How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

The place was not cleaned well enough—there were cobwebs hanging in the corners of the walls. It was evident that there was a mold problem on the walls; in the room it had been painted over, but in the bathroom it was clearly visible near the window. There was no hand soap in the bathroom, and the hairdryer, which was listed as part of the amenities, was missing. We only received it by chance when we happened to meet a staff member. In the morning, I wrote to the property staff about these issues, but no one responded to the message. One last remark: the bed was supposed to be a double, but we received two single beds placed next to each other.

Verified reviewI contacted them in advance to let them know when I would arrive. I got an email with instructions, so check-in was easy. The location was also good, close to public transportation, yet not on a busy main street.
My whole time there, I never saw any staff except for one cleaning lady shortly. In their advertising, the pictures let you believe you have a small kichenette where you can fix at least breakfast. Getting there, I find a very small kitchen area with nothing but a water kettle, a refrigerator guests are not supposed to use, and a sign informing me that fixing or eating meals there is not allowed. That is NOT FAIR! What is one supposed to do for breakfast??? Also, the bed was so high that there was a little step ladder to use to get up into the bed. Why?? On the next floor up above the bed, there must have been a sink or shower or something similar. The walls were not well insulated, so often I heard the sound of running or dripping water so close, I was wondering when I would get wet - fortunately, that did not happen. In a corner by the window, there was spider web, and the floor did not seem very clean. For what I paid, I expected something better than what I got.

Verified reviewThe location is great and check-in was easy. Generally the room was in order and the beds were comfy. Although I booked the place pretty last minute and it saved us, it's not worth the money I paid for it. We found hair in the bathroom, the towels looked washed but smelled strange, water inside the soap dispenser - I would not expect that from a hundred plus euros place. But I digress.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS The room was incredibly dirty even after the cleaner came back into the room. The bed linen is at least 20 years old and full of holes. But what shocked me most was the bad service. I got out of the shower with wet hair and tried to use the hairdryer. It turned out to be broken. I couldn't leave the hotel with wet hair at 4 degrees. The reception was no longer manned at 4 p.m. on a Saturday. So I contacted the hotel by phone and explained my problem. On the other end I was told I was "out of luck" because no one would be there until Monday. I asked the lady if she would let me go out as a guest with wet hair in winter temperatures and she said I could knock on other rooms and ask there. I have never felt so badly treated as a guest in an accommodation. In addition, a few things were pretty wrong: - lukewarm shower didn't get hot - woken up at 6 a.m. by loud footsteps above the room - everything was dusty and moldy
