How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewExcellent facility, saunas and pool with countercurrent - excellent morning exercises! Very big room with great view from the bathtub! An excellent private balcony hidden from view. Very good cleaning service with very friendly cleaners - 5 star! Anna was very friendly and described all the stuff very clear. Very good breakfast with good service. Nice welcome drinks. Even there is shisha in the lobby - but we didn’t catch a chance to try it. Multilingual communication: English, Germany and russian. We have strong desire to come back.
The other girl was very friendly on check in, but we were not helped with our luggage upon check-in. I think 5-star hotels should pay attention to this. If road was further away from the hotel, silence would not interfere.

We stayed at a 5-star hotel, but unfortunately, the experience didn’t live up to the rating. Upon arrival, the trash had not been taken out in our room — not acceptable for a hotel of this standard. The carpet was stained in several spots, and the hairdryer was extremely outdated and clearly in need of replacement. Breakfast was modest, with very few options — no sweets and no berry or fruit teas available. The spa was small, and only 3 out of 5 saunas were working. The jacuzzi was functional, and we managed to use it, but no one explained how it works — we had to figure it out ourselves.

The location is ver isolated, you can’t walk from it to anywhere, need a car indeed.
Hotel Retro Riverside is situated in a quiet location on the banks of the dam, away from the busy centre – this is how we present the location as an ideal choice for guests looking for peace, privacy and contact with nature. Regarding the temperature in the room, our hotel does not use classic air conditioning, but a passive cooling system, which allows temperature adjustment within a limited range of approximately ±5 °C. We are aware that this option may not be entirely suitable for all guests, especially during periods of temperature fluctuations. Verified reviewThe room is big, with a balcony, lake view. The breakfast was great with different options from menu. The hotel is located far from the center, if you want to avoid the crowds. However you can easily reach the center 15-20min by car, taxi is available. The temperature was low, so I didn't have chance to enjoy the location. In spa there are different masseuses, and only one was good in my opinion. Nice sauna area. A special thanks to Helena, who helped a lot with our issues.
I didn't like the food for the dinner in the restaurant at all, nothing was tasty. However the hotel is in secluded location, lake front, near the lake it is a road, and road noise wasn't allow to relax completely.

Verified reviewFriendly staff, especially Anna, good breakfast, large room, 2-sink bathroom with pocket-door separated toilet, good shower, all super clean, large bed, comfortable pillows, balcony with 2 chairs facing waterfront, excellent pool, whirlpool and sauna, NOT busy at all, umbrella to borrow for the day, proximity to Karlovy Vary, We would not hesitate to come back!
Thermostat regulation +/-5C was ineffective and could not be reset. We had to open the window and balcony door overnight as it was not possible to go below 24C otherwise.(mid-May, at avg 15C outside) Balcony shared with adjacent room ... strangers from the adjacent room passing (unintentionally I would hope) next our open balcony door - that was NOT so great. The glass shower door would not fully close resulting in mini-floods on the bathroom floor. There was no bottle opener, no beer opener (although the minibar had a bottle that would require one - a friendly receptionist came up immediately in response to my phone query to open our wine bottle himself but thought this was the only solution to the problem of openers that sometimes end up becoming guest's souvenires!?), Wifi stopped working at one point but since I had 60G data SIM this was no problem for me. LED lights inside the wardrobes were flaky, flickering at times. Providing disposable cheap bottle openers with effective Axxos advertising would more than offset the cost of occasional opener loss in my opinion. Some of the 5 saunas were not operational but 2 were really good. These are mostly details, the positives far outweigh the negatives

As for the balcony, you were accommodated in the connected rooms 204 and 205, which also share a connected balcony — a feature designed primarily for families or guests traveling together. We understand that this can feel less private when the rooms are occupied separately, and we’re reviewing options to improve guest comfort in such cases. Thank you also for your notes on the shower door, lighting, and bottle opener. Your suggestion about branded disposable openers is a great one, and we’re actively considering it to improve convenience for future guests.
