Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

SwedenThe parking is small behind the hotel but it's a small dislike and not something to discount the hotel for.
The location, the staff, the view of the room, the amenities, everything was perfect. Would love to come back.

I like Bad Reichenhall, It is a very cozy and picturesque place. Even if there weren't so many tourists oriented points around, I'd be getting pleasure just walking through this town. I like the Avalon hotel: its kind stuff, its cozy cafe on the ground floor, its warm atmosphere, and many, many other small things that leave a very pleasant impression. I'd especially express my thanks for disconnecting the rain detector from the marquis management system. This year, I had a chance to have a cigarette looking at the beautiful mountain view sitting on the balcony while it was raining..

United KingdomNot sure there is a spa area or sauna, if there was it wasn't clear where this was in the hotel. There are only a few light snacks available in the evening and no meals in the hotel bar. The venting machine only takes coins, which isn't very useful if you don't carry much cash.
Large, clean and modern rooms with stunning views from the balcony over the mountains. Free parking on site. The city card they gave us meant we could travel on the bus and train for free to Salzburg and also discounts on local attractions. Great location for the main station and a short walk from the city centre.

United StatesThere is no restaurant on the premises that serves lunch or dinner or room service if that matters to you. The bathroom does not have a tub/shower combination only a shower if that matters to you. Underground parking garage (for a fee) is a bit quirky insofar as it requires an elevator (lift for my British cousins).
This was my second stay at this hotel. The first stay was in October 2024. As usual, the staff was stellar. Every request and inquiry was acted upon with a cheerful smile and prompt efficiency. They delivered 100% especially when I needed it the most. The hotel is situated across the street from the Bad Reichenhall Bahnhof (train station). No worries since the hotel has excellent soundproofing. The public areas along with the room itself were immaculate. The bathroom had all the expected amenities including hair dryer, soaps and a towel warmer. The A/C runs well and can be adjusted. There is an Aldi supermarket and a store specializing in health products and cosmetics nearby. An Italian pizza restaurant is across the street (order the spinach and salmon pizza), and a Bavarian restaurant is a few blocks away. The Avalon is a family-owned and run business so you get that special attention you can’t get at a chain hotel. I highly recommend this property.

I'd say just a boring hotel, but not in bad way - everything was ok, you got everything you might need, for the price - I like it. Breakfast very basic, but tasty, with vegetables, few bread types, fruits and nice cake. Staff was friendly, everything was clean.

United StatesNot much to dislike about this hotel to be honest. It offers underground parking for a fee which is typical for most hotels in Europe. It’s situated downtown where space is at a premium so access to the parking facility is by elevator (lift) not a ramp. The parking entrance is at the side of the hotel. You need to scan your hotel card to open the gray garage door. The green light will prompt you to enter the elevator. Turn off the car’s ignition and press the button to take you down to the lower garage level (-1). Parking spaces are a bit tight so don’t bring a big car. Exiting the garage is simple. Pull on the rope suspended from the ceiling and the garage door will open. It’s all a bit quirky; but you get used to it. The only real complaint is that the hotel doesn’t have a circular drive in front of the hotel where you can park and unload your luggage. There is a small parking lot across the street where you can park temporarily while you check in.
Avalon is a downtown hotel that delivers 100% on everything it promises. Our room was modern and impeccably clean. The carpet was new and spotless. Unlike what you find in the typical Bavarian Gasthaus, the shower, counter, mirror and bathroom fixtures were updated and modern. Toiletries were luxurious. A wide ledge runs along the wall that’s convenient for storing cosmetics etc. We didn’t hear our neighbors so noise abatement between rooms is excellent. The staff is kind and helpful. Breakfast is buffet style with a decent variety of cheeses, meats and pastries that you typically find in a German hotel. You can special order eggs and bacon from the waitress. An interesting feature about this hotel is that the doors in the public areas of the hotel open automatically when you approach them. Great when you have your hands full of luggage. Climate change has reached Germany too, and recent summers have been quite hot. Fortunately, the Avalon is fully air-conditioned, a rare treat. The hotel is located across the street from the main Bahnhof (train station) so it’s super convenient for those who don’t want to rent a car. The hotel provides free discount coupons for local attractions. If you want to sample Bavarian food there’s an amazing restaurant situated two blocks behind the hotel. I believe it’s called the Wiesenen. Try their mixed salad it’s to die for. There’s an Aldi supermarket down the street. The main shopping area is a 10 minute walk away. We loved this hotel so much that we are planning to return next July. The hotel offers coupons for reduced fares for return customers.
