How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewWill and the rest of the staff were absolutely fantastic. Friendliest staff members of any hostel I have ever been to, and I have travelled a lot. They go out of their way to help. Incredible rooftop and great views of a spectacular city. The daily bread that the staff make is an added bonus. Rooms and toilets are always clean. The cafe that is also owned by Will serves delicious coffee. I’m Australian, so trust me when I say that. It might seem like Will paid me to write this, but the truth is, I just loved this place so much I stayed for 11 nights. Longest I’ve ever stayed in a place before. Convenient location as well, close to many great spots in the city. Couldn’t recommend it any more for budget travellers. I’ll definitely be back at some point to have a hotpot.
Wow, this review made our whole team tear up a little (we almost quit to go travel ourselves). Will even considered opening a bakery after reading it — don’t worry, the hostel is still our main gig! We’re seriously honored that a well-traveled Aussie like yourself chose to stay 11 nights — the longest you’ve ever stayed anywhere! That means a lot. And coming from an Australian, the coffee compliment hits especially deep — we might frame that part on the wall. 😄 Thanks for loving the rooftop, the bread, the views, the cleanliness — and even the toilets (we’re secretly proud of those too). We’ll keep doing our best to stay friendly, helpful, and just a little too enthusiastic until the day you return for that hotpot. Verified reviewOnly cafe hostel - this hostel is great. The dorms are simple and quite small but the beds are really comfy and the the place is super clean. Staff are really friendly and warm too. Rooftop and balcony offer awesome views of this epic city. Loads of great recommendations and info in the hostel guidebook too. Xiexie guys.

But the highlight was the incredibly friendly and helpful staff: Chongqing locals ready to help you plan your visit, from sightseeing to dining. A big bonus is the outstanding coffee at Only Cafe, truly among the best I’ve ever had.

Verified reviewAmazing hospitality from the owners etc. They go the extra mile by free snacks, toiletries and a coffee voucher. They also published a book about activities in the area. Met other travelers here and had late night chats in the common area. The vibe is friendly, welcoming, amazing! Loved it, didn't want to leave.
I think changing the bin bags in the ladies dorms and bathrooms more than once a day, would ensure even better hygiene.

Verified reviewLoved the staff and location. Also common areas are nice. Amazing view! Also free water, tea, bread and icecreams. They also have a little coffee place just around the corner. Follow the signs as per pictures to get to the hostel. Google maps is wrong. It is on the right side of a big building with a hotpot place.
The beds were very squeaky and the mattresses a bit thin for my taste

They’ve put together an incredibly useful and detailed booked of restaurant and sightseeing recommendations, what to order, the restaurants specialty etc. Awesome balcony and rooftop with great views. Almost entirely foreigners so it’s very easy to meet people, relative to other hostels in China. Great common area. Free tea, homemade bread, and ice cream bars. In my top 5 best hostels ever.
Some drain flies in the shower.

We were met by the owner who gave us an extensive tour and following a message I had previously sent asking for recommendations, he sat us down and went though all the things we could do in the city in the time that we had. He remembered my message without me mentioning it and gave brilliant advice. Clean, great views from root top terrace and kitchen with fresh bread, tea and coffee for free. Dorm room was snug but had everything we needed including lockers. Would highly recommend.

Verified reviewWhat an amazing place to stay! The staff are so helpful and friendly and advise on best places to eat/see. The location is great as well and near a metro station. Free bread, water, tea, coffee and ice cream! The social area upstairs was a great place (incl. massage chair) to meet other travellers. The facilities are simple but clean and I highly recommend staying here!

Verified reviewVery clean, social hostel with a kitchen, rooftop with amazing views and helpful english speaking staff. It is right in the city centre and has a written guide with plenty of information about what you'd probably want to see.
It's a bit difficult to find for the first time. Go to the right side of the building and take the left lift to the 31st floor. You'll find the sign on the first door.
