Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

New ZealandNot the friendliest staff, which set the tone a bit. No ceramic cups in the room either—just two small paper ones, which felt a bit stingy. The aircon remote was also a hassle, as it didn’t seem to work properly. Kettle worked but broken
Great location. Close to metro, the bund and many good little food outlets.

Very friendly and helpful staff. I stayed in a private room and it had everything one needs for a great stay. Excellent location near Nanjing East Road with many restaurants are nearby. Elevator is in the building and luggage can be stored at the reception.

United KingdomIt's quite outdated and could be better looked after. Photos look better than what they actually is. During a couple of days, I heard people screaming/ arguing for quite a while in the rooms nearby - very weird.
Location location location! Very spacious room with two air conditioners, fridge, kettle, free toiletries, water bottles and tea. The bed was extremely comfortable. Quite clean.

AustraliaPrior to heading to China I called up this hotel to confirm some details and started by asking if they spoke English (I asked in Chinese as I have some capacity to speak conversational Mando) and the guy at reception said “no” and abruptly hung up… which was strange. I must say, I was a bit worried that this would not be a good place to stay based on this interaction. - But it turned out fine! The staff were great and went above and beyond to help us with our needs!
Great spot! We booked it because if it’s proximity to the metro, but the place itself was great!

United Arab EmiratesIt takes us time to find the location even if it’s near the subway because the pin location in google maps was confusing , and the reason is the hotel was inside and not in the main road
It was a superb stay, Perfect location. 2-3mins only from subway metro - nanjing road east station exit 6 which is direct from airport, very near to tourists spot. walking distance to the bund. All staff was so helpful and friendly, they are always smiling that gives more stay comfortable. Clean room with everything you need , all toiletries are there.

United KingdomWould definitely recommend staying at the Fish Inn when visiting Shanghai. It is in a great location, with a quick walk to the bund and other attractions, however it feels super quiet during the evening. The staff are very friendly and accommodating and the room was very spacious and comfortable.

ThailandNot that I don't like but the bathroom has glass wall with curtains outside. Might be weird if I come with a friend for a family member.
Location, walkable to The Bund attractions. The hotel itself may be in a small alley, not so fancy. But it has good access to everything. Staff at the reception is very helpful and can communicate well in English. They have a cute fat cat in the lobby. Good value for money.

United KingdomMy arrival was a bad experience. I arrived late night. The entrance of the hotel is in a busy 'storage' court ward, which did not match the online pictures. After seeing the place from my window in the morning, I understood that the place was safe and even a nice cultural experience of the 'real china' and quite liked it. The other problem was that the hotel card machine was not working at night, so the receptionist wanted me to walk with him at 1:00 am to a ATM to pay my stay upfront in cash instead. I was frightened that the receptionist was about to con me. Very bad moment. I ended up paying with Wechat pay, so he could let me in my room. As the card machine problem was definitely not my fault, I expected that the receptionist would let me in the room and get the payment sorted next morning. Tip for traveller: In a trip to China, have in mind that Alipay and Wechatpay are a must, and have to be setup before your trip.
Location is perfect. Few minutes walk from metro line that goes direct to airport. Few minutes walk to main landmarks. The hotel is very simple, but has all you need to have a comfortable stay.
