at the Dresden Youth Hostel.

Hello Merlin, Thank you for the brief feedback on your visit to our hostel. Unfortunately, this means we cannot accommodate individual preferences. We hope you still had a reasonably restful night with us. The team at the Dresden Youth Hostel.
