Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomA lovely light room with great views from the balcony and the benefit of being able to park right outside. We appreciated the good facilities in the room including fresh coffee and a fridge. Great to watch a variety of hummingbirds and other birds by the cafe. Very helpful information when we arrived about local walks and places to visit.

AustraliaExcellent location alongside Savegre Rio in the heart of the bird watching habitat, with personalised, high quality guiding available from a family member (Carlos - excellent). Small, clean, comfortable rooms with duvets to keep out the cold. Very helpful staff. Simple but tasty breakfast prepared for us after our dawn quetzal watching tour was over. Recommend as a good, family run option for independent bird watchers as an alternative to some of the larger properties in the Savegre valley.

AustraliaCabinas et Quetzal only serves breakfast, and the nearest restaurants are 1-2 km away. It wouldn't be a problem if you are there with a car, but if you don't have a car it's difficult - after dinner you either have a longish steep walk in the dark, or you have to organise a driver to give you a ride home. The staff at Cabinas organised this for us, but you have to make a special request to make it happen.
Lovely setting, with the river flowing below our rooms, many birds and excellent hummingbird feeders. Seeing a quetzal fly past us as we sat on our balcony was very nice!

United StatesSome comfortable cushion chairs for sitting inside would’ve been nice. The only place to read at night was to lie in bed or sit up in bed, but that was not very comfortable for long.
Friendly staff, beautiful location with beautiful gardens all around and great birding right on the premises

United StatesWe had a cold wet night and the cabin lacked a heating unit. We used a few of the extra blankets and crawled under the covers.
San Gerardo is magical. Tons of hummingbirds feeding while we ate our breakfast!!! Lots of little excursions to be considered. A day of small little hikes is a huge amount of climbing.

United StatesLittle trash can was overflowing by the second day. A coffee maker was in the room, but no filters were provided until we asked.
The sisters who ran the cabins were very friendly and helpful. Clean, basic cabins in a beautiful setting. We loved the deck with the amazing birds coming to the feeder.

United KingdomNothing.
We had two cabins, one for our teenagers and one for us. Both were wonderfully spacious and comfortable with balconies overlooking the garden and river. It was cold at night but the beds had thick duvets and extra blankets were provided. This is such a beautiful place, with a balcony where they feed the hummingbirds and numerous other birds - you could sit there for hours watching them. The breakfast was delicious. It is owned by a family and they were all super friendly. We recommend getting up early to do the quetzal tour. They have obviously put a lot of effort into making this a fabulous place. We stayed an extra night as we loved it so much.

IsraelI'd love if there was a kitchenette in the room and a pot for tea preparing. Shower hot water weren't very stable. The way down to the river could have been more organised. Reading lights near the bed could have been a nice improvement.
The central bird watching balcony was great and comfortable with beautiful views of birds and river. Very caring and friendly team of workers. The cabin was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was fine

FranceA bit pricy.
Large ptivate cabine close to nature with large balcony facing the mountain. We saw green toucanets from the balcony while having breakfast! Comfortable bed with lots of blankets. Hot water available. Large parking area. No kitchen but tea and coffee machine in the cabine. Don't be too late for check-in as road to get there is a steep and it is not easy to drive at night.

IrelandWe were put in room number 2 which had a poor view of the garden. If you’re interested in seeing birds be sure to request either rooms 3, 4 or 5 - which all have balconies overlooking the garden.
Excellent place to stay if you’re a birder. We saw the famous quetzal bird in the tree behind the property on both the evening and the next morning of our stay.

Canadaas others mentioned, the hot water in the shower was a little tricky to figure out. Once it is turned on, temperature is controlled by the rate of water so you can have a slow hot shower or a fast warm-ish shower
Was not prepared for how beautiful the location was. Hummingbird feeders were lively! Quetzals in the backyard! the lovely seating area by the river! At check-in she shared a plethora of activities nearby.

United KingdomWhilst this isn't a negative comment (this place and people were lovely) a note to people thinking of booking: We have been to the mountains in Costa Rica before, so we had prepared for how cold its gets at night. Socks and warm nightwear a must!
Beautiful cabins set in the hamlet of San Gerardo de Dota that exceeded our expectations. Family run, with excellent English spoken, this place, although off the beaten track and down a very windy road was a wonderful find. The breakfasts were so good with recommendations for places to eat supper readily available. Walks also explained and the botanical garden walk a couple of KM's down the road was pleasurable way to spend a Sunday morning with the binos. The highlight of the trip was to see the resplendent quetzal in the trees outside our room. Just made our stay perfect in every way. Thank you.

Costa RicaWe liked everything existing about the property, but we had picnic supplies with us and there was no place in the valley to buy ice as well as no small fridge in the room to keep things cool. The bed was a bit hard and the room was quite cold at night. We appreciated the provision of extra blankets in the room.
Well located with gorgeous views and the river just behind the cabin, and spotlessly clean.

United KingdomThe hotel does not do dinner - but the highly recommended Soda Dona Marlen is just up the road
The outstanding features of this hotel are the birdlife ( the hotel puts out feeders for both hummingbirds and fruit eaters, and we spent hours on the terrace watching the birds) and the location right beside the beautiful, wild, Savegre river. Our 2 roomed cabin was spacious and comfortable, with a veranda overlooking the river. The previous day our neighbours had seen quetzals in the garden, though we were not so lucky.
