Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomNothing - we loved everything.
We loved everything! Estabano and Yuri were the perfect hosts, nothing was too much trouble. They were extremely knowledgeable on the local plant and animal life - we learnt so much! They took us on a local sugar cane tour, a hike to see a local waterfall, to see the sunset and so many more trips - they really made us feel like part of the family. The food was phenomenal - some of the best food we have ever had!

Our stay at EYA Ecolodge was very special. The property is located in a rural area accessed via a gravel road (4x4 recommended). We stayed in a comfortable bungalow on Estevan's small Eco farm . We had a comfortable bed, and privately positioned terrace. It was a lovely quiet and peaceful location with a beautiful garden full of colourful birds, including toucans and hummingbirds and many large butterflies. Estevan is very knowledgeable about the area and generously offered his time to show us around, and took us to a lovely fresh waterfall where we could swim We enjoyed fantastic homecooked breakfasts and dinners. Our stay at Eya Ecolodge made a perfect relaxed start to our trip to Costa Rica. The genuine level of welcome and comfort made feel more like we were staying with friends or family. A really authentic stay with no other tourists around. We wished we could have stayed longer and we certainly hope to return.

United StatesA few cautions: The gravel road to EYA is OMG steep up and down, over many km. On the way out in the morning our SUV had trouble climbing a few hills, even in low gear. There are no restaraunts in the area. Judy offered to prepare dinner for us. It turned out to be 2/3 the cost of the room. Surprisingly expensive, and she does not accept credit card. The area is in the cloud forest and dew fall overnight made every surface in our room damp. Zip clothes into suitcases to keep them dry.
Watching and listening to the birds in late afternoon, and the next morning on the front porch. Listening to the bird symphony before sunrise from bed. Wonderful dinner and breakfast served by the host, Judy. Meeting her charming daughter Angie. The little cabin is very comfortable. Shower is hot as long as the pressure is low. This stay deserves more than 5 stars.

Guesthouse EYA was one of our most unique and memorable experiences in Costa Rica. The property is located in a rural community accessible by a gravel road (4x4 highly recommended). Juri and Estevan run a small sustainable farm and offer a cabin with a comfortable bed, private bathroom and terrace. They also offer a variety of tours in the area and on the farm itself. We booked the chocolate tour, which was fascinating and very engaging. Estevan is very knowledgeable about the local flora and fauna and is also a great wine/chocolate maker. We also enjoyed fantastic breakfasts, lunches and dinners. We would highly recomm end Eya if your looking for a comfortable bed in the Garden of Eden off the beaten track. Thank you Estavan and Yuri for a wonderful experience!

NetherlandsNothing, highly recommend this place.
This place is outstanding. The owners of the place are very nice and helpful. The food made by owner Yuri is amazing, we highly recommend to just eat all your meals here, we are spoiled for the rest of our trip in Costa Rica. The surroundings are breathtaking, and the tour by owner Estaban is very interesting, he knows a lot about the place, the animals, and all the trees he grew there. It's all very peaceful and a good start of our round-trip in this beautiful country.

SpainWish I had booked for longer.
The owners are lovely generous people. Esteban knows about birds and took me to some nearby places that were alive with many varieties of small colourful birds such as tanagers. The large garden has been lovingly planted with a variety of trees which are labelled, and is visited by toucans and beautiful butterflies. At the bottom of the garden is a fast flowing mountain river. Food was copious, healthy and presented in an artistic way similar to a Michelin starred restaurant . Unexpected! My bedroom was a small, independent building away from the main house, with a shaded terrace from which I could photo hummingbirds and butterflies. I saw no other tourist during my 4 days here.

BelgiumThe matras was good, but the size a little bit to small for large People.
It was like paradise! The food was like a **** star restaurant, biological, regional produced and daily fresh products. The garden with 65 vareaties of fruittrees (500) was like heaven for bird watching. Swimming in the river magical refreshing. The owners Esteban, Yudi and the little Abi were super friendly and very sympathic.

Esteban and Yuri made us feel very welcome. Their 5-year old daughter is adorable as well. This place shows you the real Costa Rica, no other tourists around. The tranquillity, garden, trail to the river deck, surroundings, terrace, tastefull breakfast and dinner (the empanadas Yuri made are fantastic) and not to forget the birding is amazing. So many different species. The hibiscus wine they produce is also nice to try.

Our stay was unforgettable. The lodge consists of two bungalows and an eating area. These buildings are built with local wood and are very pleasant. The only reason I do not give the highest rating is that the cabins are of a rural nature which may not appeal to some guests. They are situated in a huge garden with exotic trees. The owner, who is an excellent ornithologist took us round the grounds (paid tour) and explained the trees. On a bird tour of around 3 Kilometers along the river he showed us around. 30 different birds which we would not have detected alone. He and his wife were very attentive and helpful. We could choose what we wanted to eat, and were able to try various CostRican foods. The approach to the grounds require a 4x4 vehicle but is not difficult to drive.

Czech RepublicThe place is quite detached from bigger cities, you will have to drive for around 1 hour on the gravel road.
Esteban with his wife are great hosts. We really enjoyed our stay with them. The room and views are very nice. We loved the food. We also went for a trip to local coffee farm owned by Esteban's friend, where we learned about how the coffee is produced in a natural and traditional way. At the end, also the road to this place was ok, we could easily make it with our FWD sedan.
