How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewSuper friendly staff that go the extra mile! Very cosy place
The pictures on booking.com do not give an accurate reflection of reality. There is a building constructed right in front of the building of The Gigglng tree which takes away 50% of the view. We love the place for the people but the expectations where managed differently. Also cleaning could be much more profound!
Dear bjorn, Thank you for choosing Giggling Tree and sharing your detailed feedback! We are very glad to hear your recognition of our team's service - your satisfaction has always been our greatest motivation. We sincerely apologize for the issue of visual obstruction you mentioned. The new building is part of the surrounding development project and does indeed affect some of the landscape. We have updated the real scene photos on our official website and will optimize the guest experience through other means, such as upgrading the terrace. Your opinions on the cleaning and management methods have also been conveyed to the team. We will enhance training and detailed checks to ensure subsequent improvements. Your feedback is of vital importance to us. We sincerely hope to have the opportunity to welcome you again in the future and present you with a more perfect stay experience! Best regards Alice

Verified reviewThe most stunning place you can stay in Yangshuo. Surrounded by the famous mountains, the converted barns are made into cosy rooms/dining areas and the terrace is as charming as it is beautiful. We stayed in the newer part in a 2 bedroom suite which comfortably slept my whole family (2 adults, 3 kids). We had stunning views from almost every window. The beds are very comfortable and the Aircon was very cold (much needed in July). What really makes this hotel special are the staff. Everyone is so friendly, hard working and happy to help. You can book almost everything through them. Most of the staff speak excellent English. Their menu is extensive and in the 5 days we stayed there, we had almost all our meals there and every dish was delicious. Honestly, the few meals we had outside didn’t compare to the quality of the hotel’s. Thank you to all the staff at The Giggling Tree. What an amazing place run by wonderful people.
Absolutely nothing. A solid 10/10 experience. We are a well travelled family and this stay is up there with the best.
Dear May, Thank you so much for taking the time to share your heartwarming review! We’re absolutely thrilled to hear that your stay at The Giggling Tree was such a memorable experience for your family. The comfort of your suite, and the views that surrounded you, there’s nothing quite like waking up to those karst mountains! Our team takes great pride in creating a welcoming atmosphere, and your kind words about their friendliness and service mean the world to us. We’ll be sure to pass along your compliments to everyone—they’ll be so encouraged! We're also delighted that you enjoyed our meals so much; our chefs strive to use fresh, local ingredients to craft dishes that feel like a taste of home (but with a Yangshuo taste). It was a true pleasure hosting your family, and we’d be over the moon to welcome you back someday. Until then, wishing you many more happy tours! Best regards, The Giggling Tree Team

Verified reviewThe staff at the Giggling Tree are great. They make the place so good. Always proactive, accommodating and willing to help. Great facilities nearby for biking, climbing, kayaking etc. and the team will book and arrange these at decent prices. Food is good/OK. Perhaps better for kids than adults. The hotel was recommended to me by 2 sets of friends and I will do the same for any families visiting

Verified reviewThe Giggling Tree was just perfect! It is an amazing hotel - friendly and welcoming, lovely room with amazing views, wonderful staff and restaurant. Laura was simply brilliant and made some great food recommendations. Eating in the quaint courtyard restaurant area was perfect, especially the Beer fish from the Lijiang River! Great dumplings too! And the pool was a nice bonus with fantastic views. Good bicycles to rent and trips/taxis can be organised. We'd love to return again one day - the scenery is simply unforgettable! Thank you Laura! Verified reviewThe staff were incredible, super helpful with organising activities and transport and really lovely people. We stayed in the 2 bedroom on the 4th floor, it has really good views and each bedroom was large with a huge bed. There's also a rooftop hangout area available for guests, with gorgeous views and outdoor seating. The restaurant was great, they let us BYO wine, even kept it in the fridge for us and provided glasses. There are bikes to hire (cheap), a pool and the riverside area for biking or walking is close by.
The shared bathroom in the two bedroom room has 2 windows into one of the bedrooms but the windows don't have proper coverings so you can see in (and out). This means it is not really private when using the bathroom or for the people in that bedroom. The other bedroom only has a paper and thin wood door so isn't soundproof at all. Note that the 2 bedroom option has only the 2 bedrooms, no shared indoor living space, although a balcony is available accessible via one of the bedrooms. There isn't anywhere to hang wet towels to reuse, they changed them daily though.
