How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewVery secure with huge private garden and hiking trails. directly on our terrace (no.17) a big nose bear familiy (about 10) visited us in the morning. Great!! we had free firewood for the oven (yes, it can be cold in Monteverde...). Really good and save stay there!

Verified reviewPerfect set up for 3 couples. We had the possibilty to cook basic food...but there are SO many excellent restaurants witin easy walking distance, being there on holiday there is no question as to what works best. But if needed there is a good supermarket, also within easy walking distance. We also followed advice from reception who organised a night walk for us. This is well worth it! We saw SO much and the guide was SO enthusistic. Cafe Ancestros coffee and night tour. I thoroughly recommend Los Pinos.

Verified reviewThe location was perfect, not right in town but very close to supermarket, restaurants and the monteverde cloud forest reserve and Curi Cancha. The cabins were spotless, comfy beds, spacious, well laid out. Very hot water in the shower. The staff were extremely helpful and knowledgeable about facilities and attractions nearby. Lots of birds near the cabins and a couple of nice short trails attached to the property.
Nothing :)

Verified reviewLoved all the birds and wildlife here and also the short trails. Cabin was great - updated, clean & big. Staff was great!
When the emergency lights came on in my room in the middle of the night because the electricity went off. However, I realize that this was necessary as they put me in the physically challenged cabin.

Verified reviewThe cabaña was spacious and the kitchen was well equipped. It was nice to have the option to lit the fireplace. The hotel has a big territory with 3 hiking trails in the forest that were well maintained. There was a supermarket and several restaurants in 5 min walking distance.
We were there at the beginning of July and it was a bit chilly in the house. It would be nice to have a heater.

Verified reviewNothing. I did not stay here.
The area is poorly lit at night and very isolated. There is no staff on-site during the night. The receptionist told it was “pretty safe,” walking at night (which is necessary, as Los Pinos does not have a restaurant). I did not feel comfortable as a woman traveling alone. I also would not recommend this place for anyone traveling without a car. The receptionist became hostile when I asked to cancel my second night, and said she would “lose her job” if she asked her boss for a cancellation request. She said it happens all the time that someone arrives and then wants to cancel (again, this is not reassuring). The cabins were very nice and I’m sure that families with a car would enjoying staying here. But it is not appropriate good place for solo travelers, and the receptionist was unprofessional- and sounds like she lives in fear of the owners, who do not live on site. All in all a weird situation. I am now going through my bank to reverse the charges as I only spent ten minutes in the property.
Dear Ariel, Thank you for taking the time to leave your review. We’re truly sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations. At Los Pinos, we take the safety and peace of our guests very seriously. Our reception operates from 6:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. every day, and outside of those hours, there is always a member of the owner’s family living on-site, as well . We also have a gated entrance to the property with security cameras to ensure the privacy and safety of all guests. At no point is the property unattended. We understand that traveling alone comes with its own considerations, and we always encourage guests to review our location and setting beforehand, as we are nestled in a quiet forest reserve, ideal for those seeking nature and privacy. Regarding your request to cancel, we accepted the cancellation without issue. However, since your reservation was never charged, we were unable to process a refund that did not exist. We regret that this led to a misunderstanding. We also want to clarify that our receptionist acted respectfully and in accordance with our policies. In fact, she was personally affected by the way the situation unfolded. Most of our guests arrive happy and leave even more pleased with their stay. We are sorry that was not your case, but we respectfully disagree with the way our team and property were portrayed. We wish you all the best in your future travels. Warm regards, Brandon Ramirez Arguedas -General Manager

The trails are beautiful with a great viewing platform overlooking the valley. It was spacious and comfortable with good amenities . The people who work here are very helpful and friendly.

Verified reviewOur second stay here, with son, daughter in law and granddaughter. Separate bungalows close together in a beautiful setting were perfect.
Just one random incident: a swarm of termites in our outside shelter came in under the door. We took shelter in our son’s bungalow, but the termites were everywhere and a mess to clean up. The door should have a door sweep to prevent this.

Verified reviewPictures of the cabins are not representing how amazing this place is! We stayed a couple of nights and wished we had more time. The cabin itself is very comfortable with everything you need to cook nice meals and enjoy them on the patio. We truly felt like we were living in the rainforest for a few days - we've seen beautiful butterflies, birds and even had the visit of a couple coatis.
Can't really think of anything
