Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyWe felt that the hotel was more about appearances. The breakfast was by far the worst of our two and a half weeks in Costa Rica, no juice, no milk, no eggs, no gallo pinto. The smell in our room was a bit unpleasant and we found a cockroach in our bathroom. Even the much-praised Escalante area didn't really convince us.
The hotel and rooms are pretty stylish. The reception area is beautifully designed and the courtyard is really cute. There is a good supermarket right next door. The staff was very friendly.

United StatesThe walls are pretty thin so hopefully you don't have loud neighbors. Not a con really, but no A/C, no screens, which is normal in smaller places in CR. Just know what you're booking.
The back patio courtyard is very nice, lush, and quiet. This is a big plus in the city. I loved having a garden view when in the room. The location is right where you want to be to enjoy Escalante's restaurants. You can walk into the downtown center if you want too, to enjoy the central market and some museums. The staff were super nice. I spent several days there.

United StatesWe had a bungalow, very cute but no hot water and no soap. After asking the front desk person for help, he mentioned that we had to wait about 5mins for hot water to run, we waited and it did end up working. We are not picky so it wasn't a big deal but it was a little inconvenient.
Excellent location super close to tons of restaurants and coffee shops! The hotel has a very cute little patio and the staff was great! I'd stay here again!

United StatesVery poorly insulated and noisy. I think the walls are very thin or it’s a material that is not noise canceling. I could hear people talking outside my room all night and could not sleep because of the noise.
Súper kind staff. Very nice and helpful.

IrelandThe breakfast is beyond basic with virtually no variety - I skipped breakfast and just got food elsewhere nearby.
I stayed twice in 2 different rooms, and both times I had plenty of space and the beds were surprisingly comfy. The little garden is also beautiful to sit out in, and the accommodation is inside a gated area so it feels safe and secluded. It's also located in probably the nicest part of San José, with plenty of restaurants and cafés and a supermarket conveniently on the corner.

United StatesThere was an issue with the toilet in my room that didn't get fixed.
I absolutely loved the Hostel Finca Escalante. The building was so beautiful. It reminded me of an old time Spanish mansion. It felt less like a hostel and more like a b&b. I loved having breakfast in the two courtyards. Every morning was quiet, tranquil and scenic. Hot coffee was always available, as well as fresh fruit, pancakes or toast. All of the staff was amazing and kind. They made sure that me and my family were comfortable. The location was incredible. The neighborhood was safe and full of delicious, trendy restaurants in walking distance. After touring through other parts of San Jose, it was nice to have a less busy, but convenient place to return to. My room was stunning. Although they were in the midst of remodeling, the entire place had a sort of cozy/upscale vibe. I would stay here again and again.

Canada... It's still being renovated so there was some unfinished elements but very clean and quiet.
*upgraded to the presidential suite. A large room with huge balcony was located on the second floor. The massive walk in shower and room was appointed well and very comfortable. The large .nature trees and central garden made this an oasis in the city. We loved the location within seconds of 100's of fun and tasty restaurants

United StatesUpon my arrival my room door was open and awaiting for my requested early arrival, however, I arrived later than planned and I think that someone had the opportunity to use my bathroom before me and I could not rid the order or small reminiscence that they left in the toilet. The shower drainage was an issue as the water backed up to near my ankle. However, I did not report either incident to the staff being that it would have changed the energy that was going so great in service and all other expectations. It would have been nice to have a fan to help keep one cool and fight off mosquitos which have access from the open window.
The Location for walking to stores and many bars and restaurants is awesome! As a single female out at night....I felt very safe and secure.

BelgiumThe matras was a little too hard for my taste and it took me some time to find a good temperature for the shower because the water was changing fast between freezing cold and boiling hot. And pay attention to ants in the garden! The bite and it gets super itchy
The staff was very nice and helpful. The place is super pretty with a nice little garden to have breakfast, relax and enjoy. They serve breakfast from 7 to 9am. It's usually pancakes, bread, muesli, fruits, peanut butter and jam. There is usually tea, coffee and water available all day long. I stayed in a shared room of 6. The room is spacious, each bed has its own curtains and two sockets. There are also lockers that you can close with a padlock to leave your luggage safe and secure when you're away. The place is very clean and they change your towel every day. The hostel is locked in a very nice part of the city, surrounded by plenty of nice bars, cafés and restaurants. It is an easy 20-30min walk to the Mercado Central and the city center.

Costa RicaI guess the idea of a open bathroom is not so convenient. It looks nice but at the end you need some privacy though. Also, it'd be better if they offer some extra options for breakfast such as orange juice and scrambled eggs, for example.

United KingdomWould be great if there is a fan. it was a slightly stuffy and we opened the window overnight, ended up my friend got bite the mosquitoes whole night. Maybe a good idea to install a mosquitoes net at the windows, so guest can open the windows during night time.
We booked a twin room, it was great, initially we thought we got a double bedroom and the toilet it located next the bed. Fortunately it's a twining room and the setup was great for us. Everything is cleaned and good breakfast. The staff was great and he welcomed us with a big smiled, he was very helpful too.
