Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomOn our first night the rain was unbelievable. This resulted in our cottage becoming flooded. Brigitte provided us with towels straight away to dry the place out, and it wasn’t a big drama. It would not be a complex task to create better drainage around the cottage, which would prevent this happening again.
What a gem of a place. Cute family cottage (2 separate rooms, a double bed in one and a bunk in the other - single upper and double bed lower). There are numerous sloths in the garden, often active and often at quite low level. Having been on numerous hikes previously on our Costa Rica holiday to see sloths that ended up being just grey fuzzballs high up in a tree that needed a guide’s scope (and experienced eye) to spot, it was a delight to be able to see them just outside our door, usually at a height that didn’t strain the eyes and neck and also meant that a simple phone photo could capture with reasonable success. There was even a mother and baby - cuteness personified, which we were able to observe whilst enjoying the famous and delicious Brigitte’s Ranch breakfast. The beach is a spit away - strong currents, so be careful. It isn’t a huge beach and not very wide, but it is fine. And about 15 min walk to the north is Playa Grande which is empty and stretches for miles. The reggae bar is next door - we enjoyed the Caribbean vibes and enjoyed a couple of drinks there. It doesn’t come highly recommended for food, but there are many other good eateries within walking distance - La Playa was particularly good for coffee, ice creams and a snacky bite. And Puerto Viejo is a short drive away, which also has many restaurants and a more lively night culture than Cahuita. Brigitte offers various tours - eg night tour, chocolate tour, medicinal plants etc. But we had already done much of that stuff on our trip. We did go for the horse riding tour - the 3rd one we have done on our trip, and far and away the best. Her horses are clearly well cared for, great to ride, respond to the rider well, and the 2.5 hour hack through the jungle and cantering over the beach sands was simply magical - in spite of the incessant rain. Great for more experienced riders. If you are limited for time in Costa Rica, then you can get such a rich experience staying at Brigitte’s Ranch.

United StatesCahuita was a small coastal town with a friendly vibe. Brigitte and her stuff were amazing and wonderfully nice. We took full advantage of the included breakfast each morning of our stay. It was delicious and very filling, a great way to start a day full of adventures. Proximity to the beach was also amazing. Just outside the gate to the property you can see the beach, and a short 2 minute walk puts you on the beach. We also participated in several of the tour options Brigitte and her stuff offer. My daughter enjoyed the horse back riding most of all.

GermanyI was satisfied with everything, but i guess it is Important, If you travel without a car, It takes 25-30 minutes by foot to get there.
Would have loved to stayed a bit longer. The Patio/Veranda Situation was perfecto para mi. The hammocks were clean, and did not smell like sweat and other travelers feet. You could hear the waves breaking, which i absolutely loved. I really needed chilling, so this was the perfect place for me. The desayuno was really tasty. If you are looking carefully, you can see a lot of animals in front of your cabina. I saw some of the Green/black frogs, a lot of nagutis and even more Geckos, Butterflies and 3 sloaths in the trees <3. Also the dogs on the premise are really nice and sort of caring, i had the feeling, they just checked in with me from time to time. The Cats were also really cosy and one of them accompanied me in the hammocks on an evening read. Overall really comforting, for me was the perfect start into my Journey. Also a big plus: the beach is so close, you can fetch your morning coffee and then just go across and enjoy it while watching the waves.

United StatesIf you stay on the weekends, you’re run the risk of the reggae bar next-door, playing their music really loud pretty much all night. They don’t do that on the weekdays. And it’s nothing in Brigitte’s control. Also mosquitoes but it’s silly to blame a hotel for the existence of bugs. But if you’re opposed to them, find a more expensive place. This is a chill, rustic place and with that comes some bugs.
Our favorite part was the animals (dogs, cats, lizards, hummingbirds, sloths, frogs, iguana, coati!) The cabin was sufficient for what we needed. The breakfast was so cute and tasted yummy. The staff was very friendly and responsive. Super close to the beach and lots of food choices. Easy walk to some good fun.

NetherlandsIt was a pleasure to stay at Brigitte's Ranch. The people working there love to show you the sloths and colourfull frogs at te terrain. You can walk to the Reggae bar in a minute to grab a beer and there are hammocks at the accomodation. We also did the Night Tour by Brigitte's, which we really reccommend! You will see plenty of frogs, snakes, beautifull insects and mammals.

CanadaVery minor… I wasn’t aware that the restaurant and the cabin were not on the same property. Since we had a car, though, this was not a problem, but perhaps this could be a little clearer on the Booking.com listing.
Big breakfasts that are fantastic, with delicious coffee. The cabins were beautiful, with comfy beds and fluffy towels. We had better bird & animal watching from the cabin porch than we did on our ecotour in Arenal! And we saw sloths and poison dart frogs just hanging around the breakfast location. The hot tub seemed like an odd touch at first, but filled with cool water it was a great way to get refreshed. We loved our stay!
