How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

All the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. Great Western breakfast as well. Location is in the centre of Pudong near all the wonderful attractions.
The toilet in the room was leaking. We reported it, but the problem was not resolved. Otherwise exceptional service

Verified reviewGreat rooms and location, right across the Shanghai tower, jinmao tower and IFC, about 5-6 malls around the hotel and very easy to access. There is an overhead bridge walk till the superbrand mall, MAP museum and the bund area which takes about 15 minutes. The jacuzzi is good, staff was polite and good, we had the free afternoon tea included from 2:30-4:30 which was great as well especially because the quality of food was really good and at par for a real 5 star! Breakfast was really good with a lot of choices and made quite well. We had the view of the TV tower from our window and the 3 tall buildings which was great. The mattress and pillows were amazing, so we had really good sleep and we had everything provided to us from toothbrush to bath salts. I would argue that this hotel has the best slippers we've had thus far, minor but useful plus point. Leo helped us with our bags, arranging taxis and was overall very nice to us!
Nothing honestly but few points to mention: 1. No slippers allowed in breakfast or afternoon tea so we had to go up and change, which is understandable and fair. 2. The bathroom lock and auto blinds on the window malfunctioned but was a quick fix, so again not an issue. 3. Movie selection on the TV was limited and we couldn't get the HDMI to work, but we didn't really miss that either.

Verified reviewWonderful stay at Regent Shanghai! Huge thanks to the front desk team, especially the Loyalty Acting Manager for helping us with domestic flight check-in. Our room on the 33rd floor had an amazing city view. Beds were extra large and super comfortable. Loved the clean and relaxing pool with refreshing drinks. Great service, great comfort — highly recommend!

Room was a bit tired. Some furniture had scratches and stool in the bathroom was falling apart. There were visible marks on the sealing in the bathroom after some leak from floor above.

Verified reviewWe had an absolutely fantastic experience at Regent Pudong—far exceeding our expectations. We had access to the Club, where Afternoon Tea and Happy Hour were served daily, and it was well worth it: the food was excellent, and the views were stunning. The pool on the 41st floor was simply breathtaking—a perfect spot to relax and take in the city lights at night. The location was also ideal, just a five-minute walk from Line 2 and right in the heart of the Pudong area.

Verified reviewThis is the second time I’ve stayed in this hotel; both times to celebrate the anniversary with my girlfriend. I informed the staff about the occasion after the booking so that we could have a little decoration in the room. I booked a room with view on the Pearl Tower, but we received a free upgrade to a suite with an amazing view on the the Pearl Tower and the river, and we were offered an additional bottle of wine and some cake! The staff was amazing; and the pool with the view on Lujiazui alone is worth the price. Excellent and rich breakfast. Honestly, could not ask for more! I wish to thank once again the staff for helping making this (again) an unforgettable night! Simply perfect
